La. Teens Disciplined After Sporting ‘Jesus Loves You’ Sign at Basketball Game — But It’s Not What You Think

Two Louisiana teens were disciplined over a mocking “Jesus Loves You” sign meant to show support for their high school basketball team.
WAFB-TV reported the Patterson High School students posed with a handmade poster that read, “Jesus Hearts You!…Unless You Attend Parkview Baptist” during a game last Friday. One of the students was also wearing a T-shirt that said “I hate Parkview.”
According to WAFB, a photo of the Patterson students made the rounds on the Internet and Kevin Thibodeaux, assistant superintendent of St. Mary Parish Schools, said they “have been disciplined” for their conduct.
Parkview Baptist coach Don Green said neither he nor his players noticed the sign during the game, and didn’t think the students meant any harm.
“I don’t believe there was any intent or ill will, just going maybe just a step too far in trying to support the team,” Green said.
The sign didn’t seem to give Patterson any juju: Parkview beat them 59-42.

Funny?
How deep you know that Jesus loves everyone may help you decide.

Posted on March 2, 2013 at 1:59amWhy is there a news story regarding everyday child development? They are kids still learning what is socially accepted behavior, and they are going to make mistakes. When they make these kinds of minor faux pas, a mild form of social punishment is appropriate, not a news story. Wth is wrong with some of you, humans are not born with an intrinsic knowledge of what is socially acceptable or unacceptable it has to be learned and mistakes occur.

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 6:05pmTake the private school Christian vs Christian element out of this and it is still rude and tacky. Funny is funny and it is not this. Is this why people kill each other at soccer games? Poor sportsmanship can happen in the stands as well as on the floor. I am glad the school called them on their behavior.

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 6:23pmDeaths at soccer games occur because of fascism or socialism.
I’m serious. Look it up.
All soccer riots occur in fascist or socialist countries, without exception.
We don’t have sports riots here because immature signs ,like this, are somewhat expected… because we are free to be dumb.

Morrocco, constitutional monarchy,
England, parlimentary monarchy
Ghana, independent democracy
Spain, parlimentary democracy.
What does Socialism and Feudlism have to do with this. There are only 4 countries that consider themselves Socialist, 3 more that are Democratic Socialist.
And yes, idiocy is expected in this country but we are also self righteous and disrespecful with a tendency to overreact at the slightest bit of disapproval in what our beliefs are, when we expect and demand everyone else to accept us for how we are.
These teenagers didn’t know the serverity of the words they were saying, nor did they have the smallest amount of respect for someone else with opposing views. I understand our freedom of speech lets them say whatever they’d like, but this could easily been construed as a hate crime against a different religion.
Why is a sign like this considered funny? All they do is spew ignorance and get complimented for it. Why do Americans have to always have a shock laugh, or anything that has to do with degradation. The only thing this sign signifies is that Americans are immature, closed-minded, and egotistical.
Also, what happened to our society? (11 hah) 11 years ago, the controversial “Bong hits 4 Jesus” sign was made. It didn’t promote hate of any kind, yet it was stripped from the hands of the boy as if it had the power to possess. One doesn’t have to believe in the occult to realize we are being desensitized

Posted on March 2, 2013 at 10:10amThis is an example on the micro level where this country is failing. These kids are showing the following: Team spirit, dislike for a disgusting group and exercising their free right the express themselves. They did not yell “fire” in a movie theater. These words were not of a racial tone etc… You want them to be punished by the school and this behavior done away with. Well I find your attitude, about their freedoms, offensive. Thus you should shut up and go away just as equally. In all honesty, you both have the right to express yourself, as dumb as your comments MAY be interpreted by dumb people.

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 6:15pmIt was a poor attempt at humor, and I think the girls know that now. The opposing team’s coach understood the error those girls made, forgave them immediately, mentioning how at his Christian school this would not go over very well. He responded as you would hope of a coach at a Christian school – with truth, forgiveness and humility.

I thought their sign was funny.
If i attended the rival school, and saw their sign, i would have thought it was funny, too.
The Christian High School i attended in the 80′s was guilty of far worse sportsmanship…
We used weed killer in a pump-sprayer to draw a giant P E N I S in the grass of the football stadium of our main rival. They painted over it with green spray-paint for three years. lol.
This sign is child’s play.

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 4:47pmGlenn Beck said today to send your kids to religious schools. He supports privatizing education. He wants corporations to profit from educating children.
Children can be mean. Mr Beck played up a story of a girl who was teased by her classmates because she bought a paper gun to school. Her classmates called her a murderer.
When Glenn Beck told the story he lied.
He said it was the school administration that was calling names.
No one just can’t trust anything Mr. Beck says.
Holding a New Jersey rifle Mr. Beck said there was no way it could have been manufactured in New Jersey with Chris Christie as Governor. He said this even with the evidence in his hands.
He just can’t stop lying.

But then again, you see countless examples on here of similar ignorance by individuals who are self proclaimed good christians. But of course I’m sure JC main focus was to provide comic relief and be used as a competitive force against such an unholy group as the opposing basketball team from a religious school.

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 5:43pmYet again, rook displays his hateful bias. Let me challenge him to point us to where these two girls identified themselves as Christians. Of course he cannot, and that’s my point. Nowhere in this article or on the video did these girls state that they were Christians. But facts like that don’t stop rook from spewing his hate for Christians. Just more proof that I hope could be used to make him realize how unfair and hateful he is. He probably has no Christian friends, and he certainly seems not to understand Christianity very well.
