Country star Trace Adkins is well-known for his music, but the crooner also made headlines a few years back when he nearly captured the top prize on Donald Trump’s first season of “Celebrity Apprentice.”
Unfortunately for Adkins, he was narrowly beaten by CNN’s Piers Morgan. On Sunday night, the sixth season of the show premiered, featuring an all-star cast of past contenders including Adkins, actor Stephen Baldwin and entertainer Penn Jillette, among others.
Morgan, too, appeared as a guest judge on the program, leading to some testy exchanges with cast members. Aside from clashing with Omarosa, the so-called biggest villain in reality television show history (the two also clashed fervently when they were on the first season together), Morgan and Adkins had a noteworthy dialogue as well.
When the group was in the boardroom, Adkins noted that Trump had never pointed his finger at him when he initially fired him during the first celebrity-themed season of the show. The mogul responded, saying that he “never had the heart” to fire Adkins in his signature fashion, Mediaite reports (Trump normally looks sternly into the eyes of contestants, points at them and tells them, “You’re fired”).
Morgan inserted himself in the discussion at that point, joking that while Trump refrained from this behavior, he thinks he pointed at Adkins and fired him.
“I think I did, though, Trace,” the CNN host responded, smiling as he sat across from his former nemesis.
Apparently, Adkins thought that was a fair bit of revisionist history, as he responded quickly and firmly.
“Did you?,” he rhetorically asked. “I don’t think so. I would’ve slapped the s**t out of you.”
But the conversation didn’t end there. Morgan, exhibiting his usual confidence, had to have the last word, telling Adkins to simmer, while also reminding him that he inevitably beat him.
“Whoa — calm down, cowboy. It’s not my fault I beat you,” he responded.
