Pro-Life Student Reportedly Threatened With Expulsion — And You’ll Never Believe Why
Pro-life students at DePaul University recently erected an anti-abortion display to mark the 40th anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case. While they were intent on exercising their free-speech rights, their work was inevitably torn down by other pupils at the school who clearly disagreed with the message.
Surprisingly, in the wake of the incident, it’s the head of the conservative campus group responsible for assembling the memorial who’s now in the hot seat. Kristopher DelCampo, 23, could face potential expulsion for publishing the names of his peers who destroyed the flag display.
The student, who chairs the campus chapter of Young Americans for Freedom, was found guilty by campus officials of two violations: “Disorderly, Violent, Intimidating or Dangerous Behavior to Self or Others” and “Judicial Process Compliance,” Fox News’ Todd Starnes reports.

Ironically, Del Campo came under fire for making public the incident report surrounding the attack on the pro-life memorial. He published the document on the YAF web site — something the university apparently didn’t take too kindly to.
Before we delve too deeply into that portion of the story, let’s take a moment to recap the story from start to finish, in case you missed it when it was originally reported last month. Starnes explains:
[In] January Del Campo and other pro-life students received permission from the university to erect a pro-life display featuring 500 flags. Vandals later destroyed the display – stuffing a number of the flags into trash cans.
The university’s public safety department launched an investigation and eventually identified 13 students who confessed to the crime. Those names were then released by the university to Del Campo.
On Feb. 5 the national Young Americans for Freedom organization posted the names of the vandals on their website. The posting generated negative comments directed at the vandals – and the university held Del Campo responsible.
So, Del Campo, a psychology major, is apparently being held accountable for the negative comments that were waged against the perpetrators. Ten days after the posting of the names went public, the student was officially charged with violating the schools “Code of Student Responsibility.”
Naturally, representatives from YAF and other groups are speaking out with dismay that Del Campo is being punished when he was initially the victim of the crime.
Pete Bonilla, a staff member at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, is among those defending the student. In a letter, he wrote to DePaul’s president, noting that the publication of names of students who have already confessed to vandalizing shouldn’t warrant such a harsh response.

An image of the display stuffed into the trash (Photo Credit: Young America’s Foundation)
“The 13 DePaul students named in the public safety report admitted not only to vandalizing YAF’s display but also planning to do so,” Bonilla’s letter read. “Students who purposefully vandalize the works of other students should not expect to be shielded from the public consequences of their actions.”
But so far the university has reportedly been less-than-accommodating. In an e-mail obtained by Starnes, Del Campo was purportedly threatened with disciplinary action, including expulsion, if he didn’t comply with a request for silence on the matter.
“It is unfortunate that this incident is part of your educational career,” Dean of Students Art Munin wrote to Del Campo. “Any further infractions of the Code of Student Responsibility during your probationary period may result in additional disciplinary action including removal from the university.”
Despite this warning, the student is speaking with Fox and telling his side of the story.
“The dean told me not to fight — he told me it wasn’t worth it — that I just have 13 weeks left at the university,” the student told Starnes. “But I’m going to fight this. This is wrong. This university has a problem with free speech rights and this time they met a challenger who is not backing down.”
Now, YAF is demanding charges be dropped. Read all of the details here. TheBlaze left a message for a representative at DePaul, but has not yet heard back.

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 12:53amThis is a clear violation of first amendment rights and an attempt by the school to intimidate the pro-life students. Aren’t schools now against bullying, not to mention not actually BEING the bully. I would file a class action suit demanding expulsion for the 13 bullies, resignation by the school president and the entire board of directors or ” ONE BILLION DOLLARS” credit to Dr Evil. Parents do not waste your money on this crap. Your kids can learn to think independently through self study, look to Abraham Lincoln. Why pay 6 digit salaries to people who will indoctrinate your children away from your own core beliefs?

