See the Stunningly Insensitive Scavenger Hunt List That Allegedly Came From a College Frat

Pi Kappa Alpha, a fraternity at Columbia University, is catching a fair bit of scrutiny over a scavenger hunt list that the group purportedly created. The document has been particularly eyebrow-raising over its inclusion of some bizarre requests the frat’s brothers apparently outlined for aspiring members.

From asking participants to nab shoes from homeless men to rewarding points for explicit sex acts, the list has no shortage of contentious inclusions. According to New York Magazine, the document was initially recovered by Bwog, a blog associated with Columbia University’s undergraduate magazine.

The paper was apparently left next to a library printer on campus, which led to its publication on the blog as well as in numerous national media outlets.

Pi Kappa Alpha Scavenger Hunt List Raises Eyebrows | Columbia University

Some of the items from the Pi Kappa Alpha’s alleged scavenger hunt list (Photo Credit: Bwog)

It outlines a points system, offering a range of accolades for various activities. While some of the items are more benign — even positive — like planting a flag at the 9/11 memorial (worth 10 points) or riding the Wall Street bull (worth five points), others are certainly less-than-positive.

Here are just a few selections from the list:

Piss on church of Scientology (minimum 1 picture): 5 points

Picture of a homeless person burning money: 5 points

Video of pledges piggy-back racing on fat girls: 10 points

Homeless man’s shoe: 10 points

None of these examples include the sexually-explicit content that was placed throughout the list. The fraternity, at least according to the document, also offered points for panties, bras and pornography.

Additionally, one of the options for submission was a recorded video showing a pledge engaging in a sexual act (this was worth 25 points). Cosmo called this particular element “winner for most appalling pledge assignment.”

While some might dismiss the activity as innocent fun, but Business Insider notes that college campuses consider these activities to be a form of hazing — something that could land a frat like Pi Kappa Alpha in hot water (although, that would depend on Columbia’s rules and further details surrounding just how widespread this list was).

The Bwog blog initially posted the document with the headline, “Not-So Good Will Hunting.” You can see the entire list of scavenger items (caution: graphic) here.

Actually, I had expected far worse than this, thank God, it wasn’t, at least not that particular list that was ‘found’.
Here’s another way to get points; A picture of certain Presidents eating certain animals (raw or cooked) served on a silver platter. Oh, that certain animal entrée must still have the fur on it.= 25pts

I am SO thankful my son has no desire to go to a major university, having already decided to attend a local community college which is less than a half-hour from home, so he’ll be able to live at home while attending school. The vocational-technical school next to the community college offers courses he’s interested in too. I grew up worrying that I’d have a son one day who’d want to be like a lot of the boys are today that pledge these big foolish frat houses. I am SO thankful I wound up with a son who is so much smarter than that. Thank you God in Heaven for blessing me with a good boy that wants no part of that foolishness!

Party time at USA University. Any parent that wastes their money sending this kind of child to college is an idiot! College is not about socialization first and foremost as so many students treat the time spent there. College is about an education, hard to get these days at most colleges, where the teaching faculty has fallen off the left edge of the Earth. Liberal Arts is no longer a course of education so much as an indoctrination in socialism. A student’s job at college is an education. It takes lots of hard work to get one. It takes discernment to get an education as opposed to an indoctrination. A student must learn how to use their ability to reason, and learn how to properly apply logic. They should all study logic. They should all be able to read and write well before they go to college. By high school they should know their languages, plural, as in more than one, English, Spanish and French. Sending your high school C student to college is a waste of money and their time. They need to learn how hard the real world is, and decide what they are going to work at so they can live in it.

I’m not too huge a fan of Pike (I have a couple friends in there though) but “hazing” is not a bad thing. Yes, when it gets crazy like actually endangering a pledge’s life things need to be done, but this kind of thing is fine. As a pledge I wanted to change how things worked, but once I got in I realized just how important it is. Fraternities are a brotherhood where everyone is united. You build that bond by going through pledging, not only with your pledge brothers but the entire fraternity. All my brothers went through the same exact thing I went through, and there’s a bond that non-greeks just don’t understand that is built through that.

@Bluzie Which of course is a very illuminating point. Members of an elitist fraternity at Columbia U. are not exactly progeny of middle class working folks. Come on their parents are no doubt job creators and by all means they should have the right to indulge their children anyway they see fit. From undergraduate thru grad school through my career I never met a fraternity that wasn’t comprised of self centered, self absorbed, daddy’s boys.

What do you gain, but what do you stand to lose?

Is this not “college-level” gang activity? Doing stupid illegal things to obtain membership
and gain the approval of the membership?

You obviously know nothing of fraternities and sororities. You gain a great brotherhood or sisterhood that will be with you for the rest of your life, you gain a great resume booster, and you gain the chance to participate in a leadership position. What do you lose? Nothing. You go through some stuff that binds you to your brothers, what’s wrong with that? Unless you’ve talked to or heard from someone that’s actually gone through it and know what a fraternity is all about, you shouldn’t be judging them as insecure or stupid. And gangs? Are you kidding me? In my fraternity we have five brothers that have been on Dean’s List for every semester in their college careers, and the rest of us have an average GPA of 3.5.

About us being democratic, you literally have no idea what you’re talking about. 99% of fraternities are republican. Just because you don’t understand why people do things doesn’t mean they’re automatically a democrat. Imbecile.

this is just typical stupid FRAT crap…they do stuff like this all the time…it is just idiotic but they think it is funny…like chugging beer until you puke….

Frats do quite a bit though on the back side of your college career…alumni of frats hire other alumni and certain frats out there have very reputable alliances and character requirements for their members that build them up as better men….

it is like Animal House…there was the “loser” frat that partied all the time, the “jock” frat, and the “rich boy” frats….all college movies make parodies of these sections of society…like the sorority of pretty stuck up girls or the little rich witches…all blonds usually….

frats and sororities might do some really stupid stuff…like this list…but as many that are doing dumb things there are twice as many doing good and for the right reasons…

There are boys that Muslims buy and who are forced to dance for them, among other things. Slavery – especially sex slavery – is still normal in places like Morocco and other Muslim countries. And even though the Muslims publicly denounce gays, they routinely engage in homosexual behavior with preteen boys whom they dress as young girls.

Yeah the deal with the homeless persons shoes is nothing new.I won’t say which college or fraternity but they had to do that a few years back in my area. They were nice took the homeless person to get new shoes out to eat and gave them a few bucks.Stayed in touch with them.Few months later the homeless person more than payed them back.Stopped someone from robbing the former pledge.Got ten stiches in his head in the process though. The former pledge quietly raised some money for the homeless person to put them up for awhile.Homeless person got a job and hasn’t been heard or seen since. It all worked out really well for all concerned.
