Fearless Mom Ignores Gun-Wielding Home Intruder, Retrieves Her Shotgun and Fires Three Blasts

A mother in Mandeville, La. woke up in the middle of the night to find an armed home intruder standing in her bedroom doorway. The intruder pointed the gun at the woman, likely expecting her to cower in fear and obey his every command.

That didn’t happen.

The fearless mother instead screamed at the armed criminal, seemingly startling the man and sending him retreating from the bedroom, The Times-Picayune reports. The woman then retrieved her shotgun from her closet.

Shotgun in hand, the mom first went to check on her children to make sure they were safe. Then she went after the man who broke into her home, who has been identified as Joseph Hall Rogers.

When she got to the doorway, the woman fired three rounds at Rogers as he scrambled to escape with his life. Luckily for the home intruder, all three rounds missed their target.

Police and a K-9 unit later searched the neighborhood and eventually located the drunk man. Rogers reportedly resisted arrest and was tased prior to being taken into police custody.

Rogers has been charged with home invasion and resisting an officer. His bond had not been set as of Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

So come on you at msnbc and you at other networks who hate guns, let’s hear a harrowing story about a brave robber who stood down an armed family of seven and escaped alive with over five thousand dollars worth of their possessions. Either you at the networks are the stupidest people in the world, or you traded goodness and common sense for earthly wealth and power.

Good for the mother, to protect her children. That said, a word for those who proudly post that killing someone would be a good thing: Don’t think for a moment that if you ever, Heaven forbid, have to use deadly force yourself and kill someone… these posts will come back to haunt you when you are charged with premeditated murder. They can and will be used as evidence against you; your hard drive will have every post you’ve made available for search. Just sayin’…..

  2: My state has Castle Doctrine, they’d never get to my laptop as I’d be presumed to be acting in self defense and acted responsibly. The DA would have to prove I didn’t. Even IF they did get to have my laptop, good luck getting past my encryption, if they manage to not trigger the “self destruct” and my HD is autowiped and “shredded”.

  There is no premeditated anything when someone breaks into your house. You don’t shoot to wound, you shoot to kill. If someone breaks into my place, that’s what I’m doing. Center mass with a shotgun/rifle, and double/triple tap with a pistol.

  that’s defeated by pulling the plug on the HDD. A multiple pass wipe all takes a looong time, long enough to interrupt after the first pass or two. Essentially all data can be recovered after less than four passes with consumer software. Then it’sjust a matter of cracking the encryption – expensive but, for you, possible.

  The Internet is a network of servers. Those servers are archived at different times. If you post it on the Internet it will likely be available to find and tie to you. Google yourself.
  
  Also self defense is NOT the right to kill anyone. Self defense authorizes the use of deadly force to stop and imminent threat of death or great bodily harm as such threat would be perceived and judged by a reasonable person knowing what you knew at that time. Being stopped with deadly force can be fatal, but is not always so. If producing the weapon causes the attack to stop the threat has been removed and no further force is authorized.
  
  Stopping an attack is a different mindset from shooting to kill. The initial response, where reasonable, of 2 shots center mass, assess, then respond as appropriate may, to the uninformed, sound like shoot to kill, but it is the standard handgun response to a imminent threat. It is accepted as such by police forces all over the country for their own response.
  
  Shooting to stop is looking for the opportunity to stop shooting as soon as the threat is removed.
  
  Do not think you can mess with the evidence to create an image after the fact. That is a virtual sure ticket to prison even when the original action was fully justified.
  
  I carry so I can go home. I am not interested in either being tried by 12 or carried by 6. I will walk away or run if I can, but if not, I will act to stop the threat. My goal is to go home in one piece every nig

  Resposible58- Let me simplify what I think you’re trying to say. I was trained never to shoot to kill or wound, you only shoot to “end the threat”. It’s law enforcement 101. I like to be careful about my post on any forum – here, facebook, etc. – because I know that there are legal ramifications. And not just for post online, but the T shirt, sign, or bumper sticker you have because you thought it was funny. I have actually been asked in court about a bumper sticker on my pick-up truck.

  It is accepted that an initial response to unload the weapon is valid (see many examples of this with U.S. police in life or death situations). Re-loaded is usually frowned upon unless the attacker is still a threat. A handgun, although a decent defensive weapon, is still not the be all to end all when it comes to an attacker. There have been many occasions where an attacker either is drugged up, or mentally disturbed will still attack with multiple handgun rounds center mass. Even with the m16, people high on some drug will and can still attack.
  
  Moral of the story, make sure that your assailant is no longer a threat before standing down. Double tap, triple tap, etc. are NOT sure things. That being said, watch out for tunnel vision, keep your eyes moving to watch out for other assailants. Make user that if you unload into one, that you reload in case of another. If your not well versed and practiced in reloaded your weapon of choice than I recommend another loaded handgun or rifle within reach.

  So what if they get the hard drive. Voicing your opinion is not a crime. You can say whatever the hell you want to say and you can hate, disparage, and disapprove of anybody you want. The only thing that matters to a jury is whether the shoot was legal. Did you have the right at the time to pull the trigger. The posts have to be pertinent to the case. You can say you hate blacks, or snowmen, or Apache Indians or whatever all you want but if a one breaks into your home you can smoke him in self defense. Maybe in commie prog strongholds they pull that crap but not where I live. Don’t worry folks. This country is going down and all those “laws” written on paper will be blowing around in the streets, next to the rotting bodies.

Mr Rogers is a very lucky man. If would have entered my house, the outcome would have been very different. My wife is a deadly accurate shot. And I would have had a real bloody mess to clean up.

  Depending on the range, barrel length, and choke pattern, the shot might have spread 15 inches or less. Want a wide spread for indoor use? Get a Serbu Super Shorty or a KEG 12. They can be had with 7 1/2″ barrels. They really have a wide shot pattern.

Only mistake she made, keeping the 12 gauge in the closet at night. When you are sleeping, keep it under your bed or close enough to reach down and grab. Then she doesn’t have to go far to reach her firearm. Otherwise, GO MOM!

Well I can see Joe Biden will be very disappointed in her actions. Good for this woman, good for her kids they have such a caring mother. Unlike the moms whom just want the criminals to have right of way in their lives and homes. Doubt the MSM will pick this one up.

Yeah … I had a drunk man come uninvited into our home one late night and wee hours of the morning, we didn’t shoot at him tho .. just threw him out. And he didn’t have a gun, just wanted someplace warm to sleep it off .. still, scary stuff when you have women in the household. .. this story had a good outcome …
