Tragic: 12-Year-Old Boy Dead Just Weeks After Suspected Bullying Attack

GLENOLDEN, Pa. (TheBlaze/AP) — A suburban Philadelphia school district is making extra counselors available to students a day after a sixth-grader was taken off life support following injuries suffered in a fight.

Family members say Bailey O’Neill died Sunday morning, a day after he turned 12. The sixth-grader suffered a concussion, broken nose and other injuries in a fight at Darby Township School on Jan. 10. Police said it was a “one-on-one altercation, which was caught on tape.”

Doctors later put him in a medically induced coma after he began having seizures.

On Sunday, the following message was posted to the Building Hope for Bailey Facebook page:

I would like to thank everyone who has prayed and supported Bailey and his family!! Bailey has been the strongest toughest boy I know. He has fought this battle long and hard. There just wasn’t a way to fix this. I wish I could say he will get better but I can’t. Bailey has gone to be with god today

While O’Neill’s family is convinced that he was bullied, school officials and police have “stopped short” of using the term, according to the Huffington Post.

Southeast Delco School District Superintendent Stephen D. Butz says the school sends its condolences to the boy’s friends and family. He says additional counselors are being made available for students and staff.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan has been investigating what happened and whether O’Neill’s alleged attackers will face charges. Messages left for Whelan and the boy’s family weren’t returned.

A fund has been set up in Bailey O’Neill’s name and has raised more than $13,000, shattering its $3,000 goal. To donate to the fund, click here.

O’Neill’s father, Rob, told WVPI-TV previously that his son was a victim of bullying:

      On the other hand, Trayvon is now a national hero, but Bailey will be forgotten about quickly, being he was beat to death by an African American.

      facts, Trayvon had THC in his system, was expelled from school three times in one year, was recently found to have marijuana, burglary tools, and jewelry not owned by him. The night he was shot, he was not walking down the side walk like normal folks; he had a hood on, walking around behind houses. The head of the neighborhood watch called police, and was walking back to his car (as instructed), when Trayvon jumped him from behind, and tried to kill him.

      All of that being said, the president of the US, would wish to have Trayvon the thug as his son, purely because he is black.

      Since the Trayvon incident, little 12 year old Autumn Pasquale was lured by two black teens, and beat to death for her BMX bike parts. Not a peep from the MSM about hate crime. Not a peep from Obama.

      Let us not forget, Obama called white police officers “stupid” because they arrested a belligerent black man who refused to comply with the law.

      Multiculturalism and political correctness have made fools of an entire nation. They have in turn elected the enemy, and he is dismantling this once great county, and no one speaks out, because of his skin color.

      In this case bullying does matter, bullying is an intentional act meant to inflict harm physically or mentally and it is also indicative of a pattern of behavior showing this tragic situation is not an isolated event.

    If we want this bullying to stop then put your kids in a self defence class like Tae Kwon Do,it works,it teaches self-confidence,also teaches them to take down the bully if need be.All of my children know it and my two girls in thier 20′s have thier Black belts.I still pray for thier safety but knowing they can break a bone is somewhat comforting.:)

    God be with his family. My son is four years younger than this boy and I shudder to think what I would do in that situation. Think long and hard America. We have lost our way. Banning guns, knives, pencils, etc. won’t make us safer. We need to start healing our culture, bringing value back to life, and teaching our kids respect. Pray for our country. Pray long and hard and ask God to forgive us for losing our way and guide us to freedom.

      I’ve got one his age and 1 three years younger. It is at the 12 year old range that the bullying heats up. Mine are girls and in private school, but bullying still occurs. Girls can be very mean to each other to a point where my daughter wanted to leave the private and go to public. I was finally able to break her of that thought over the weekend and explain bullies are in every school. Parental involvement is key and if your child is reporting bullying, talk to friendly teachers or administrators to bring up the situation. Most likely they are already aware and willing to come up with a game plan to resolve the issue. My child’s bully happened to be a granddaughter of a very large donor to the school complicating issues for the staff, but they have so far handled it very professionally and effectively.

    Young teen male gets beat bad enough to go into seisures and then placed into a medical coma and then dies.

    Is it the doctors fault? Did the kid react to the treatment or medications that were given?
    Was the kids head hemmoraging? Sounds like it to me.

