Obama: My ‘Evolution’ on Gay Marriage Is the Same as the Rest of the Country

Obama: My Evolution on Gay Marriage Is Same as the Rest of the Country | Obama Same Sex Marriage Supreme Court

AP

President Barack Obama said Friday he thinks his “evolution” on gay marriage has mirrored the shift in public opinion in the country as a whole.

“We cannot discriminate against same-sex couples when it comes to marriage,” Obama said. “I think this evolution I’ve gone through is the same evolution the country as a whole has gone through.”

Speaking to White House reporters, Obama said his administration couldn’t avoid filing a “friend-of-the-court” brief with the Supreme Court urging it to strike down California’s Proposition 8 same-sex marriage ban.

“I felt it best to articulate what I believe and what this administration stands for,” Obama said, adding that California’s law provides no basis for discriminating against gay couples other than their sexual orientation.

Obama came out in favor of same-sex marriage last year after formally opposing it.

Normalization of abnormal behavior is destroying the moral fabric , traditional values and principles of this nation. Of all the special interest groups in this nation, only one defines itself by sexual preference. The sole unifying characteristic of its members is the practice of abnormal sexual acts.In order to make themselves look “normal” they are doing everything that they can to change “social standards.”

The abnormal’s demand tolerance and acceptance from the normal’s, but give none in return. The institution of marriage has been well defined for eons and its never been about a man marrying a man or a woman marrying a woman and it never will, no matter how hard they try. They can’t feel good about themselves, so they must force us to feel good about them. It’s never going to work.

First, these liberals/Progressives get into a tizzy every time government is mixed with “religion”. Well, why are you liberals (encicom) supporting government mixing with a religious ritual…the one of marriage? Government NEEDS to be out of the marriage business altogether. Saying otherwise is hypocrisy.

Second, how come I’m denied MY right to freely express myself? I was slandered, sent hate mail and threats just because I did not want their agenda shoved down my 8 year old’s throat! So much for tolerance.

BTW, obama, the country is not behind you on this and as a President, your job is not to make sure gays or other groups get more rights. The premise of the USA is equal FREEDOM, not rights! There is a huge difference. When a government right is granted to a group, another group loses its freedom. Equal FREEDOM not RIGHTS!

This seems like such a waste, a perfectly good homosexual controversy presented on a Friday when it’s really too late for our obsessive compulsive gay bashing fauxmericans who lose their computer access on weekends and holidays. They could have spent some serious time commenting here.

If you are patriotic and care about our economy, maybe you should consider evolving like the POTUS.

It is a proven fact that a higher percentage of Job Creators are Gay and Lesbian. These folks NEED our support so they will create jobs. If they are inconvenienced or made to absorb risk, they will not create jobs. They need certainty about Gay Marriage to be able to plan for the future.

If you are rude to the GLBT Job Creators they will not create any jobs! Be respectful to those who are successful, they are more often than not, wealthier and more intelligent than most other people.

Exactly. Allowing abnormal and immoral behavior is wrong, and our country will suffer for it. We cannot allow the continued discrimination against homosexuals. It is time to put an end to their abnormal and irrational hatred of gay people. This cannot be done overnight, but by having the Supreme Court legalize gay marriage, we will be clearly moving in the right direction.

Rome evolved on the issue also.

      Facts are still facts:

Every super power nation in world history that has accepted homosexuality as normal and natural has soon after fell.

Gays are 2.5% of the population and have 64% of the nation’s syphilis, made up 57% of new HIV cases last year, and have the highest suicide rates, and above average drug and alcohol abuse rates.

Homosexual males commit 1/3 of the nation’s child molestations.

Lesbians have the highest domestic abuse rates in the nation.

      Homosexuals recruit children

Homosexuality, just like child molestation, rape, having sex with animals…. is a sexual deviation.

Whoa there big guy! Lets take a look at some of those so-called “facts”

“Every super power nation in world history that has embraced homosexuality as normal and natural has soon after fell.” Ummm…. No. Not even close to truth. The concept of homosexuality did not even exist before a few hundred years ago, and before that, male-male sex was common and accepted in all societies at all times. This argument is stupid and flat out wrong.

“Gays are 2.5%…” First, I have seen statistics that show gays as being higher than 15%. Since you have to tell people you are gay, there will never be a reliable percentage here. And yes, gay men do have slightly higher STD rates for HIV, but straight men and women have higher rates for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Hepatitis. What is your point here?

“Homosexual males commit 1/3 of the nation’s child molestations”. Wrong again. I assume you mean 1/3 of molested children are male. It does not mean the molester is gay. Frankly, anyone abusing children does not fit in as gay or straight, but as a pedophile. Besides, many “straight” men have abused boys too.

“Lesbians have the highest abuse rates in the nation.” And straight men have the highest rape rates in the nation. What is your point here?

And gay men do not “recruit” kids. It is not possible. You can’t change your sexual orientation. Finally, you may consider it a sexual deviation, but not everyone does.

