(TheBlaze/AP) — Vice president Joe Biden and black leaders commemorating a famous civil rights march Sunday said efforts to diminish the impact of African-American votes haven’t stopped in the years since the 1965 Voting Rights Act added millions to Southern voter rolls.

More than 5,000 people followed Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma’s annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee.

The event commemorates the “Bloody Sunday” beating of voting rights marchers – including a young Lewis – by state troopers as they began a march to Montgomery in March 1965. The 50-mile march prompted Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act that struck down impediments to voting by African-Americans and ended all-white rule in the South.

Biden, the first sitting vice president to participate in the annual re-enactment, said nothing shaped his consciousness more than watching TV footage of the beatings.

“We saw in stark relief the rank hatred, discrimination and violence that still existed in large parts of the nation,” he said.

Biden said marchers “broke the back of the forces of evil,” but that challenges to voting rights continue today with restrictions on early voting and voter registration drives and the enactment of voter ID laws.

“We will never give up or give in,” Lewis told marchers.

Jesse Jackson said Sunday’s event had a sense of urgency because the U.S. Supreme Court heard a request Wednesday by what they AP describes as “a mostly white Alabama county” to strike down a key portion of the Voting Rights Act.

“We’ve had the right to vote 48 years, but they’ve never stopping trying to diminish the impact of the votes,” Jackson said.

Referring to the Voting Rights act, the Rev. Al Sharpton said: “We are not here for a commemoration. We are here for a continuation.”

The Supreme Court is weighing Shelby County’s challenge to a portion of the law that requires states with a history of racial discrimination, mostly in the Deep South, to get approval from the Justice Department before implementing any changes in election laws. That includes everything from new voting districts to voter ID laws.

Attorneys for Shelby County argued that the pre-clearance requirement is outdated in a state where one-fourth of the Legislature is black. But Jackson predicted the South will return to gerrymandering and more at-large elections if the Supreme Court voids part of the law.

Attorney General Eric Holder, the defendant in Shelby County’s suit, told marchers that the South is far different than it was in 1965 but is not yet at the point where the most important part of the voting rights act can be dismissed as unnecessary.

Martin Luther King III, whose father led the march when it resumed after Bloody Sunday, said, “We come here not to just celebrate and observe but to recommit.”

One of the NAACP attorneys who argued the case, Debo Adegbile, said when Congress renewed the Voting Rights Act in 2006, it understood that the act makes sure minority inclusion is considered up front.

“It reminds us to think consciously about how we can include all our citizens in democracy. That is as important today as it was in 1965,” he said.

Joe Biden told the massive crowd: “Forty-eight years after all that you did, and we are still fighting in 2011, ’12 and ’13…”

“What you all did here 48 years ago changed the hearts and the minds of the vast majority of the American people. That’s why I am absolutely convinced we will win in this new fight in regard to voter access and voting rights,” he added.

It is amazing that poster boy JFK voted against the civil rights, hated Martin Luther King, Jr; the KKK were all democrats and the democrats support crimes of passion crimes – murdering – women who opposed their husbands. Yet, despite all this blacks and women support the liberal agenda. Wake up? The democrats did the killings in Selma. They supplied the roped, fire and bullets.

He’s the one who dipped his pee pee into someone not his wife, had a child, stole charitable money out of his Rainbow Coalition to keep the lady quiet, but his wife found out anyway, and then so did all of America. And Holder’s people let him in their parade? I mean is this a man for our youth to look up to? What a true shame. But wait, what about the right reverend Sharpton? He’s a hero, yes? Didn’t he fight for our country? No? Well, how the heck did he become a hero? What a bunch of losers, Biden (the plagerist, Jesse (the adulterer – and worse) and Al (the lying shill for Tawanda), and yet here they are, being praised for having regular bowel movements.

Smilin’ Joe should try a Civil War Reenactment next… he could carry a shotgun… fire a couple blasts into the air to scare off those damn yankees.

I’m waiting to hear his quote about how that’s what spawned the creation of his boss… except that that was a lie. Good to know Joe’s so comfortable with them, it won’t even make him hesitate before he offers some nearly blue description that if spoken by a GOP politician would get that man or woman roasted alive by the MSM.

Slema was important in getting national recognition that yes, we are all created equal and mistreatment based on color creed culture or sex should not be tolerated.

Funny that in the years since the law has been used to create protected classes… i thought that’s what the whole argument opposed!

