A&E’s hit show “Duck Dynasty” returned Wednesday with a bang — no pun intended. The season three premiere was watched by 8.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched episode ever and A&E’s most watched telecast of all-time.
Wednesday’s “Duck Dynasty” episode is also now the biggest reality show telecast so far in 2013, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Dynasty had a 4.0 rating among adults 18-49, just barely edging out Fox’s American Idol and ABC’s Modern Family (both 3.9) in the nationals and winning the night,” EW.com reports.
The pro-hunting reality show, which follows a Louisiana family with a business selling duck hunting products, continues to enjoy massive success. The season three premiere was up 132 percent from the last season premiere. Now that’s progress.
It most likely helped ratings for the show when singer and animal rights activist cancelled his appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” because the “Duck Dynasty” cast members were scheduled to be on the show. He said he couldn’t bare to be on the same show as them because they are people who “amount to serial killers.”

Mar. 1, 2013 at 3:17pmBeen watching since the start. Favorite was “Career Day” and on same episode “Frog Hunt.” A close second was the building of the duck blind by the scariest people on earth: “Rick Rednecks.” Love the fact the the closing every show is the family at the dinner table saying grace!

Mar. 1, 2013 at 11:15amThis show is so refreshing. I don’t remember hearing even one “bleep”, as opposed to every other reality TV show filled with potty mouthed idiots.
It’s easy to say Si is the favorite, but all of the characters are precious. Miss Kate is wonderful, and Willy’s kids are beautiful. Can’t say enough about how much we chuckle and enjoy these sweet people.
We were out to dinner with our inlaws, and the thirty something nephew and his wife reminded us that we all had to get home to see Duck Dynasty.
Thank you SO much, Duck Commanders!!

Mar. 1, 2013 at 9:02amFor all the ones that don’t watch the show, you don’t really understand what it is all about. The show is about a family that pulled themselves up the old fashion way, by hard work and good work ethics. They don’t screw people over, they work and have fun doing it. They are moral God fearing people, the way the country used to be. Phil tries to instill in his grandchildren that the great outdoors is where it’s at. He wants them to get away from the video games and get outside and enjoy nature. And who cares if some of the show is scripted, it has good moral values. Our politicians need to watch this show and see what the real world should be, and get away from the crap in Washington. This family takes care of each other, just the way the politicians should take care of this country. Quit looking out for their political ambitions and look toward the ambitions of this great county. God Bless America!

Mar. 1, 2013 at 12:58amThat idiot singer cancelling his apperence had nothing to do with the ratings – I didn’t even know who he was until he opened his trap – its a great show plain and simple. I have been watching it since it came on the air and it is the best show on tv to watch with your entire family – no made up drama, no profanity, no BS – they may have money, but from everything I have seen about them they are as down to earth as I am – they appeal to normal America because they ARE normal America – not the stupidity that is forced on us on most tv channels and from D.C.. A&E keep this show on no matter what!!!!

Mar. 1, 2013 at 1:51amActually – I think reality tv is far from any type of reality. Those signs were probably the idea of the producer. These days most producers “create” the storyline, whether it is comical, serious, drama or other.
Reality TV is not reality.

Mar. 1, 2013 at 8:35amThanks for pointing out the obvious, Liber. We are all quite aware that “Reality TV” simply means they are not professional actors and the dialog is not from memorized scripts, even though they may very well memorize some punch line to be delivered at some appointed time, and the producers may suggest they go on an otherwise-unplanned frog hunt, or play some agreed-upon prank for a particular episode. We get it. Thanks.

I LOL every episode, and where else can you see a family sit down for dinner and say a prayer at the end of each show. Warms my heart.

Mar. 1, 2013 at 12:09amOle Phil use to be quite the football player too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robertson at Louisiana Tech (Courtesy of the Robertson family)Who cares about the Super Bowl when it’s duck-hunting season?
That’s what “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson believes. He turned down a chance to play in the NFL to pursue his real passion: hunting. That later led to the formation of his business selling duck calls and other gear, which in turn led to his family being spotlighted on the A&E reality series.
Back in the late ’60s, Robertson was a quarterback at Louisiana Tech, starting ahead of a guy named Terry Bradshaw — who would later become a Hall of Famer with four Super Bowl rings.
As detailed in Sports Illustrated, Robertson turned down an offer from the Washington Redskins his junior year to concentrate on duck hunting
Mar. 1, 2013 at 1:46amThere are shows that make people look worse….House Hunters make people look materialistic and wasteful, Hoarders make people seem hopeless, then there are greedy or trashy shows like the Kardashians, Real World, Jersey Shore, Jerry Springer etc.
Duck Dynasty and some other logging or swamp shows are rather wholesome and entertaining.
All reality shows are somewhat scripted.
These are the things that make other countries think we’re stupid. Not that I and many others give a damn what other countries think of us. That and kissing our enemies asses. Not TV shows about real people in America doing real stuff like hunting, parenting, praying and blowing up things for fun…not to kill people. This show is not for liberal, yankee, no sense of humor, no sense of any kind, yuppies.
Feb. 28, 2013 at 10:37pmOk, this stuff is what gives conservatives such a bad name. We need to get away from hick duck hunters. Our party is in danger of becoming extinct and lauding this crazy show is NOT helping. Feb. 28, 2013 at 11:46pm“We need to get away from hick duck hunters.”
Wow, you truly are clueless. “Hick duck hunters”?? That’s the language of a leftist.
Let me explain this to you clearly. Culture is upstream of politics. The reason politics is a cesspool, is because the culture is a cesspool. The only way a crazy politician gets elected is because the culture has first paved the way. The only reason a crazy political idea gets implemented into law, is because the culture has layed the groundwork. IT’S ALL ABOUT CULTURE! And we’re losing the cultural war….badly.
Watch the TV today, and 99% of programming comes from a leftist worldview. No wonder Obama gets elected. A show like Duck Dynasty is a small, but important wedge in the culture. It presents a hard-working, God-fearing, conservative family who went from extreme poverty to wealth, and they showcase their family without vulgarity, cussing, nudity…you know, the hallmarks of the immoral Left.
We need less conservative think-tanks, we need less political action committees. What we need is more conservative movie studios, more conservative television, more Duck Dynasties! Win the culture war, you win the political war! Wake up!