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 11:22amIt’s really not a first amendment issue. Once the school concluded the investigation and released the names to Del Campo, they themselves officially placed the offenders names into the public sphere. Del Campo as the victim is not entitled to the names until the school deems them suitable for public release.
So his case rests not on free speech but on due process. They cannot condemn him for publishing their names when they ‘published’ them to him. They don’t have a case to begin with. Just like a reporter cannot be held liable for what people do based on what they report (as long as they don’t ‘fire up’ the reader in some fashion) Del Campo is protected from what others did or threatened to do so long as he was using a neutral voice when he published the names.
Not only is the University wrong but I’d expect F.I.R.E to be stepping in any moment now.

Posted on March 4, 2013 at 11:08pmIf I remember correctly, DePaul is a private university and may therefore conduct their institution however they wish. The Constitution does not dictate how individual entities conduct business other than that the federal government not infringe on their rights. Were it a public university, he may have a chance, but this will never even make it before judge, very likely. Think about it before you start calling hellfire down upon them.

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 2:09pmThe right to free speech isn’t being violated here. The first amendment protects you from the government arresting you for speaking your mind. This isn’t the government, but a private university; this isn’t an arrest, but a potential expulsion.
I doubt Del Campo WILL get expelled, but this has nothing to do with the first amendment. The key questions to ask are:
1. Why did Del Campo receive the list of names, and
2. Was he given any instructions or guidance on how they should or should not be used?

The First Amendment DOES have limitations, and does not extend to private homes/businesses/etc. There may be a civil rights case here (unlikely), but most lawyers would choose a taking a bath with lepers than take the case….if they have any sense. First Amendment law is more complicated than, “Hey, I have freedom of speech, dammit!” You don’t have as many freedoms as you’d like to think.

Punish the man who stands up for unborn children being murdered via the first amendment, to pacify the criminals who vandalized a memorial enacted with university approval.
I wonder which one of the unprosecuted criminal vandal/offender(s) has (have) relatives donating money for a new library or chapel…. where, undoubtedly they will mourn the loss of aborted children.

Posted on February 28, 2013 at 9:37pmOkay, my first thought regards the Rutgers homosexual student who committed suicide after video exposed the act on social media. I attempted to find something along this line in the search engine regarding DePaul’s rules. A couple of hits came up first DePaul itself, but nothing on this rule. This was followed by a boatload of other schools with related exposure rules.
Then I simply cut and pasted “DePaul Code of Student Responsibility” into the search engine. Came up with that in total. Its rather short and almost vague. Unless the Code has been rewritten since this was posted it really does not contain a rule to cover what DelCampo is being held to. It does cover this cut and paste of the subtitle, “Damage to Personal or Private Property.” To which the other students don’t seem to be required to follow. I could be wrong on that since it was not discussed above in any detail.
Here is the link to the complete Code. The subtitles are in the column to the left.

Sex is pretty darn good. But with Democrats in charge of every aspect of a person’s life, sex will be the highpoint of a person’s life. Think about that.

These people are traumatized every day of their lives and do not dare to speak their regret and sorrow that caused them to beg God for forgiveness because many people still think that repentant woman in her 50′s should suffer and die for being an 18 year old who believed the lie their doctor said and Planned Parenthood confirmed, that it was just a bunch of cells, not a baby, and then they learned the truth through a very painful experience. These men and women DO suffer, continuously. Although I have listened to many people share the emotional devastation, physical pain and mental torture of abortion, even decades later, I have never heard one of them think it was a good thing. not one. These are the shameful silent and they do not vote for liberal candidates for this very reason. Please consider that with enough compassion and support, the remorseful who mourn the loss of their children would be a powerful voice to dissuade others from following in their footsteps. I pray that this post softens at least one heart. I also pray it provides a little comfort for any post abortive person who reads this post who is grieving, as there are millions. Rachel’s Vineyard is a safe place for people seeking relief from post abortion trauma they carry, days, months, years and decades later. These folk need compassion, love and prayers, not hatred.
