High School Student Disarms Gunman…Gets Suspended?

Florida High School Student Disarms Gunman...Gets Suspended?

A Florida high school student wrestled a loaded gun away from another teen on the bus ride home this week and was slapped with a suspension in return.

The 16-year-old Cypress Lake High student in Fort Myers, Fla. told WFTX-TV there was “no doubt” he saved a life after grappling for the loaded .22 caliber revolver being aimed point-blank at another student on Tuesday.

“I think he was really going to shoot him right then and there,” said the suspended student, not identified by WFTX because of safety concerns. “Not taking no pity.”

The student said the suspect, a football player, threatened to shoot a teammate because he had been arguing with his friend.

Authorities confirmed to WFTX the weapon was indeed loaded, and the arrest report stated the suspect, identified by WVZN-TV as Quadryle Davis, was “pointing the gun directly” at the other student and “threatening to shoot him.”

That’s when, the teen told the station, he and two others tackled the suspect and wrestled the gun away. The next day, all three were suspended.

“How they going to suspend me for doing the right thing?” he asked.

The school’s referral slip said he was given an “emergency suspension” for being involved in an “incident” with a weapon. Lee County School District spokesman Alberto Rodriguez said in a statement that “If there is a potentially dangerous situation, Florida law allows the principal to suspend a student immediately pending a hearing.”

“Those kids had to fight for their lives,” the mother of the suspended teen said. “All the kids that was involved in this they should have a pat on their backs because they did the right thing to save someone from burying their child.”

The suspended teen is allowed to go back to school Monday.

Meanwhile, the student accused of pointing the weapon has been charged only with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon “without intent” to kill.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and that the charges are “based on our findings at this time.”

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

    His crimes are obvious:
    1) he stopped a shooting
    2) He saved a kid from being killed.

Liberals love shootings and dead kids. It helps them push their political agenda forward.

I really can’t think of a better reason to be suspended.

They don’t want heroes. They don’t even want people who will take a stand. They want sheep. But it will be OK, they will tell them they are not sheep, and being good sheep, they will believe them.

Of course this suspension makes perfect sense to liberals. Liberals need dead children. Liberals need a body count. We can’t have people disarming and disabling active shooters, that just doesn’t fit the narrative. We have to let kids know that in the face of a shooter, you have to let yourself be killed for the good of the collective. We must not allow kids to defend themselves or others, it doesn’t fit the narrative.

That’s right, let the gunman just kill the kids and do nothing about it. Our children have been taught that liberal garbage in the public schools – be nice – play nice – everybody wins – no one will get hurt – you are wrong for doing something right – and the list goes on. Life is not that way!

What needs to be done is to take the administration out back and beat the living $#!^ out of them. Maybe, just maybe, they will wake the heck up.

Every teacher should be armed – the intelligent ones anyway, and someone should have killed the gunman which solves the problem. The military doesn’t teach us to be nice to our enemies now does it? The police carry guns just to round out the fashion look, right? Wrong! There are nut jobs in the world and guns are needed. If David had been able to use an AR-15 against Goliath he would have. Instead it was a sling and a rock. Holy smokes, people! Get with the program. GOD expects you to defend yourself – not stand there and die.

As for the student that disarmed the bad guy, way to go! Worry not about being suspended as that may be the best thing to ever happen to you. Find a nice private, God-loving, Constitution-loving, Gun-loving school and have your parents enroll you there.

Speaking as a former education and disciplinarian– a situation like this requires immediate action to prevent anything from on going and to give administration time to respond accordingly.

I never dealt with anything involving a firearm, but I did deal with students breaking up fights. They were sent home, but we never called it a suspension. We told the students and parents it was an opportunity for everyone to calm down and to let students focus on their classwork.

The school calling it a suspension is a big issue for me, I don’t disagree with the kids spending a day off of school– give them that cool down period and allow them to complete any work they might miss, but don’t call it a suspension unless your investigation calls for a suspension.

Yes, To a Liberal a raped dead woman is preferable to a live survivor who defends herself with a gun, And Yet again we see here the stupidity of the 0 tolerance policy of the Liberals, They would rather see a dead child rather than Cheer the Heros who saved that child’s life, When you or some one else is attacked, You have the right to defend Yourself, or the other Person, It is the Criminal Bully who is responsible, This treating the victim as a contributor problem is NEW SPEAK 1984 in the worst way.

The main point is that the Progressives want to discourage anyone from taking individual responsibility. Wait for the authorized gov’t employee to handle the situtation or else. If people are independent then they don’t need a gov’t that spends $1 trillion more than it takes in. The next step of the brainwashing is to teach people to report their neighbors for being individuals.

