Following a last-minute meeting with congressional leaders on Friday, President Barack Obama addressed the automatic spending cuts scheduled to take effect today.
Shockingly, he put the blame squarely on Republicans.
“[Republicans] refuse to budge on closing a single wasteful loophole to help reduce the deficit. As recently as yesterday, they decided to protect special interest tax breaks for the well-off and the well-connected,” the president said, “[to them] it’s more important than protecting our military or middle-class families from the pain of these cuts.”
Republicans “need to catch up … with their own country on this,” he said, adding that he knows some Republicans who privately say that “they’d rather close tax loopholes” than allow sequestration and that these members of the GOP need to “be given a voice.”
In short, the president said he has very little (if anything) to do with the spending cuts he signed into law. In fact, while taking questions during his Friday presser, the president was asked specifically if he takes any responsibility for the cuts.
His answer?
“Give me an example of what I might do?” the president said, putting the reporter on the spot. “What more do you think I should do?”
One reporter half-jokingly suggested that he lock leaders of Congress in a room until they come up with a solution.
“I am not a dictator,” Obama replied, adding that he can’t simply lock GOP leaders in a room. “I am the president.”
He never once addressed the fact that he signed these supposedly painful and dangerous cuts into law — or the fact that they were his administration’s idea in the first place.
“None of this is necessary. It’s happening because of a choice that Republicans in Congress have made,” he said. “The economy will not grow as quickly as it would have. Unemployment will not go down as quickly as it would have.”
The failed meeting between the president and congressional leaders got under way shortly after 10 a.m. EST. After it broke up, Speaker Boehner told reporters that he would not agree to a plan that calls for an increase in taxes.
“The discussion about revenue, in my view is over. It’s about taking on the spending problem,” he said in a statement.

Obama pulled out all the stops today…white house janitors (yeah..white house janitors), disabled kids (check), ship builders (check), the elderly (check), “folks sitting at the table”(check), college kids(check), you name it he threw them all in there. He was trying to gin up a lot of unrest and class warfare today. He named the GOP house exclusively. This was the thin-skinned, self-approving, Alinskyite community organizer in full throated “don’t blame me, blame them” display. Truly a sight to behold. A sitting U.S. president shamelessly manipulating the ignorant and his lapdog media to foment political unrest.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I always knew that Obama’s biggest thorn in his side was the GOP victory in the 2010 midterms but today he let all that frustration and egotism hang out.
Now here’s what to expect..Obama will intentionally inflict pain on the most vulnerable to further his political agenda (winning back the house in 2014)..get ready for the heartstring pulling as “the cuts” star and “the hurt” begins. The day care centers, the jobless. The sycophant media will go into full wagon circling mode around Obama and exploit every sad sack story they get their hands on.

Mar. 1, 2013 at 1:38pmHere’s the bottom line. In his arrogance and ignorance…Obama foisted the sequester on the GOP house in leiu of real spending cuts during the debt ceiling debacle. Obama believed the sequester would never go into effect if he got a second term. It was an awful piece of budget legislation specifically tailored to be ugly and unpalatable so as to be changed further down the road. If he was voted out…it would be a moot point..he’s out and he’ll blame his successor.
But in a bit of poetic justice….Obama remained in office and the sequester remained intact and alive (let’s not forget Obama threatened to veto any GOP changes to the sequester) and it’s returned like a Frankenstein monster to it’s creator. Obama thought his all too familiar bully pulpit classwarfare, perpetual campaign would do the trick for him again..but it failed him this time. Now he’s got the sequester and all it’s ugliness squarely on his lap. No the sky won’t fall and Maxie Walker’s 170 million people won’t lose their jobs but it’s an ugly piece of budget legislation nonetheless and it was designed to be ugly so as to force a future congress into dropping it with Obama believing he could throw in more taxes as a result of any new legislation. But that didn’t happen. Obama’s gambit didn’t pay off and we’re seeing just how irresponsible and unfeeling Obama can be with this.
Now watch every hard luck story bled for all it’s worth by the Marxstream media.

The way to fix it is the same way it was fixed after Woodrow Wilson tried the same thing in 1900 (i.e. to destroy our Republic by ruining the economy with debt). You cut Federal spending by 50% and decrease taxes. It took only 18 months for our economy to recover. The 6 million jobs that the Dems brag about creating are mostly government jobs that only further drain our economy. We need to fire 50% of the goverment workers. Dis-ban the Dept of Education – let each State keep it’s own money and control education in their State. Close the EPA – it is corrupt. Get rid of the Dept. of Energy – they have done nothing since formed by Carter. GSA could go away, and no one would notice. These are just a few. Also end Retirement for members of Congress, and let them pay into retirement plans like we do.

If we don’t fix the deficit, it will destroy the dollar. Destroying the dollar will do a lot more harm than raising taxes a few percentage points will.

IF the Executive Branch DID NOT make the cuts by 3/1/13 (after the election, well played you dog you) then there would be an AUTOMATIC sequestration of funds.. NOT CUTS mind you…just slower increases in automatic adjustments made to the budgets of government agencies that supposedly account for inflation and COLA for employees.
So..your party put it together…rammed it down the GOP throat…YOU signed it into law…claimed you would NEVER let it happen so don’t worry STUPID voter….and now that YOU didn’t do what YOU were supposed to…YOU blame the GOP again….
You also already GOT tax increases on every working American…the 2% increase in FICA…you GOT a tax increase on the wealthy up 4.3% PLUS the hidden tax for Medicare another 2.3% that was hidden in IDIOTCARE act that bares your name…the GOP had to give in to SAVE the Mortgage Interest Deduction for ALL Americans and save the increase in the Death Tax plus the lowering of its limit to only 1.2 million (which would have even made my grandma’s estate – home included – over the limit after her 88 year life)

Then he came out publicly several times stating any attempts to change the cuts would be VETOED. The Republican will let us down if the sign another debt increase to further fund that 85 billion or 3% cut of the total debt spending. or 1% of the total bidget.

I don’t want to but even I can find a way to cut $20 from my tight budget without starving my kids or selling my van. Call me crazy, but theres a little more room in the federal budget than mine and they can’t find the equivalent of $20 per week? Either we lack competent leadership or the leadership we have has an anti-American agenda.
By the way, Progressives took $20 out of every bodies checks at the beginning of the year in the form and mass riots didn’t ensue.of higher taxes. No ones children starved seniors are still cared for.

Obama gave the sequester to the GOP house to placate their demands for spending cuts during the debt ceiling debacle. Jack Lew and Barack Obama came up with an intentionally ugly sequester hoping it would be dumped further down the track for it’s ugliness.
You will recall the GOP tried to change the the sequester but Obama threatened to veto any changes to it? Yes?
