Are Gun Companies Really Moving to Texas?
If Rick Perry has his way, Texas may have to change its nickname from the Lone Star State to the Guns & Ammo State.

In early February, Texas Governor Rick Perry sent a letter to 26 gun and ammunition manufacturers inviting them to move their businesses to his state. Perry also made a 4-day trip to California last month and ran some ads on radio, hoping that a personal appeal might lure business away. California’s Governor Jerry Brown was not impressed with Perry’s efforts and told the news media how he felt about the visit as well as the media’s focus on it.
“It’s not a serious story, guys…you take a little radio ad, all you guys run like lapdogs to report it. It’s not a burp, it’s barely a fart.”
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews played Perry’s radio ad followed by Gov. Brown’s reaction to it.

Initial reports following the California trip seemed to focus on the fact that Gov. Perry did not return with a truckload of pledges from companies looking to move to Texas. However, there are rumblings off in the distance, and the number of gun companies either considering a move to Texas or actually packing up and heading to Lone Star state is increasing.
Last week, TheBlaze reported on the possibility of Maryland-based gun maker Beretta relocating to Texas. There are also indications that Colorado’s Magpul Industries may move to Texas too. Magpul ran the following ad in the local papers, warning of job losses if the new gun bill is passed in their state.

Image: Magpul Industries
If Beretta and Magpul decide pull up stakes and head to Texas, they won’t be the first company on the gun business to do this. Late last month, Shield Tactical (a firearms accessory manufacturer and training company) announced plans to move its entire operation to Shiner, Texas. From Shield Tactical’s Facebook page:
Shield Tactical is pleased to announce that we are moving our retail division to Shiner, Texas. We are pleased to have neighbors such as TBRC and the Spoetzl Brewery (home of Shiner Beer). Shipping etc will not be substantially affected.
Our training division will remain in CA until the legislature outlaws everything.
When the company went public with news of the move, it was immediately welcomed by Texas Governor Rick Perry and many members of the pro-Second Amendment community on Facebook.

Image: Facebook
TheBlaze spoke with Shield Tactical’s president, John Harrington just a few days after he arrived in Shiner, TX. His company, which manufactures custom “uppers” for a variety of weapons and also does a substantial business in firearms training is getting a “great reception” by the locals. Harrington told us, “Everyone from the gas station attendant to the sheriff has made us feel welcome.”
Curious to learn if Shield Tactical can expect company from other gun makers, we reached out to Governor Perry’s office and asked for an update. While no specifics were mentioned, through a spokesperson, Perry’s office replied:
Gov. Perry has sent letters and also personally reached out to firearm manufacturers in states that are considering changing their regulations of the industry. He is always looking to tell Texas’ story of reasonable and predictable regulations, low taxes and fair courts to make sure companies know they have another option if their state is implementing policies that may harm job creation.
TheBlaze will continue to monitor companies on the Governor’s list of 26 special invitees, and will update this story as needed.

In the early 90′s Johnson & Johnson moved their corporate head quarters to Arlington Texas from N.J. Because of the Unions they shut down the orginal plant in Chicago. While competing against Proctor & Gambel who had already moved to Mexico thay had no union problems. In 1999 th eplant at Sherman, Texas was closed and 600 folks lost their jobs because the AFLCIO wanted to run the plant.

They will not give up these gov’t contracts, and if Obama tells them that they will not sell to any private entities any longer, and instead they will supply the federal gov’t with all of their firearms for good; then they will obviously greet Obama with open arms. You cannot tell me any different. Sure, they make quality firearms, except they seek to arm the very people who wouold actually use them against its citizens, and these guns will then truly become “assault weapons” in the hands of the fed.
DO NOT BUY COLT! By doing so you only quicken your demise.

and some of us imports moved to TX from CA because we needed to get out and saw the mountain of socialist coming…I mourn and weep for my home state and all her beauty, history, resources, and people that can’t relocate.
and from what I have seen of Texans in the last two years…there are good and bad and even many that talk a good game but when pushed are just RINO’s in Conservative clothing

Posted on March 5, 2013 at 8:41amOpinion- We have a population that is of Hispanic decent to the tune of about 50%. This is especially true in the southern counties. There are a lot of “anchor babies” coming of age. The vast majority of that 50% are NOT illegal BTW but native to the area, with familial ties pre-dating the Texas Revolution.
We have a high population of hippies and nature buffs, especially in Austin and San Antonio (the Hill Country isn’t that far away) where they like to live in the city and then tell the people who actually live in and farm the HC how they should live green…then there was the movement of the population of New Orleans into Texas during and after Katrina, many/most of whom decided to stay. (see Houston’s crime stats)
Add to all of that, the influx of people from out of state AND COUNTRY with the tech/engineering industry (which is not a recent event) and there you have the dilution of the Independent Native Texas population.