@cessna152 If your position is that they should not be offered the ability to use and thus alter the definition of the term marriage then I agree with you. They should however be able to access and be granted civil unions. The amount of time, effort and money tied up into what is nothing more than a symbolic argument over the term marriage is reflective over what is really wrong with the country. That is that any number of groups place way too much importance on their “belief entitlement”. And that they have a right to hold beliefs even when they are not rooted in science, sound logic, rational thought or a defensible theory or thought process. Having said that you instruction to the PRESIDENT is reflective of the aforementioned belief entitlement. It is in fact the PRESIDENTS and our entire governments job to assure that every American enjoys equal freedoms and equal protection to exercise their rights identified within the constitution and afforded every citizen. But altering a the definition of a culturally, socially and religious defined term is not one of them. Civil union is what they should have available. Perhaps they could spend some time, effort and money researching a more appropriate term for their committed relationships.

      Jrook:

The problem is that civil unions are not equal to marriage. In all states that recognize civil unions, the benefits given to them are not the same as the benefits given to married couples. They are not recognized by the federal government. And there are plenty of groups that actively campaign against allowing civil unions and ban them in state constitutions. If you are so concerned about the term marriage, call it gay marriage and traditional marriage like you have been. We are focused on achieving equality. If your sole reason for opposing gay marriage is that you don’t like the term, thats pretty sad. Legally, it is marriage, but you can call it whatever you want! Just don’t deny us the same rights you already enjoy.

We all need to rethink our attitudes about business persons. The past 4 years have shown us that successful job creators need certainty and favorable conditions to be able to create jobs.

Our top GOP leaders, including Romney and Gingrich; and TEA Party leaders including Palin, Bachmann and Paul told us this important message day after day. Give the Job Creators what they want! Do not inconvenience or ask them to sacrifice. Eliminate all risk and uncertainty – otherwise the Job Creators will Leave.

Our Government must learn to give the very few Job Creators anything they need to be certain we get jobs. Job Creators are “special” and have a high incidence of immorality and deviance. But, they are wealthy and don’t put up with everyday hardships. The Administration is focused on jobs, and therefore is trying to satisfy the rich and successful wherever they are found.

Support T-E-A initiatives. We should be stronger than ever in 2014.

Fear not you degenerate lovers of the homosexual. DOMA will get overturned in the very near future, and gays will get to get to marry and will get full recognition nationally.

Shortly after, libs will move to start doing away with 1st amendment rights, shutting down a preacher’s right to speak against homosexuality. Christian schools will be made to comply with not speaking against homosexuality, or they will be shut down, and the homeschooling will be made illegal.

Parents will start being sent to jail for teaching children anything that is contrary to what the state teaches.

Legislation will be put forward to start lowering the age of consent, and giving gay men aces to younger and younger boys.

All standards of morality will be dropped; the heathen will push for allowing polygamy and bestiality.

While America basks in her sexual deviance, the economy will continue to plummet, the takers will continue to outnumber the makers, and one day, the system will break and the welfare check will not go out. The godless, sexually deviant heathen will pour from the large cities like ravenous wolves, raping, stealing, and murdering all that stands in their path. Americans enemies will then attack from multiple angles, and America, just like Rome will cease to exist.

O as a lawyer has the same mentality as Elena Kagan…if you don’t like a law, just change it to what you do like…use the justice system to change laws without citizen voted representation, and then if you can’t change the law then change the definitions for that law…sick and evil way to bypass the checks and balance of the US Constitution….and then call it progression or “evolution” of thought…

Rewind 50 years. By changing the definition of marriage to include interracial couples, you are changing the common definition into an uncommon one. If you don’t like a definition, I guess you just change it, and call it evolution or progression of thought.

And sodomy refers to specific sexual actions which are performed by the majority of all couples, gay and straight. It really has nothing to do with a loving couple looking to get married.

This is a guess on my part and nothing more. I have no legal background whatsoever (unless watching Perry Mason counts of course).

Here is what I think might be considered an impeachable offense on his part: President, Obama is the chief law enforcement officer in the land. His Oath of Office includes the promise to uphold the laws of the land. I don’t think that he gets to pick and choose which of those laws he will defend. DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act, is still the law of the land. SCOTUS has not struck it down (yet). Congress has not passed subsequent legislation invalidating it. What we have here is the chief law enforcement officer refusing to enforce a law on the grounds that he doesn’t agree with it. I don’t think that falls within his discretion.

You should not be able to deny equal rights to one group of people, no matter how the majority feels. “I felt it best to articulate what I believe and what this administration stands for,” Obama said
    ———–

This administration stands for taking down America from within and promoting perversion and destroying the traditional family is part of that process.

Here’s an idea barry; convert all ‘marriages’ to civil unions & change the tax code to not recognize any union. Then leave marriage to the churches. Since civil union divorces will fall under civil courts – no problem.

You do not speak for me Obama. My morals and standards do not evolve to suit societal demands.

      That’s because you’re a Christian Mom. What’s that say about Obama’s faith?

Excellent points MOMRULES and GONZO. Obama’s position on morality evolves because he is not grounded in the Word, as anyone who is familiar with the Bible knows. Obama is a tree that bringeth forth evil fruit:

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
      —Matthew 7

One does not have to be a Christian to disagree with this man. He does not speak for me and my beliefs also do not evolve to coincide with the decaying morals of this society.

I honestly do not know what I am… I am not an athiest…. I know that.. everything else.. up for grabs.

Hotfixit, maybe you should read Mom’s entire comment. My response was to her second point.