They are creating and encouraging violence as it feeds their storyline. In the meantime, they are conditioning the kids to be afraid of guns. They will get in trouble for even mentioning a gun. That said however, guns are mentioned in the news every night. We don’t need to know what happened in another state or country just because a gun was used. Don’t you see? They are trying to tell us there is more and more violence with guns when the truth is, it has dropped in half.

This isn’t getting any attention, I would wager an intelligent guess, because a) the would-be shooter was most likely black, and b) the victim was also black. MSM only makes a big deal if it’s white (or white Hispanic) on black violence here in Florida.

Okay, let’s put our thinking caps on for a second. I understand the sentiment expressed here. This guy disarmed a another guy with a gun and may have, or probably, saved some lives. I that believe to be true. Hang on to that thought.

But think for a second. Is there anything else to the story? You know that if a cop kills or even injures a bad guy committing a crime he’s put on administrative leave right? Why would that be? Good guy honors his badge, protects the public and he’s told he can’t be a cop for awhile?

I believe story, a good kid wrestled away a gun from a kook. But the school has to investigate. Maybe this good guy threatened to kill the bad guy? Or he’s a drug dealer? Or he’s been kicked out of school for bring in a gun? Those are all hypotheticals and I don’t believe them anymore than I believe that a cop who shoots someone and is given paid leave or given a desk job is likely to have acted inappropriately. But we no longer have frontier justice in the country, something you will appreciate if you’re every accused of a crime. So there’s an investigation.

Do you know what I really find stupid though? I mean really stupid? The idea, provoked by topic, that this good guy was suspended BECAUSE he disarmed the other guy. Those posters have dispatched their common sense and replaced that part of their brain extreme right wing idiocy.

A student being suspended is not the same as a cop getting “desk duty”. A cop with desk duty still works and still collects a paycheck. A suspended student isn’t so lucky. Frankly, your analogy doesn’t hold water.
About your “right-wing” crack; I don’t subscribe to the left/right paradigm. I don’t support either side or either party, but i do call ‘em like i see ‘em. You can not deny that the left benefits when children die because of shootings. They are willing to use whatever tragic event that they can to push their anti-gun agenda. If that means dancing on the graves of children, so be it.

      @meteors
you give a lot of hypotheticals, but I didn’t hear you predicting things that don’t support your obviously liberal agenda, like:
      1) maybe the principal gave the gun to the kid and premeditated and schemed this murder to further the gun confiscation from white people….maybe obama planned this, we don’t know, maybe agenda 21.
      2) have you considered that this suspension will likely keep this kid from playing in their teams next game? Maybe the principal has money on the game…or maybe obama and his administration has money on the game??? we’ll never know because the media obviously doesn’t care about the truth or the nwo and zionism.

      3) Maybe the kid was black, and therefore was misreported as being a student and a hero. Obviously since he wasn’t a student, he was there to commit a crime (like steal the bus) and stumbled across this other kid threatening a person with the gun. Since he wasn’t a student, the principal should be fired for suspending the hero kid…and Obama kenya muslim, cold dead fingers.

      keep up the good fight.

Finally someone with common sense. This is exactly what I was thinking. Bad terminology calling it a suspension but perhaps that’s the only legal was for the school to send and keep a student home for a few days, to get him mind right and calm down from such an event. He’ll, I wouldn’t have even cosidered that a punish ment back when I was in school. Saved a like and I got a 4 day weekend? SWEET!

We, the People need, no, WE MUST show the world EXACTLY who these leftist Marxist liberals really are! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, LEFTIES. I heard a lady in our grocery line as I was waiting for the guy in front of me, say that Obama was a saint. When I finished, everyone in the line actually CLAPPED FOR ME. I never saw anyone look so foolish in my life as that lady. THEY ARE THE MINORITY.

Personally, I am sick to death of these liberals telling me what to do, setting the consensus for everything and I am fighting back. 3 times my American flag was: 1st time it was stolen; 2nd time, the new one was ripped to shreds while on the pole; the 3rd time, someone spray-painted it. This was all done in 1 month’s time. SO, I PUT IN A FLAGPOLE AND RAISED THAT FLAG SO NO ONE COULD GET TO IT BUT ME. I also put a camera on the pole and got a real good pic of the culprit, had him and his little buddies arrested and I filed charges of destruction of property. Their parents begged me to drop them. I told the parents that I would have if they had only done it ONCE, but no, they had to make a Nazi point and so I MADE A BIGGER POINT in that I WILL TAKE A STAND, BIGGER THAN THE ONE THEY MADE AND THEY WOULD REMEMBER IT ALL THE DAYS OF THEIR LIVES.