Absolutely Ray, MLK, Jr did not see color, nor did he want to be treated any differently than whites, but that aint what he got…Yes the Democrats of that time ruled the South…and those carpet-bagging Republicans ruled the land of the Yankees…Guess the blacks were too dumb to change their political party to repugnants, so the repugnants changed to the dimwits…it has just been in my generation that the South has flipped to a majority repugnant ruling class…my parents would never vote repug, because of the memories of the carpet-baggers after the Civil War…But what I don’t understand, every last one of those folks yelling against voter ID’s, have one…they have to have one to get Section 8 housing, EBT card, Medicaid card, and welfare…and now that they have openy admitted to voting early and voting often in Ohio, they surely don’t want to produce an ID, and that is what is going on now…that is the fight that Shelby Cty has brought before the scotus…

So how long we going to be reenacting the whole “struggle”?
FIFTY freekin YEARS ago. HALF a STINKIN CENTURY and they are STILL looking for whitey to blame.
    Grow UP people!
You understand the problem. Very soon now the ONLY people with DIRECT EXPERIENCE with “segregation” are going to be either in the Graveyard or the Nursing Home in Diapers.
So WITHOUT these “reenactments” very soon they won’t be able to keep the Myth of America the Still Racist alive.
The other point to this little Morality Play was that States are finally closing some of the more heinous FRAUD loop holes.
As far as I’m concerned everybody in that March should have had “I DEMAND TO CHEAT YOU” in 10 foot letters of flame above their ugly heads.

It’s easy to have a dialog but posting on a blog is something I’m not use to doing in this one respect. I know things very few have ever figured out. It’s so damn easy I can see how it’s over looked and the trolls will zoom in on my topic and try to over shadow it. I just need to figure out how to present it here. You will know very soon the other aspects of this. Changes are already in place. It’s so simple… even a caveman could understand it. LOL

Seriously, I’m going to cut loose and let the World know. It’s coming very soon. I just need to figure out how to post it in a “static” media.

      You be the judge, Marine.
Bloody Sunday (Irish: Domhnach na Fola) was a day of violence in Dublin on 21 November 1920, during the Irish War of Independence. In total, 31 people were killed – fourteen British, fourteen Irish civilians and three republican prisoners.
The day began with an Irish Republican Army (IRA) operation to assassinate the Cairo Gang, a team of undercover British agents working and living in Dublin. Twelve were British Army officers, one a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary and the last a civilian informant.
Later that afternoon the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) opened fire on the crowd at a Gaelic football match in Croke Park, killing fourteen civilians. That evening, three IRA suspects in Dublin Castle were beaten and killed by their captors, allegedly while trying to escape.

Some struggles for Liberty are more costly than others.
This, among many reasons, is why I don’t think I owe “the blacks” a d amn thing.

These people are so Dam Sick! Why would you want to re enact “Bloody Sunday” and “beatings?” Stop bringing up the past and move on you sickos! You people are just so dam sick! Stay in your dam houses and stop bringing up awful sh%t. Solve the current problems and stop your “F” ing marching! Is that all you dam people can do is march? Just a bunch of sick fools always marching for this and marching for that. Do you think the American people give a dam? We don’t! You all obviously are doing pretty good right now aren’t you? You look fed. Well dressed. But, you will USE any excuse to make yourselves and others feed bad. Well guess what? We don’t feel bad. About a dam thing. YOU feel bad. So keep feeling bad. We are so OVER all this sh%t. You can’t MANIPULATE the American People with this bull sh%t any more!

It was also reported the Joe was dissappointed that they wouldn’t let him work the firehoses, and his KKK outfit he brought wasn’t such a big hit. He was quoted as saying “Hey Man, they said this is a reenactment, and I bought this just for it, come on man, I thought they wanted to be authentic. Next week I am going to go to a Penn State shower rape reenactment, I hope they let me wear my schoolboy outfit.”

What other historical reenactments would the media like to exploit? Selma was scar on our history as were many other events that have nothing to do with racial division. And why is a white guy marching in Selma somehow “moving”?

Biden said marchers “broke the back of the forces of evil,” but that challenges to voting rights continue today with restrictions on early voting and voter registration drives and the enactment of voter ID laws.

      @RAWMILKER
…and don’t forget that there is absolutely NO right to vote in a Presidental election set forth in the Constitution. We do have electorates, but they don’t seem to understand that either, so…
