‘Tragedy Beyond’ Belief: Expectant Couple Killed on Their Way to the Hospital, But Their Baby Survives

NEW YORK (TheBlaze/AP) — A young couple who had taken a car service to a hospital for the birth of their first child were killed en route in a hit and run early Sunday, but their baby boy survived, born prematurely, authorities and a neighbor said.

Nathan and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were killed early Sunday, but their newborn infant survived. (Image source: NY1)

The driver of a BMW slammed into the car carrying Nathan and Raizy Glauber, both 21, at an intersection in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, said Isaac Abraham, a neighbor of Raizy Glauber’s parents who lives two blocks from the scene of the crash. Both of the Glaubers were pronounced dead at hospitals, police said.

Their infant son was in serious condition at a hospital, said Abraham, and the driver of their car was in stable condition, police said.

Both the driver of the vehicle that hit the couple’s car and a passenger fled and are being sought, police said.

The Glaubers were Orthodox Jews, and Abraham often speaks publicly for the different sects in the ultra-orthodox community, which has strict rules governing clothing, social customs and interaction with the outside world. Men wear dark clothing that includes a long coat and a fedora-type hat and often have long beards and ear locks.

Abraham called the couple’s death “a tragedy beyond (belief) just coming off a joyous holiday as Purim” as they were getting ready to welcome their first child.

They had been married less than a year, family member Barry Sekate told told NY1 News.

“This baby will be well taken care of. It’s a large family, a community,” Abraham told the station. “This baby unfortunately will have to grow up and find out at a later date it has no parents.”

Brooklyn is home to the largest community of ultra-orthodox Jews outside Israel, more than 250,000.

I live in Brooklyn and have no doubt the killer will be caught.
Harder if the car was stolen, but there will be plenty of evidence in the car,
    If they don’t burn it.

This is a terrible tragedy, but it is wonderful that this couple’s little boy survived. I hope he continues to get stronger, thrives, and lives a great life. Yes; this little sweetheart will be without his biological parents. However; hopefully, he will be scooped right up into extended family and have a full and happy life. Orthodox Jews are so fascinating.

Interesting to see the pure arrogance of some people giving ultimatums to God. “If God really loved us why does he allow suffering?” He doesn’t cause suffering; people do because of the things they do. Demanding that God stop something bad from occurring or cater to our whims to pass “tests” to prove his existence is the ultimate lack of faith. You bow down to God; don’t expect him to bow down to you.

WOW!, now THAT is a Bad Day….notice the Semi in the picture….notice how the one car slammed into and sheared the top of the other car….God had nothing to do with this…Bad Driving did…….maybe that semi driver helped…maybe he caused it, I was not there and do not know for sure, but I know God had nothing to do with that even with the Jewish aspect….Bad habits produce unfavorable results.

None of your responses on this story had a single shred of compassion for the deaths of the these people.

It is clear that you are an atheist which is your free will choice. I don’t know if you believe death is an off/on switch with nothing after or if you believe in joining some cosmic unity. Doesn’t matter. What is also clear that you have no compassion as a functioning human being living in a civilized society.

How is He to be blamed for ramming a vehicle into another? He does not direct humans like machines, it was not His fault- but scorners will scorn-

To all my fellow blazers, especially those who come up with the why god does or doesn’t stop things. Two of my granddaughters lost both their grandfathers in 10 months to cancer. They asked why. I had a small embriodery in my hand I had done by the side of my dying mthers bed, and it was upside down as I was re-framing it. I asked them what they saw. They said grandma, it lookes like colored strings. I turned it over-it said “I am a child of God”, easy to read on that side. I explained that while we see strings of color in our lives, God knows the true pattern, and He is the one who is truely in charge. I do not for a second think this accident was caused by anything but the stupid foolishment of men, NOT God. He will be there for this family, and this young couple are with Him. This child will be raised by those who love him and I pray justice is done for those who caused tis. We who believe, know this child will know his parents in the future. So I say to all of you who love the Lord, aren’t you glad this life is only a drop in the bucket of eternity?

MOMRULES et al: I don’t know about the rest of you, but it does me good to read notes from brothers and sisters in Christ extolling the wisdom and power of God even in the face of such apparent tragedy. One thing we learn from Job: God does not owe us an explanation for our personal suffering and we seldom get one. But, because we know the person and character of God we can rest in His wisdom, power, and goodness. Meanwhile I pray the life of this child will bring glory to His name.

There have been times when it has taken years and even decades for me to see God’s plan played out but if I am patient I have always found His purpose.

Oh please, nobody start talking about miracles and how great God is. If you assume He had the power to save the baby, then He also had the power to save the couple. But I guess he was too busy helping an athlete train for next season. Some kid recovers from cancer–it was the work of God! Three kids die in an apartment fire–well, there was nothing God could do about it. *eyeroll*

I guess free-will means nothing to you. God can’t save everyone. We are destined to die, some sooner than others at the hands of others and some naturally. This is a tragic accident and from the story I ascertain the driver of the other car was speeding, perhaps in a stolen vehicle. He/she took matters into their own hands and did something stupid, which this couple paid the ultimate price. Sometimes life’s hardest lesson come at the expense of others.

God is like the prime directive in Star Trek. Remember, they generally tried to stay out of the affairs of others, not to interfere. Those who attribute them living through a devastating tragedy to God does not necessarily mean God did intervene; one believes he did. It just was not their time and they were in the right place at the right time. God is here, God is going to stay and whether you believe or not, he will be with those who believe when it is their time.

      I will pray for you.

Manifestations? Like helping rappers win Grammy Awards? Or no, wait, you mean like controlling the tides, which (according to Bill O’Reilly) can only be explained by the existence of God. On the other hand, I’m pretty sure the devil is real–who else would plant those phony dinosaur bones to try to trick us into believing the world is more than 6,000 years old?
