Here Are All the GOP Senators That Participated in Rand Paul’s 12+ Hour Filibuster… and the Ones Who Didn’t

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., walks to a waiting vehicle as he leaves the Capitol after his filibuster of the nomination of John Brennan to be CIA director on Capitol Hill in Washington, early Thursday, March 7, 2013. Senate Democrats pushed Wednesday for speedy confirmation of John Brennan’s nomination to be CIA director but ran into a snag after Paul began a lengthy speech over the legality of potential drone strikes on U.S. soil. But Paul stalled the chamber to start what he called a filibuster of Brennan’s nomination. Credit: AP
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Wednesday staged an incredible nearly 13 hour filibuster to block President Barack Obama’s CIA nominee John Brennan, but mostly to bring attention to potential drone strikes against Americans in the U.S.
Attorney General Eric Holder, in a letter to Paul, said in an emergency the federal government could execute a drone strike on U.S. soil. The revelation resulted in Wednesday’s filibuster, the senator’s way of ringing the alarm bell. Paul made it clear repeatedly throughout the filibuster that he would end it once the White House admitted that drone strikes against Americans on U.S. soil are “unconstitutional.”
The White House had nothing to say on Wednesday.
Several GOP senators joined Paul in his crusade, however, many others didn’t and were not in attendance. Further, very few Democrats participated.
The Republican senators who participated in the filibuster with Paul include, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Pat Toomey (R-Penn.), John Thune (R-S.D.), John Barrasso (R-Wy.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.).
It should be noted that Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) was in attendance and supported Paul’s filibuster by bringing the senator a thermos and an apple, a likely reference to “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” However, Kirk, who recently returned to the Senate after suffering a stroke, did not speak during the filibuster.
There are a total of 47 Republican members of the U.S. Senate, meaning 32 other GOP senators sat out the filibuster protesting the federal government’s controversial drone program. To find out who those senators are, comb through the full list here.
Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham spent Thursday morning shaming Paul and his filibuster. McCain said it was not “helpful to the American people” while Graham used a chart to try to embarrass Paul.
Just one Democrat joined in the filibuster, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) spoke but only asked questions of Paul and didn’t officially speak as part of the filibuster.
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama invited rank-and-file Republican senators to dinner Wednesday. His efforts are “aimed at jumpstarting budget talks and rallying support for his proposals on immigration and gun control,” according to the Associated Press.
The GOP lawmakers at Wednesday’s dinner were Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Tom Coburn, Kelly Ayotte, Pat Toomey, Bob Corker, Ron Johnson, Saxby Chambliss, John Hoeven, Dan Coats, Richard Burr and Mike Johanns. Toomey, Johnson and Chambliss headed to the Senate floor later that night.
Millions of Americans and others around the world participated via Twitter Wednesday night, making #StandWithRand the number one trending topic worldwide on the social network.

They will hum and haw and snark, but when push comes to shove, they are perfectly fine with extrajudicial killings on American soil, of Americans, with no due process and no trials and no legal recourse. What little the Left ever stood for regarding liberty is gone. They are now wholly tyrants and sycophants.
I regret that I ever, ever associated with any Leftist at any time in my life. They are monsters.

Posted on March 7, 2013 at 10:11amAh, good to know JustAngry. I didn’t see any listed in the article. I’m still sorely disappointed in the Democrats. As a libertarian I kind of hoped that they would at least pretend to try to retain what little respect for liberty they’ve held in the past, specifically regarding things like this.
Their conspicuous absence, and their absence on threads like this, is akin to the Right disappearing and being quiet when a Right-ist President gets a hard on for banning firearms. It makes absolutely no sense, until you realize that the power brokers and their slavish zombies could give two sh*ts about liberty and are full on totalitarian fascists. And that’s what the Dems are (and the majority of the GOP).

Posted on March 7, 2013 at 10:20amRon Wyden did not “join” the filibuster. He was forced to make an appearance because his views on eliminating the 2cnd amendment have got him in hot water lately. His lap dog Sen. Merkley has been trying to eliminate the fillabuster.
Sen. Wyden was there to speak against what Sen Paul was doing. Don’t forget, Wyden introduced the measure to eliminate religous protection under the first amendment and gut it. Wyden also is competing with durbin to become Harry ried’s personal lap dog.
Wyden has enriched himself a few million dollars with government money since the Obama was anointed. When you meet him, it’s like shaking hands with a zombie. There is nothing there.

