10 Surprising Celebrity Endorsements for ‘The Bible’ — The Epic TV Series Premiering Tonight
“The Bible,” a new series that will premiere on the History Channel Sunday night (9 p.m. ET), continues to gain the attention of Christians and non-Christians alike. But one of the most fascinating elements about it — a five-week program that will expose viewers to 10 hours of Biblical reenactments (two hours each Sunday) — are the celebrity endorsements it has received.
From singer Christina Aguilera to “Glee” star Jane Lynch, Hollywood Twitter accounts are abuzz with messages about “The Bible,” a project that was created and produced by famed reality show producer Mark Burnett and his wife, actress Roma Downey (see the duo discuss the project on TheBlaze TV last week).
On the one hand, these endorsements are surprising. After all, this is Hollywood — an industry stereotypically uninterested in matters of faith. But on the other, Burnett and Downey are power players who have a plethora of friends and contacts in the industry. These individuals respect their work and are likely supporting “The Bible” as a result.
Regardless of the reasoning, it’s worth noting who’s helping to spread the word. Here are 10 of the most surprising names and Twitter messages:
–
“Glee” star Jane Lynch:
–
Singer Christina Aguilera:
–
Rapper P. Diddy:
–
Singer Nick Lachey:
–
Psychic John Edward:
–
The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson:
–
Actress and Wife of Kiss Front Man Gene Simmons, Shannon Tweed:
–
Maroon 5 Singer Adam Levine:
–
Reality Star Kate Gosselin:
–
Singer Shakira:
–
There are certainly some surprising names on that list. Others who were more unsurprising enthusiasts include former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and pastors Joel Osteen and Rick Warren.
For more information about “The Bible,” visit the official web site. To see Burnett and Downey discuss the show in detail, read TheBlaze’s past coverage.

The answer to that is, you can’t. Ill follow after those that have actually preached and followeed the Word of God. Like Billy Graham. Not some liberal nut who reads the Bible out of context. I might tune in for a second to see how many lies that tell, but I can’t promise Ill watch the whole thing. I can only handle so many lies. Its bad enough getting constant lies from the White House.

Posted on March 3, 2013 at 3:00pm“this is Hollywood — an industry stereotypically uninterested in matters of faith.” I don’t think this is very accurate.. There are tons of movies with religious sentiments! at least every year a few come out.
theres Crash, Passion of the Christ, Doubt, Life of Pi, Gates of Heaven, Vanilla Sky, Waking Life, A.I., Ghost in the Shell, Gattaca, Brothers Keeper, Phenomenon, Signs, Devil, (actually most M. Night Shyamalan movies) Dogma, The Priest, Last Temptation of Christ, Stigmata, the Da Vinci code, City of Angels,The Matrix, Jesus Christ Super Star, Star Wars, The Book of Eli, Children of Men, and literally hundreds more.. All these movies depict faith, some positive, some negative, some just questioning. Religion is an incredibly interesting topic that leaves a huge footprint on society. To say hollywood is uninterested in these matters is ridiculous! They are very interested! don’t believe me? Go to block buster!

Add “The Matrix” to that list, It’s an Easter movie. It even came out on Good Friday.
Watch it again.
Much of it is symbolic. For instance room 303, right before Neo is crucified and comes back to life (through the breadth of the Trinity no less) is a symbolic nod to 3 days and 3 nights.
It even ends with the savior ascending into heaven.
The movie has Judas, John the Baptist, and yes even Jesus.
If you never knew The Matrix was a Christian movie watch it again, it’ll blow your mind. It’s like the story of Jesus told into the times of today; like what was done with Romeo and Juliet.
Note: I am in no way referring to the sequels, just the first one.

