Gunfire Interrupts Live Local News Video…and Wait Until You See the Reporter’s Reaction

At the sound of gunfire, it might be someone’s natural reaction to duck and cover. Not for KENS 5 reporter Marvin Hurst in San Antonio, though. In fact, he didn’t even seem to flinch.

KENS 5 Reporter Marvin Hurst Live Report During Standoff Interrupted by Gunfire

KENS 5 reporter Marvin Hurst (Image: KENS 5 screenshot)

Hurst was conducting a live report in front of a home early Monday morning where the local SWAT team was holding a standoff with a man suspected to be armed and who had assaulted a woman earlier.

Hurst details the events that unfolded through the early morning leading to the 4-hour-long standoff, according to KENS. Then in the still dark morning hours the sound of rapid fire rips through the air. The camera quickly pans away from Hurst toward the house.

Amazingly, Hurst doesn’t seem fazed. Without even changing his tone, Hurst continues with the report.

“As you can hear in the background as this situation is going on that was gunfire of some sort,” Hurst calmly said. “Something has occurred as we were speaking live on air.”

Watch the report and hear the gunfire:

After he finishes up his briefing, one of the station anchors asks Hurst if he heard any yelling before the shots were fired. Hurst said he was focused on giving his report and that he didn’t hear anything prior to the gunfire.

According to KENS, members of the SWAT team shot and killed the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Jimmy Garza, Jr.

Here’s more of the back story leading up to the standoff from KENS:

The standoff all started as an assault against an ex-girlfriend and an elaborate plan to cover up the abuse. The 34-year-old ex-girlfriend is a Bexar County probation officer.

The woman told officers she had recently broken up with Garza and moved out of his house after eight months. On Sunday night, she met him at a bar and had agreed to go home with him.

According to a police report, Garza began hitting her as they drove away. He then stopped the car, forced handcuffs on her wrists and continued beating her.

The woman told police that Garza dragged her into his home and threatened to shoot her with a handgun.

Bleeding profusely, the woman convinced Garza that she need to go to a hospital. McManus said that’s when the suspect came up with the idea to crash his white SUV as a way to explain the woman’s injuries. The woman, however, also convinced Garza that she didn’t need to be in the actual the crash.

“And once the car was crashed, she took off,” McManus said.

The woman was helped by the owner of a home she ran to and was treated at a local hospital. Garza on the other hand ran into his home, which is where the standoff took place.

San Antonio police Chief William McManus told KENS the team thought at one point Garza would surrender, but when he rushed out of the house, gun in hand, officers opened fire.

This story has been updated to correct a typo.

Are some of you really that ignorant about black people? First off..they’re terrified either way. Second, Most do not, and third, there is no black neighborhood that is literally a war zone where you’re ducking bullets constantly. Right wingers out of touch with minorities as usual

CHRISXX5 – “First off..they’re terrified either way”. Who’s that? Are you referring to black folks? My girlfriend took a midnight shift nursing job which required her to sit the entire shift at a families house to help care for their daughter (approx 3 yrs old) who was basically a vegtable.
Night after night, my girlfriend would hear gunshots. When she asked the Grandma for the 1st time “are those gunshots?!”….Grandma replied “Yeah girl…where you think you at? This the hood. No point in callin the cops….we did that everytime we heard shots, they’d always be out here”. Upon hearing shots the following week, my girlfriend asked the older daughter (about 10 yrs old) if she was ever scared cause of shots being fired, she replied “huh uh…after a while, you get used to…its no big deal. Why? …you scared?”.
I’d say this family (among others in the neighborhood) were not terrified.

“…there is no black neighborhood that is literally a war zone where you’re ducking bullets constantly”.
See above story. The first time my girlfriend heard shots while at the home, I was on the phone with her. 3 shots…pop pop pop. I asked “were those gunshots???”. She replied “I dont know…you think? A muffler maybe?”. By the time she gets off shift, she has some enlightening information to share…well I’ll be!…there WERE gunshots.
I’d say KTMRIDER1 isn’t too far off from reality.

Quite the opposite here as a matter of fact.
A loud BANG at work seldom causes ME to jump and a lot of my black buddies make fun of me because of it.
They JOKE about how THEY duck and cover.
They tell me they LEARNED that behavior in their rough neighborhoods.
As if I am too “nerdy” to THINK about gunfire right away…

      And they be RIGHT.

Wow. Why always back to the racial crap? Do not fall prey to the Left’s attempts to control the discussion, to distract from the issues by fueling racial tensions…time to rise above the nonsensical arguments. Americans, regardless of color, just want liberty and the chance to prosper. Many seem to have forgotten that, but they will remember (hopefully before it is too late).

There is a HUGE problem with racism on this site! Go through comments on the Blaze, and look to see what type of comments/readers are the first to introduce race. It is always a conservative Blaze poster suggesting that black people are less intelligent, less trustworthy, or expected to act like goons. As if that wasn’t disgusting enough, they go on to justify themselves by twisting the concept that PC speech has become too restrictive. By far the worst part is that most people stay silent. The trolls jump in, but that’s it. Conservatives don’t have a right to be in power until they get a hold on the narrow minded bigots in the party. In this case, silence is agreement.

AR15′s are rapid fire, meaning that they are not automatic. You have to pull the trigger each time to engage the bullet. Our lame stream media keeps calling these things assault weapons when in fact the word “assault weapon” is an invented word. Anything can qualify as an assault weapon. For instance, baseball bats, knives, spears, bow and arrow, car, train, bus, a fist, you name it…..anything can be an “assault weapon.”

Just further proof of something I’ve believed for ages.

      Progressivism is communicable brain damage.

They exhibit all the signs of insanity & extreme mental impairment.

They repeat the same actions/policies over and over, failing each and every time, but keep expecting a different outcome each time.

They live in a reality & world all their own, one in which government doesn’t become oppressive when allowed too much power, increasing government spending creates jobs, and government can perpetually spend far more than it takes in and that the economy is capable of repaying without a collapse.

They attempt to distract from and flee any discussion, even become extremely angry, even violent, when forced to confront facts and/or realities that conflict with their ideology & agenda.

Progressivism is the US’s biggest public-health issue and is responsible for the majority of all the problems in the US currently. It is imperative that all those identified as Progressives be forced into holding camps for psychological treatment to protect the general public and the nation from the existential threat they represent to the lives and liberty of US citizens and the continued viability of the US as a nation.

He’s too high (legally or illegally… doesn’t matter does it?) to realize that you’re probably not going to be able to call the representatives of a local elementary school at 1AM in the FREAKING MORNING! But he’s able to get that in to try and scare the crap out of people with kids. He doesn’t give a crap about what he’s talking about, or what’s going on, only that he sounds good to himself while he’s talking. Rush calls these sleeze bag’s “drive by’s” for a reason, which I’m sure you understand. The reason he didn’t flinch is because he’s not connected to any form of reality, and high on something. San Antonio is not normally a war zone last I knew, so it’s not like this guy is next to gunfire all day long like a soldier in the military. Just another mentally deranged liberal.

Another people tragedy and not a hardware issue. I saw a guy in Hollywood Florida in the early 90′s walk out on a balcony, waving a hand gun. The gunman had just arrived from Georgia, earlier that same day. There were about 75 cops all pointing firearms at him. After a short while he fired one round into the air. That was followed by every single officer opening up. The guy tumbled off the balcony with more than 150 hits, through and through. Indeed, this was an incidence of “suicide by cop”.
