Mitch McConnell Fires Back After Progressive Group Targets Asian Wife With Racist Attack

(TheBlaze/AP) — Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell lambasted a liberal group on Saturday for criticizing the Asian heritage of his wife, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, calling its Twitter messages “racial slurs” and “the ultimate outrage.”

“They will not get away with attacking my wife in this campaign,” McConnell told about 100 home-state supporters at a Republican dinner in Winchester.

“This woman has the ear of @McConnellPress – she’s his #wife,” the group Kentucky Progress tweeted on Feb. 14. “May explain why your job moved to #China!”

McConnell forcefully defended Chao, who was born in Taiwan and who moved to the U.S. as an 8-year-old with her family aboard a freight ship.

“Elaine Chao is just as much an American as any of the rest of them,” McConnell said. “In fact, she had to go through a lot more to become an American.”

McConnell’s aides had already criticized the tweets.

“Secretary Chao and her family are shining examples of the American dream: salt-of-the-earth folks who escaped oppression, came here with nothing, joined our great melting pot, worked exceptionally hard to build a thriving business, and then dedicated so much of their lives to giving back,” said Jesse Benton, manager of McConnell’s re-election campaign. “It is unconscionable that anyone would use blatant race-baiting for political gain.”

Progress Kentucky removed the offending comments from Twitter after Louisville public radio station WFPL-FM aired reports about them. They have also apologized for what they described as “inappropriate tweets sent by our organization.”

“Those tweets did not reflect our values, and we are committed to making sure nothing like that happens again,” executive director Shawn Reilly said in a statement posted on the group’s website. “We also apologize to our many supporters, and all Kentuckians working for change in 2014, for those communications. Comments with references to race, ethnicity or sexual orientation have no place in any debate, and we are deeply embarrassed by such a mistake.”

Reilly said the volunteer who posted the comments no longer is affiliated with the group.

Criticism of the group wasn’t limited to McConnell and his supporters. Numerous Democratic leaders, including actress Ashley Judd, who is considering a challenge to McConnell in next year’s election, spoke up, too.

“Whatever the intention, whatever the venue, whomever the person, attacks or comments on anyone’s ethnicity are wrong & patently unacceptable,” she wrote in a Twitter message last Sunday.

Kentucky Democratic Party Chairman Dan Logsdon said the comments were “deplorable” and “have absolutely no place” in Kentucky politics.

But McConnell and his wife have faced similar slights in the past. In 2001, former state Democratic Party chairwoman Nikki Patton apologized for saying that McConnell “passed up some good Kentucky pork to chow down at the Chinese money buffet.”

The most eye catching phrase of this article is the news that Ashley Judd is thinking of running for McConnell’s Senate Seat……Ashley Judd is a beautiful woman but she is a big time liberal. While I believe that career politicians need to be sent home, I hope the people of KY can see through Ashley’s beauty and lack of a brain.

  My contempt has noting to do with Obama’s skin color or “nation” of origin. It is based in the facts that he is destroying this county by his actions and lack of respect for the Rule of Law (including that pesky little law that requires the President to be a native born citizen). In contrast, Sec. Chao respected the Rule of Law and faithfully served her adopted country during her tenure. Take your race baiting and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

  It absloutely amazes me that the Kool-Aid drinking minorities in this country cannot see that most of the racist or biased comments in the news come from so-called Progressives. Sure there are stupid comments made by ignorant Yahoos on the right, (there’s one in every family), but the vast majority come from the left. They have been taught their whole life that the Liberals are on their side when in actuallity they would still be slaves or hiding in the shadows if it hadn’t been for Lincoln in 1865, (a Republican), & Congressional Republicans passing the Civil Rights act for Johnson. Now the Democrats come along with all this free stuff and they believe that the Democrats are their saviours. Well the free stuff is about to run out & we will soon see who the takers blame, the Republicans, Tea Party, etc, without a doubt.   I wouldn’t count on that. Why do you think they are trying to disarm you? One of the voting blocks of liberals is the criminal element, they don’t register their guns. Another voting block is hollywood, they have “prop guns” – right props, they also have heavy security. I suggest everyone read a book Beck suggested about a year ago “How to Kill One Million People”, it is only about 75 pages but it is the most telling book I’ve every read. Then read another book Beck suggested it is a little blue book. Maybe Beck will talk about them again. The solution isn’t clear but civil war is not the answer.

  Actually the only people who see the difference between fascists and socialists are fascists and socialists. Anyone who disagrees with a socialist is a fascist and vice versa. They are only arguing semantics. Since neither one thinks human beings can run their own lives, they see no middle ground between them. It’s either or. An objective observer, being neither fascist or socialist, would look at them and say they are the same thing – two bullies on opposite sides of the same end of the ideological street, arguing over who should run things.   I watched SNL tonight and it was pretty funny……I actually laughed which I haven’t in a while after watching that show…….But they brought up the Southern Law about voting and they had to drill that one into us…..I know SNL needs to be equal opportunity offenders……But I think I watched enough commercials make the typical white dad look like an idiot over the years, while the mom looked like the savior and still some today…..But most of the whits dads I know are private pilots which takes a bit of skill…..While some of the black dads I know are hanging out at the local bar or night club…(not all black men)…The End

  One of the best examples I have ever seen on a television show, that show-cased this very behavior was ‘Everyone loves Raymond’. At first when I watched it it appeared to be funny ,then I noticed how the affect it had on most women that I knew that watched this show. Now after over a decade of parroting the same message.

This is why Harry Reid tables any substantive bill the House passes, and every budget. The Lefts tolerance is the tolerance of expediency; the tolerance of Conservatives is the tolerance of principle. This makes compromise with the left tenuous at best.

Not their platform? Not what they stand for? That is laughable… Democrat Party was, is and will always be the party of the Klan. The Republican Party was formed by blacks and anti slavery whites to go against the Pro-slavery democrat platform. Liberals are near exclusively democrats so this comes as no surprise. They are the party of hate and while they bleat constantly for “fairness” and “tolerance” they are the least tolerant and least fair of all. I pity them as they are nothing more than feral humans.

Of course, the liberals have a history with those of asian ancestry. After all, FDR is the Liberallytarded hero[Particularly Obama's with the New Deal etc] and if you will recall, this DEMOCRAT HERO rounded up all the Japanese during WWII and sent them to concentration camps here in the USA in 1942 [110,000 of them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_American_internment ] with the blessings of the SCOTUS.

Today’s admin. is causing over 50% unemployment within the black teen population, but the Repubs are the racists.   Usually, and I found this out in my first marriage, when someone accuses you of something, they in fact are doing it themselves. (in my case it was adultery that I was accused of, and my ex was the one sleeping around).

Looking back at just before prohibition got passed, womens groups became friends with the wifes of congressmen to get the wifes to also support the vote to forbid alcohol.

  Elaine Chao is from Taiwan. Not all Chinese are happy with the communist takeover of China nor the continued rule of the current cabal (oligarchy). To suspect is one thing. To state that all Chinese support the PRC is quite another.

  Your link is bad… It makes it sound like people can sue you for hunting.. Which the bill does not cover! The animal in question must be under the possession of the accused.. so it just involves pets. And they can only be sued for a violation of chapter 272 sections 77-80.. which essentially includes common animal cruelty.. torture, starvation, neglect, mutilation, or selling or working unfit or disabled animals… its not near as over reaching as your link would lead you to believe..
