Actor Clint Eastwood has joined more than 100 prominent Republicans in calling for same-sex couples to be allowed to legally marry, just months after his prominent appearance at the Republican National Convention.
American Foundation for Equal Rights spokesman Manny Rivera confirmed to TheBlaze that Eastwood signed on to the amicus brief to the Supreme Court, which is hearing a challenge to California’s Proposition 8 ban on gay marriage. Word that Eastwood had signed was first reported by Breitbart News.
Rivera told TheBlaze the brief was expected to be submitted to the Supreme Court Thursday afternoon.
Other signatories include former Republican presidential candidate and Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman and former California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, who supported Prop. 8 when she ran.
Editor’s note: This post has been updated to reflect that more than 100 Republicans have signed the brief.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 7:40pmLet us draw a line in the sand. Everyone who is against gay marriage and is willing to stand up for morality come on this side and everyone who is for gay marriage go over there with SE Cupp, Clint, the libertarians, the democrats, and the perverts.
Go ahead, make my Judgment Day!

Feb. 28, 2013 at 6:37pmIf gays are allowed to marry because to set a standard is somehow illegal, then ALL people should be allowed to marry because they are also outside of the standard. Siblings should be able to marry, age shouldn’t be a requirement anymore, how about a good dose of gay polygamy also…
Society has the right to set a standard, if gays say standards are discriminatory, then ALL standards should go by their logic.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 5:34pmWHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? This is not about our “friends” who are gay, this is about at least pointing kids in the right direction?
It makes a difference to the little boy with a penis, who thinks he is a girl, because his mother and father could care less?
This is not about hating gays, this is about giving God the finger?

Feb. 28, 2013 at 4:58pmI am telling you once they get this, the government will force “any” church to marry same sex couples. For those that say that is against the law and the constitution, Please enlighten me and tell me what part of the constitution is the government now protecting?

Feb. 28, 2013 at 4:57pmClint can have his own opinion.
But if a word’s meaning for over 2000 years is being scraped by a small minority does that mean the majority must SHUT UP?
This word MARRIAGE is derived from religions over many, many generations between one man and one woman…with each state deciding upon rules for a LICENSE just like for a DOCTOR, TEACHER, NURSE, DRIVING & even MARRIAGE licenses are regulated…
ONE MAN & ONE WOMAN OF CERTAIN AGE…
NOT one man and one ape…
nor one woman and one 5 year old girl…
nor one 50 year old man and 2 year old boy…
I would say the fight to keep MARRIAGE is to keep the DEFINITION the same
& on religious grounds…
cannot & SHOULD NOT be discounted.
Clint — man can have a union with a man — just GET YOUR OWN WORD !

Feb. 28, 2013 at 3:28pmSo according to the bible it’s ok if
A man marries his sister
A man marries his dead brothers wife
A man marries one woman and her servants
A man marries his rape victim
A man marries 700 women and 300 concubines
A man marries one woman and her slaves
A soldier can marry his virgin prisoners
But a same sex marriage IS IMMORAL. That’s hypocrisy at it’s finest.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:54pmI like Clint and respect his opinion. Personally I have always thought that people can do whatever they want, love whomever they want and marry whomever they want. My problem is with those who choose to be in my face constantly about it.
Before you all hate on me…try having a son or daughter tell you that he/she is gay and then hate them…sorry, cannot be done.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:46pmThe implementation of gay marriage will take away our freedom of religion. Churches will be forced to perform gay marriages or be closed down. Bakers will be forced to bake a gay cake or will be closed down.
Gays should not be granted special rights because of the way they think. Discrimination of blacks was due to physical characteristics.
Overturn the entire gay thing. Sex should be a private thing.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 3:55pmIt would require less gov., which is just the opposite of their intent. They want to abolish the church just as their cousins did in Russia nearly a hundred years ago. This is their tool to do it.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:45pmSorry, Clint like you as an actor, but disagree with the point. Sure Civil Unions, but no marriage. Marriage is for procreation and the best form to support a family and society. The falling aprt of families has done more harm than anything in our society and I blame the government and the welfare state for most of the harm done.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:32pmDear Clint:
I enjoyed you mocking Obama at the 2012 Republican Convention. People said you were “crazy.” That you were a weird old rambling nonsensical man. People didn’t get the schtick you were trying to stick to Obama. But, now, I have to say, “shut your pie hole Eastwood!”
“Go home Grandpa!” and stop talking in public! YOu are a dam embarrassment now!
I have said it over and over. As people get older they have this awful tendency to lose both their faith and their mental marbles. I would say Eastwood is fulfilling the bill on both counts.
Ackkk! I can’t stand these old farts any more. Just go home Grandpa and shut up and please people stop interviewing these stupid old farts!

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:27pmEvery time this goes to a vote it fails. Even in California it fails. It only comes up because the tiny percentage of the population that is “gay” has a lot of money and they donate to liberal causes that support them. If Republicans think for a second they are going to get any of that money away from the Communists they are deluded!
We have bigger fish to fry.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:28pmI would urge them to find anywhere in the Constitution where any kind of marriage is defined or claimed to be the domain of government. Marriage is a religious institution, and will ever be. Civil unions are a government invention.
There is no question of the constitutionality of marriage, since the FedGov holds no domain over the institution of marriage at all, nor can it.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:14pmTo help readers think more clearly about the definition of marriage, would TheBlaze please develop unbiased phrases? The term “gay marriage ban” is biased. That term is similar to saying “one-sided square ban.”

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:14pmThis is what happens when there is no critical thinking. Words now mean whatever “they” say they mean. Next up? Redecorating a room by declaring that the green color scheme is now defined as yellow. Done. Now wasn’t that easy?

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:09pmVery good points here. You can get married now without a church. Just head up to the court-house. After the gay-marriage ban is overturned the immediate argument will be to force intstitutions of faith to marry gay couples as well and that’s when the sh it will hit the fan.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:17pmAnd at that point, it will become a clear violation of the 1st Amendment. Civil Unions are government inventions, not rights, and equality before the law demands application to either all, or none at all.
If what you say happens, then it will be a clear affront to religious liberty, and I would oppose that. Right now, well, I’m for rule of law and equality before the law, even if it doesn’t particularly jibe with how I think things out to be.

Did you see the Blaze articles where the gay couple was suing the farm for not allowing their gay ceremony or the story about the Baker being sued because he would not bake a cake with two gay guys on top? It’s needs to be stopped now, because going back is impossible.

Feb. 28, 2013 at 4:03pm‘Equality before the law’ will then be extended to every other mental illness imaginable. It has already become very difficult to commit someone to a mental institution, due to their civil rights, regardless of their danger to themselves or others. Why not extend it to criminals also. Surely, it’s wrong to force them to stay in prison. Who are we to judge?(Sarcasm)