Posted on March 3, 2013 at 9:16pmYeah, durn liberals. I want to hear the part where Jesus says the job of a country is to help the rich and that it’s a crime against God to for a country to help their own poor.
I that the Lord sayeth, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.” Deuteronomy 15:11
But when He said “I command you” what he really meant was that it was, you know, voluntary.
The Bible is clear: a country as a whole should support the rich and cut their taxes. The good Lord was clear on that. Jesus also thought, although didn’t say outright, that poor people were “takers” and “moochers” and “lazy,” just as Ayn Rand did, and just as you do. Jesus, although poor himself, was all about letting the poor suffer the consequences of being lazy bums. He thought that if a individual wanted to give to them, fine, but he wasn’t about to command them to do so, despite Deuteronomy 15:11.

Combined with V for Vendetta, another Wachowski movie, it’s not debatable. Please please consider this before telling anyone else Matrix is a Christian movie.

that is a real interesting statement. that only the those who have ‘actually preached and followed the word of God’ can be an ‘expert’ on a tradition. christian blazers seem to consider themselves experts on judaism, islam, buddhism, native american religious traditions and a whole host of other organized religious phenomena. if we follow your own logic then only someone who actually preached and followed the word of the Qur’an is an acceptable source of information concerning Islam. are you comfortable with your own logic being applied to other faith-based religious traditions?

Posted on March 3, 2013 at 12:06pmI highly suggest the films/docs below to compliment The Bible series these next few weeks. There are so many amazing flicks out there now that prove God’s existence; the ones below are just a few ones that stand out in my mind on short notice.
http://youtu.be/jZn5qo6Q6IY The Mysterious Islands

http://youtu.be/AUpHyZjm3rU A Question of Origins
http://www.youshallbelieve.com/?page_id=483 Science Tests Faith
Mysterious Islands follows a team that retraces the exact steps Darwin took to the Galapagos.Islands and views it through a 21st century lens to point out all of his errors. They also do a bio on Darwin which explains what made him invent this theory. The Case for a Creator is Lee Strobel who was an atheist who set out to “disprove” The Bible but ended up converting to Christianity. Lastly, A Question of Orgins goes step by step dismantling Evolution piece by piece. I also encourage everyone to view: A Case for Faith, The Darwin Dilemma, Dinosaurs or Dragons, Crescendo the movie (Justin Beiber’s mom), Startling Proofs, The Privileged Planet, 12 Biggest Lies, Science Tests Faith. No one can watch all these and still doubt.

Is this how Christ would address the leftists in Hollywood? Yeah, they live lives of unrighteousness against God’s truth; but if God was not willing to totally abandon Nineveh, commanding Jonah to preach against their unrighteousness, why should we condemn them? If Hollywood is embracing what Mark Burnett and Roma Downey has done, maybe this is a seed being planted that will result in a harvest of righteousness.

2 TIMOTHY 4 : 2-4
Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

Posted on March 3, 2013 at 7:29pmI like Hoot_Owl’s comments here. Correcting and defending, defending and correcting, but being appropriately critical when someone makes an honest stab at getting the message right. The message for moral behavior illuminated by Christ and by over 2,000 years of “youthful” practice have set the foundation, the stage, for all of modern technology. And is it therefore a surprise that the dark corners where Christ’s message fails to penetrate, those are the places today where serious worry now threatens all of mankind? As we begin to open bridges to other dimensions, as we send messages to unknown worlds in space, as we garner simple technologies that allow the innocent to split worlds, what rules should be in place, and what limits should shackle man to prevent mayhem? The Bible offers great insight. Faith, on the other hand, as the Bible says, is a gift.

Good question…. One you should have asked Pelosi and Co. when they were saying “We have to pass the (PPACA) so you can find out what is in it.”

What she is normally quoted as saying, “We have to pass the bill to find out what is in it.”
If that were her actual quote, that would indeed be dumb.
What she actually said was more along the lines of, “We have to pass the bill to find out what is in it, away from the fog of the media.”
Again, not a great statement, but it’s not nearly as bad as the first one.

Seems the network has taken a hard left in the last few years. When you have Van Jones, Al Sharpton, and Henry Louis Gates providing expert commentary on civil rights, you know it’s time to turn on The Walking Dead!