I went to a private school up north , moved ,then went to public high school in the south . All boys had guns in their vehicles and walked through the halls with knives on their sides , it was the “in” thing to do I guess. Fights weren’t uncommon but nobody ever pulled out that knife or went to their truck for a gun . What has changed ? The knives were just as sharp and the guns just as deadly.

Everyone has values and principles until their party comes into power. More than race, gender, and money, politics is the ultimate divider and our political ruling class plays on that division to seperate us and to keep us apart.

“Especially when it is those same liberals who are the only ones trying to do anything to stop it”

How are liberals trying to stop it? By proposing more laws? Let me explain something to you, moron. Criminals don’t follow the law. That is what makes them criminals in the first place. The gang bangers and the thugs that commit the vast majority of the gun-related violence in this country aren’t going to follow any of the laws that the liberals propose. The only people who are affected by gun laws are the people who don’t break the law. Explain to me how that is going to keep kids safe?

“let me counter your disgusting comment with one of my own.. Conservatives either love seeing children be shot, or just don’t care that children are shot because they refuse to take any measures to curb the deaths… see how ridiculous that sounds”

It actually does make some sense… it was an “emergency suspension” pending an investigation. They may actually be trying to protect the kid because they have no idea if this ‘gunman’ has friends or if they may be planning retaliation. Sometimes a few days can help ‘cool off’ a situation. If it were a ‘disciplinary’ suspension, they probably wouldn’t use the term ‘emergency’.

You’re absolutely correct, this makes no sense, whose to say this student with the gun would have stopped firing after he killed the target kid? If the two heroes want to go to college, having a vague “involved in a lethal weapon incident” on their high school manuscript will be enough to kill their potential careers. Hopefully this will be resolved the “right way” and these boys will be rewarded not punished. The suspension may just be so administrators can gather facts and make a clear and intelligent decision.

Upon reading the headline, those were my thoughts exactly. Then, upon reading the story, there is plausibility for their suspension from the school as a means to both defuse the situation and to prevent retaliation against them from an as yet unknown friend or accomplice of the “Alleged” gunman. A sort of turning over protective custody to the student’s parents (and avoiding any liability if anything happens off campus at the same time.) As to the MSM’s take on this incident, it most likely won’t last much past a day or three at the best, and the main thrust of it will most likely be on “How do we prevent ‘Our Children’ from getting guns?”, not on the quick thinking, bravery and heroism of the suspended students; who, by taking matters into their hands, prevented a potentially mush greater from happening. Was it risky? Yes. Then again, life is full of risk’s. One of them, if the quotes of the students and the parent are any indication, apparently, is failing to be taught English in this public school district.

You need to understand that he should have called the police and waited for them to call. If he was not allowed to use his cell phone on school property or the bus then he would have to wait until later when he got home or the ambulances arrived to pick up the dead body of the football player and any other witnesses that saw the boy shoot them once he realized they also had to die since they saw him do it. Being a good modern day democrat/ lamb to slaughter is different than our days of past. Now days you cannot be a proactive responsible person who acts to the IMMEDIATE threat to save yourself or others without being labeled THE PROBLEM. If the liberal/socialist needed your help in labeling the use of another person who decided to break the law and kill someone they would ask but instead you are getting in their way. Stop trying to defend yourself and others and remember “The Goverment giveth and the Goverment taketh away” If you die in one of these situations then it must of been your time and the Goverment will use your death to further their goals of depriving others of their right to self defense. One day we will all be safe to die for our goverment without the thought of helping someone else to remain safe and alive. You just need to know that all death is because of guns (knives, hammers, bricks, ropes, two by four boards and rocks) if we only make these illegal then only criminals will have them. We know all criminals are careful to follow the law!

Dissentnow says, “You can not deny that the left benefits when children die because of shootings.”

That’s an odd statement dissent. So whenever there’s a mass murder with semiautomatic guns, and we wonder how we can stop those tragedies, that’s an example of “the left benefiting?” When Timothy McViegh – wearing his “don’t tread on me” t-shirt blew up a building and killed 150 people, laws were put in place to prevent people for ordering a truckload of fertilizer without being able to identify themselves and justify their need. Is that the “the left benefiting?” No, that is society trying to keep terrorists from getting weapons that serve no other purpose than to kill lots of people very quickly.

Most Americans, even most NRA members support universal background checks. Yes, there may be more liberals that support that policy than conservatives, but most Americans support it, even more so after a tragedy.

