The chummy relationship between Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the late Hugo Chavez is no secret, but the depth of the Iranian president’s affection and indeed, reverence for the deceased Venezuelan leader might take some by surprise. Ahmadinejad declared Wednesday a national day of mourning for all Iranians while simultaneously elevating Chavez to martyr-status — one on par with Jesus Christ (who is considered a prophet in Islam) and Islam’s 12th imam — the last of the Twelve Imams who Shiites believe to be mankind’s ultimate savior.

Of Chavez, the Iranian leader said, “I have no doubt that he will return, along with the righteous Jesus and the perfect human.”

Shared ideologies and geo-political foes is one thing. Elevating a South American dictator to the the same status as, essentially, one’s messiah is quite another. Nonetheless, this is how deep Ahmadinejad’s adoration apparently runs.

In addition to delivery prophecies, the Iranian leader alluded to the conspiracy theory that Chavez may have met the same fate as the late Palestinian Liberation Organization leader Yassir Arafat, who some believe was poisoned by the Israeli secret service.

During his condolence message, Ahmadinejad said Chavez was a “martyr” who died of a “suspect illness.”

Chavez of course enjoyed immense popularity in Iran, having made no less than 13 visits to the Islamic Republic during the span of 13 years.

“Hugo Chavez is a name known to all nations. His name is a reminder of cleanliness and kindness, bravery…dedication, and tireless efforts to serve the people, especially the poor and those scarred by colonialism and imperialism,” Ahmadinejad explained prior to calling the Venezuelan leader a prophet.

  Chavez was a dictator and a thug. Hollywood idiots applaud him as the fools they are. He left his family wealthy, as all dictators do, and his country in poverty. He trusted socialized medicine and now he is dead. What does that say. Our flag at half staff ot honor a dictator???? Really!! I am so sick of progressives and their mentally sick view of life.   This type of comment from the likes of the Iranian prez are simply designed to offend and of course are spoken in either colossal ignorance of who Jesus Christ as well as who their 12th imam really is.. Islam has no real power other than their long practiced threat of violence to those who oppose them. Islam is nothing but a rather odious and elaborately constructed system of works. The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ says that He regards man’s works attempting to get to Heaven other than by Jesus Christ are as ‘filthy rags”. A more modern rendition of the sentiment behind this would be to say these works are “as used menstrual cloths”. Nice imagery and good luck convincing Him to let you in Ahmadinejad ol’ boy!

  Actually, Jesus Himself said He was coming back. So did the apostles in their epistles. Anyone who puts Chavez on the same level as Jesus Christ, doesn’t know either man. It’s interesting to me how low you will go to take the opportunity to attack Christians. Given the choice you have defended Mahmoud’s foolishness and impuned the Savior and His people. How brave you are. Why don’t you stick to topics you understand? Your comment about Christians believing Jesus Christ will return someday, while they could offend me if I chose to allow them to do so, nevertheless do not. I guess they failed to read Christ’s words written in Matthew 7 to beware of false prophets (speaking of the future) and that you would know them (i.e., false prophets from true prophets) by their works.

Just a thought about Chavez or any other of those “HEROIC” leaders of the people/poor. Their actions never bring the poor out of poverty, or instill the poor with any abition to lift themselves out of poverty. That’s not the plan.

They need a very large poor population to ‘protect’ Give the poor ‘just enough,’ to depend/love you, scapegoats suffiecient to blame for their poverty, but not the means by which to rise above needing you, and you remain in power forever.
