Even a Behind-the-Scenes Look in to the Making of a Fake UFO Video Doesn’t Convince Some ‘Believers’

Last month, filmmaker Aristomenis Tsirbas not only gave Wired behind-the-scenes insight into how he created a fake UFO video but also revealed that every single element in the footage was computer graphics imagery. But even with these revelations, Tsirbas has said, some UFO enthusiasts are still hanging onto it.

“The video is 100 percent CGI through and through,” Tsirbas, who created the video with his students at Gnomon School of Visual Effects, told Wired. “The electric towers [seen alongside the road] are 3D geometry and the sky is a 3D dome that has a texture map on it that’s a combination of painting, volumetric clouds and photogrammetry.”

“Some comments express what I can only describe as schadenfreude from people making sure ‘believers’ were fully aware that the video is in fact a hoax,” Tsirbas, who has worked on films including “Titanic,” recently told Wired. “But the most unusual comments come from a growing chorus of people who insist that the announcement of the hoax is actually part of an elaborate government plan to cover up the fact that the video is real. I even received a mildly threatening personal e-mail from one of these people.”

The point of the 100 percent fake UFO video, Tsirbas told Wired when he originally revealed his secret, was to prove how realistic CGI can look.

”Everybody assumes the background and car are real, and that the UFOs are probably fake, especially the over-the-top mothership at the end. The general reaction is disbelief, so I usually have to prove it by showing a wireframe of the entire shot to prove that nothing is real,” Tsirbas said.

My neighbor and I both sat down and watched the video …He stated right off the bat that it was a fake !..And he should know !..He’s from MARS….

There were four fairly credible videos of a classic UFO over the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem taken by different people from different angles. Very spooky.

Government “infiltrators” get kind of cranky when you expose their techniques to marginalize and discredit people, if even indirectly (monkey see, monkey do) by acting like they are “one of you” but cling to something they know is wrong, like gay marriage? What if porn does not exist, it is all computer animated, an experiment to “mess with your head” ? Have you seen it with your own eyes? Real and imaginary events are sometimes used together to produce a bigger picture? Trick questions?

If we can get heated reactions out of imaginary events, imagine what happens in the real world on a daily basis for people with no ethics? The guy that believes in the phony ufo photo or film, makes the rest of you that do, look like a bunch of silly people, it’s sometimes intentional, and sometimes accidental? Imagine that concept applied to prophecy?

Thou shall not bear false witness? Don’t be an infidel of Moses, someone showed you a film of a UFO, you did not see a UFO? Science is based on repeating what the witness saw, otherwise it did not occur, or is a statement?

If someone wanted to prove the war on terrorism is real and not fake, but you still believe in it anyway, after we show you the film of how we made up these imaginary events that never happened? Benghazi? What would your opposition need to film counter-measures, drones? After a while you start changing your opininion over time?

Trick question?

Hmmm .. reminds me of the Story of the boy who cried “wolfe”, when there wasn’t any .. and when the real wolfe came along .. no one believed in him … No doubt, UFO’s are in the same category. I’m sure the real thing exists .. NASA Astronauts, have photos of such outside the station in space .. still, I have a couple of opinions on the subject … of space photos. Not that they aren’t real, but on the what, where, who, on what we are actually seeing … not enough facts to get out of the “opinion” stage …

I am 100% convinced we are not alone in the Universe, but these people who still believe, even after being shown how this was faked……these are the same idiots that think Mein Fuhrer is “our Lord and Savior”.

  Do you remember a few years back when the SciFi channel had their SciFi happens marketing campaign? They encouraged viewers to send in video of anything odd they caught on tape. There were a bunch of really well done videos. This one went viral:

  Everyone was sure it was a real video regardless of some glaring mistakes made in its creation. Months went by then the maker of the video came forward on one of he SciFi channel’s forums explaining how he put it together and STILL many people refused to believe it was a fake.

  You are missing the very obvious. The BEST evidence for intelligent life in the universe is our own existence. WE are the best evidence there is. Since we exist it stands to reason that there are likely others out there. To think that in the incomprehensibly vast universe we live in that WE are the only intelligent life in it is an epic example or arrogance.

Video and photos are no longer evidence of any kind. I do 3D modeling and animation on the side. Any modern home computer is powerful enough to turnout photo-realistic fakes. The software is easily obtainable online as are all the tutorials you would ever need to master these applications. I have made my own fakes just to show friends who are hard core believers how easily I could produce stills and videos that could fool them. but then when you are talking to a true believer there is no amount of proof you can show them to ever get them to doubt.