Do you want to know who really benefits when brains and blood get splattered against the walls with AR-15s? Gun manufacturers, Their business skyrockets when blood flows and people start talking about gun control. But one example from this very website: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2012/12/24/worlds-largest-gun-supplier-claims-it-sold-3-5-years-worth-of-ar-15-magazines-in-3-days/

No, Send. The left benefits because they use the deaths of those children to push their agenda forward. That is how they benefit. Their agenda is advanced. None of the gun laws or gun bans that they are proposing will stop another one of these shootings. The overwhelming majority of gun-related violence is committed by gangbangers. Do you really think that the bloods, crips, and latin kings are going to abide by any of Feinstein’s gun laws?

I will grant the GOP leadership is somewhat like this, but the people, no. Real conservatives AND libertarians both want GOOD government, with limited powers. “I will grant the GOP leadership is somewhat like this, but the people, no. Real conservatives AND libertarians both want GOOD government, with limited powers”

No! The GOP leadership is exactly like that. How many in the GOP had no problem with spending us into oblivion fighting wars that we he had no business fighting or spending countless amounts of our treasure on an interventionist foreign policy that has caused us far more harm than it has done good?
Those same GOP’ers magically found their inner-fiscal conservative as soon as Obama was elected.
The “people” are just as bad. As a libertarian, i remember having countless conversations with my conservative friends and family members and all of them had no problem with the patriot act, domestic spy programs, or warrantless wiretapping. They all, pretty much, said the same thing: “If you aint got nothing to hide, then you aint got nothing to worry about”. Now that Obama is in power, those same people fly the gadsden flag and talk about being constitutionalists.
You are right about the liberals, though. Ever since Obama came to power they have no problem with war, arming rebels, drone missile strikes that kill hundreds and hundreds of innocent women and children, domestic spy programs, the patriot act, the NDAA, and warrantless wiretapping.
In short, both parties are complete hypocrites.

You are the epitome of stupid, you say that Bhengazi was an example of Republicans using a tragedy to further their agenda? How the hell is trying to get the full story of why the President and all his minions are lying about the death of an ambassador trying to further their agenda. Your idiot messiah and all his little cronies said for 2 weeks that the attack was a result of a spontaneous demonstration by normal everyday Libyans because of a stupid freaking video even though they had real time video of the attack in progress. I take it by your comment that you condone this kind of behavior, I guess in your book it is ok for everyone from the president on down to lie and cover up the gun running operation that they had going on in Libya. You are a freaking moron, and an extremely stupid one if you think anything that the libs have proposed as far as gun control will do anything to curb violence, it was never intended to curb violence, its only intention was to take away rights from law abiding citizens and to chip away at the second amendment of the constitution.

Anyone involved in the suspension should be fired. The shooter needs to spend some time with ‘Bubba’. And the rest of the students should have joined the suspension leave the school empty for a few days.
Too the young man that took the gun away, it is a noble and brave act that you have done to put yourself in harms way for others, I am sure there are others who thank you, it is not every day that a student gets the chance to teach the stupid people that are in charge of teaching the student.

I don’t understand what the issue is. Of course the student should not have taken the gun away from a potential killer. That is the responsibility of the police to protect us just like the gun banners frequently tell us. No one needs a gun to protect himself, especially if there is a scissors or ball point pen nearby. And if the scissors is not available, the police will be there immediately to protect everyone. Consistent with the gun banners thinking, the hero student was obviously at fault and should be permanently banned from school.

That kind of thinking could be contagious to other students. They might decide to defend themselves too instead of waiting for the goverment to come save them. Remember that the religion of goverment says if you die while you are waiting for the goverment to come to your rescue then you were meant to die as a martyr to show to others why they need to have higher taxes so that “we could save everyone”. Remember people don’t kill people guns (knives, rocks, ropes, bricks, boards, and hammers) kill people. If we could get rid of guns and only the goverment and its agents only had guns then we would all be safe. Thus said the Nazi’s just before they registered all guns and their owners address. How has it come to be that they people charged with educating our kids are some of the dumbest, most liberal wimps in our country?

You do know that not every teacher or administrator is a liberal puke, right? 50 % of liberal puke whites voted for jugears. Does that make you a liberal puke?

      @paul
Nobody is truly proud of being stupid, some people just don’t want to be considered smart.

Smart takes work and means reading and learning, and not just stuff that supports what you already think, it also means you gotta open up to other points of view…you have to be curious. There are a ton of books on intelligence and entire fields of study that try to explain/enhance/augment intelligence.