My only question about the series is, is it accurate? I’ve seen so many revisionist versions of history lately, that I don’t have high expectations. Especially since history channel aired a program about cults recently & referred to Christianity as one of the oldest. I haven’t watched that channel since then.

Judges 16:13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven LOCKS of my head with the web.
19 And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven LOCKS of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
If a black person doesn’t cut or comb their **** it will eventually Lock together (This is why they are called “LOCKS”). Samson NEVER CUT HIS ****, he let it grow and it was left “unkempt” and it grew into locks…. aka “dreadlocks”
If Samson the Israelite was white…. his **** would have grown straight and long, but not lock together. The scriptures says he had 7 locks, it is very rare for a white person to get dreadlocks naturally.

-Your definition of ‘locks’ to justify a ‘colored Samson’ is just plain silly-
Locks of ****, tresses of ****, were unique to anybody with long ****- your usage of ‘dreadlocks’ actually disproves your premise- it was the ‘kind’ of locks he had,
Not sure why you would make this a racial thing, the book of
Judges said he was defending the Hebrews against the Philistines, and the book of Hebrews chronicles his faith- but your descrip. of ‘locks’ is way off the mark
By the way, Samson was olive skinned, as
was
all his kin- and he just so happened to have long curly tresses

Posted on March 3, 2013 at 12:56pmHi JOHN… i didn’t make it a racial thing. Ray did by expressing outrage at Samson being portrayed by an “African”.
The assumption that everyone in the bible was somehow white drives me bananas because it’s just not feasible.
To the best of my knowledge, the only physical description of Samson referenced his stature and ****…. though many others are called “olive” or “copper” so your description makes sense. I just wanted to put forth the suggestion of his being black mostly to bust Ray’s balls.

One’s skin color does not determine whether one’s **** is straight or curly. In any given race and culture, there are people that have varying levels of curl in their ****. Aguilera was raised by a Catholic Dad and Mom that converted to Mormonism (before divorcing) and she’s married to a jewish guy.
Gosselin’s Dad is a Pastor and her Mom was Jewish.
P. Diddy went to Catholic Schools his whole life.
… and Lachey married Jessica Simpson… who remained a virgin for religious reasons until their wedding night.

This threshold must be addressed with reasoning.
I stand in the circle of agreeing with the programing
as long as it is accurate, which leads to the rub. IS
IT ACCURATE and by whose mental state of reasoning?
I also wonder if many of those in favor, those that have made
adamant announcements cutting against the grain of
godliness, are only supportive because it provides another
waffle for the weak minded to feed on.
Straddling the fence is the absolute worst position to hold when
it involves God’s Word. Be careful folks, until this is proven NOT
to be another wolf in sheep’s clothing watch with caution!
Satan has a counterfeit for everything that is godly and even a
foothold can provide an intolerable flame.

Not a lack of faith.
Rather a lack of trust and reliability until proven.
These guys call themselves “Family Friendly”, however,
a track record of ungodliness, (i.e. Survivor, Shark Tank)
speaks a different language.
Compare graphics and especially audio (i.e. cursing, swearing
and arguments) to wholesome television when logic was black
and white. And I’m not talking about the color of the broadcast
but the content of the character.
I am fluent on the Bible and know there are very frightening
events such as beheadings, cannibalism, murder, sex,
betrayal and a vast array of oddities. However, those stories
are there for a purpose and not really meant as entertainment.
It’s a slippery slope at best. Will it lead beings to the cross or
away from the cross… that is the question!

If a person does not believe this ‘seed’ then i suppose any ensuing story will be nonsense as well. The critics will come out from all corners, the famous will ride the coat-tails of popular opinion so their alleged spirituality will increase, and the scoffer will scoff- but know this: God uses the most foolish of machinery to accomplish his purposes, even film, and even misfits such as you and I….