    Also where is the arrest of the kid or KIDS? A kid is dead. Period.

    “He didn’t mean to?” Too bad, so sad, hope he/they like hellions because I assure you the losers in the big house are NOTHING compared to these kids in pre-jail that feel that the law cant touch them…

    Car accidents or joke gone to far, for example. are all meant to be fatally unintentional, this was an attack that caused a death. The parents deserve closure. Let the kid/s rot till 18.

    And just what in the h.e. double toothpicks is that going to do to solve this issue? Was the fight a case of bullying, if so why, and by who? Was this a racial issue? I see a kid that looked really normal, involved in sports, and not showing outward signs of being a bully himself. By the school’s callousness I am lead to believe a protected class child was the perp in this case.

I did this by taking the population of blacks, 38,929,319 and divide it by half of the murders in america. The number is 12,996. so i just divided it by 6,500.. isn’t math fun!

There are many protected classes. My question was if it was somebody from a group other than Christian white male (the only unprotected group in the nation). That leaves a very large pool.

    Sad loss.1989, Ketchikan Alaska,my 6th grade son was bullied, followed home on a bus daily by the bully. I reported it to the school principal several times who blew me off saying “until something happens nothing can be done”. I took my son to school every morning and he took the bus home after school; the bully was supposed to be on a different bus and the school did nothing to stop it. Then one day I got a call from the school to come immediately, that my son needed to go to the Emergency Room. When I got there my son had been beaten on the school grounds by the bully . I took him to the ER, the school did not call 911. The doctor in the ER said my son had a severe concussions and may have permanent life altering disabilities that might not show up until later in life, such as seizures. Thankfully my son lived. The school said the police should have done something; the police said the school should have done something. Both said the bully and his family were known to cause problems and nothing could be done. I wish I had followed up and sued the school and each individual school board member as well as the police department for not preventing my son’s injuries. I wish I had given my son a halibut club to carry to school every day for his own protection. As it was, I took him out of school and homeschooled him due to the lack of safety in the school. Is it any different now? I doubt it since even here a certain ethnicity has no consequences for its violent acts toward oth

      The social-psychological rule of thumb is that weak kneed wilderbeasts of officialdom will crack down on people who cause no problem or occasional problems but basically comply with societies laws. They will not clamp down on people who will not comply or will aggressively fight back with lawsuits even if they are wrong. This is true especially so if the offending family has money or is well established/roots (regardless of money). Of course all this is out the window if the picked on kid is the son of the police chief, principal or otherwise part of the in group.

      Take that to the bank. A sociologists could expand upon it and relate it to this or that terminology but it is the truth.

      If your son can;t beat up the bully or his friends then beat up or threaten the bullies father while getting away with it. Beat the heII out the bullies father & we will make sure his son toes the line.

      If there is excessive swelling of the brain, the doctors often now will chose a medically induced coma.

      My cousin’s son was walking down a street in Chicago after a sporting event when a fight spilled out into the street. One of the fighters sucker punched my family member and he hit the granite curbstone. His buddies kept him breathing until the emergency team arrived. There was massive brain swelling. A medically induced coma saved Charles’ life.

    Boys have been getting into fights since time immemorial, may not be a good thing, but it is life and it will never prevented. This was an awful outcome, most just end in bloody noses. What kids are not learning today is respect, self respect, and civility toward all. What liberals promote is just the subversion of normal feelings, rather than coping skills all children should be learning to deal with conflicts.

    It says one-on-one and then says attackers. Which is it. The school is probably trying to delete all of the complaints about being bullied.

    The parents should sue the sh%t out of this school district and somebody should be arrested for a homicide. All this dam polite Facebook nonsense makes me want to puke!

      Bullies are given more rights than those they bully. Schools are headed by wimpy adminstrators who won ‘t stand up to them …AND THEIR PARENTS.

      Its just way too sad.

      You call a kid a derogatory name and you can be expelled but if a troubled child pushes the limit to the point that someone gets hurt… well… he just didnt know right?

      “Sorry about your childs death Mr CATB, please go home and be assured that we are doing are best to raise this troubled child right…”

      ..and they REALLY expect you to do that? The freaking gall and ignorance of it all!