Posted on March 5, 2013 at 8:47am@shamrock. This is the propaganda of the left.. They come out with a big story about 3 weeks ago about turning Texas purple, and all of a sudden its on its way. Not. I was born and raised in Texas and live in east Texas. There is no place more red than east Texas. Now while Austin, Houston, and San Antonio have been liberal voting cities, the tide is beginning to turn back, maybe with Austin being the exception. The fact is no Demo-nazi/communist can get elected to statewide office. Republicans or conservatives hold all statewide offices and a super majority in the house and senate. We are in the process of passing very strong legislation in support of the 2nd amendment and protections for manufacturing of firearms and related accessories. We are also passing laws to strengthen other portions of the constitution and the Texas constitution. It would be difficult for me to relate in this forum all the positives of Texas, so in that regard do your own research. While Texas is not without its problems, as with any state, the positives far outweigh the negatives. For those of you that will bring conservative ideals and principals to our state, you will get a hardy Texas welcome. All others stay where you are. Texas is not a state so much as a state of mind.

Posted on March 5, 2013 at 6:47amI posted a note on Magpul’s website inviting them to move to the ‘Corporate Friendly State’ of Wyoming, and Cheyenne specifically. The information I’ve heard is both Texas and Wyoming are willing to fund the move of Magpul to their respective states. (I love Texas too, spent summers as a child there!) My recommendation is for Wyoming and specifically Cheyenne since we are the home for Warren AFB, WyoANG, and WyoAG. All three branches will be impacted by sequestration, therefore providing a workforce of men and women that are very familiar with their products, and are a strong, disciplined source of potential employees to replace those who choose not to move with the company. Furthermore, those employees whose choose to relocate with their company will deal with less frustration with a 200 to 300 mile move, if Cheyenne is chosen as Magpul’s new home.
But to be honest I would rather see Colorado shut down legislation such has this, since in reality it is legally and morally wrong. Liberals and Democrats are viewing this legislation as a foothold in the previous “stronghold” of western states conservatism.
This is legislation actually is in support of the control of people, (drip by drip, inch by inch) by regulating any additional equipment that gun owners need or want for their firearms.
BTW, go onto the website and read how Magpul was started, it’s impressive.

Those of you engaged in contacting gun makers to stop sales, service etc to gunmakers need to STOP contacting these companies and instead focus your efforts on the ammunition makers. The police and govt have enough weapons what they need is the ammo that these weapons fire. If you havent heard billions of round are being bought drying up the market. We the people should have first dibs on the ammo right now and we don’t.
SO I’m asking folks to please pressure ammo makers to stop fulfilling huge ammo orders by the feds but also the state agencies until the shelves in stores have product on them again. What good is it for anyone here let alone the nation to buy guns if there is no ammo? We need the ammo, its was the FOunders belief that the people should be just as well armed and supplied as the military and by the looks of it the majority isn’t.
Please start contacting all the ammo manufacturers and pressure them to stop supplying the anti-Second Amendment states and federal agencies. The government has enough ammo to fight an Iraqi/Afghan war for 24 years. They have enough ammo to put 5 rounds into every single American. They don’t need anymore we do, so please join me and make this happ

Posted on March 5, 2013 at 12:33amAgreed that there are many out there. The point is: Shall we do business with any that are not on the list?
If you want to make a point, you must make a stand. So, where is your stand?

Posted on March 4, 2013 at 11:49pmIt seems the Colorado stuff is going to pass. Expect Magpul to be the first. And just like the situation beforehand. I think it could trigger a tidalwave. I don’t think some companies are going to wait on the courts OR the legislatures. Hang on people in Texas. you’re about to have some new neighbors.