Why are you so surprised? The party has purged anyone right of center and is making in-roads to purging anyone even slightly left of center (John McCain territory whom they are calling a far right personality).
The Dems that asked Sen. Paul questions didn’t want to be on the ‘participate’ list. They don’t want to be blacklisted by their party.
So, I’m kind of done with both parties. The Dems are a lot cause, they use the poor and don’t even support them anymore with anything other than “peanuts for everyone” garbage. The GOP cannot even determine what its principles are anymore. Instead of going back to the principles that made them the “Party of Lincoln”, they are dithering about being the “Party of Democrat Light”. I guess like Bud, they are just too watered down now.

The scripture that you reference in your post was written to a specific church regarding sexual impurity within the church (The church at Corinth).
Paul was telling the church via a letter that was sent ahead of his arrival that the problem should be handled this way until he arrived and he would take care of the issue himself.
It has nothing to do with supporting a politician who is trying to do the right thing.
When a person take a portion of Scripture out of context then they will invariably mis-interpret the teaching and very often promote false doctrine.

What we must do is to let them know that if they don’t do something, anything to help keep the house clean they’ll have to find somewhere else to live. Roughly 4 hours ago, I watched the ending of the Paulibuster. It reminded me of the last gasps of a valiant man slipping under the water for the last time after saving all the women and children from the shipwreck.
1 hour ago I woke in a cold sweat from a dream/nightmare where I was in a cavernous building full of giant tv screens and they were all monitoring individuals on their home computers and hand held devices. As I awoke I immediately remembered the big screen Glenn used showing the trending stories on the Blaze, and realized, to my horror, how easy the Gov’t. can monitor us now that they have this ginormous “Thought Collecting Facility” in Utah, and that we are all staring at a camera as we type and a microphone as we talk. Then I realized that occasionally my laptop has a glitch and I can only remove it by unplugging the power source and removing the battery, leading me to wonder if I am being monitored even when I’m not in use. Now I am thinking of all those drones, and all those new up armored DHS vehicles, and billions of bullets. And all I can think of is Obama smiling like a jackass in the white house as another issue falls to the wayside without reproof. Then I think again of the valiant, yet futile Conservative members flailing wildly while they beat themselves apart against this juggernaut.
I really have to stop eating Jalapeno/Anchovy Pizza before going to bed.

Obama does not understand the character, the nature or the composition of America or its people, which includes the resolve, the intestinal fortitude and the foreheads of flint when it comes to standing up against a damnable, lying, deceiving imposter and traitorous soul such as him. Even members of his own party, as blinded as they are, are beginning to see that this guy lives on the lunatic fringe and that no American blood flows through his veins.

Many of them are the Old Guard which needs to be sent packing in the future primaries, or if they reside in a state with a Republican governor, maybe we can get Rahm Emanuel to send them a dead fish with a message, “might want to hang up your senatorial shoes and go home”. Coming from Emanuel they might get the message that they are no longer are welcome in Washington.
Emanuel might not at first that he was doing us a favor, but he really would be. Most of these RINO types don’t have any balls, backbone or character and are otherwise known as sell outs.

Where the hell were you when the filibuster was going on? Grow a set and get involved! You took an oath of office to uphold and support the constitution… was it just to inconvenient for you to do so tonight? Why don’t all of you email yours?

Why didn’t you stand with Rand Paul? Our government has no business applying drones in the USA against its own citizens without due process and trial. There are no checks and balances otherwise. There is no formula for determining who is a terroist or not. They could make up anything they want to.Provide false paperwork to back it.No I don’t want to hear your platitudes that it wouldn’t happen.History dictates otherwise.Remember history Hitler started out this way.It wasn’t long before he targeted his political supporters. This isn’t meant as a threat, but a statement of fact, taken straight out of history.Stop and take a real long look at those you are surrounded by.
Remember you are to be the citizens representative not our would be dictators representative. Please do your job rather than be a syncophant.

Posted on March 7, 2013 at 2:30amAll of the Senators who dined with the “Campaigner in Chief” need to start packing your bags. You are done. That is the ultimate betrayal. They may not agree with the filibuster, but for the love of God don’t go break bread with the person responsible!!! Time to put McCain, Graham, Etc. etc. Out to pasture.

Posted on March 7, 2013 at 2:42amI would agree that a majority of that dinner list needs to go but would not agree that having dinner with “that guy” is the ultimate betrayal. If you ask me, the dinner invite was “that guy” shaking in his boots. Trying to kiss some arse.

Posted on March 7, 2013 at 2:17amThe picture makes him look so alone. I find it repulsive that his supposed peers felt comfortable breaking bread with the president while this was going on. Shame on all of them. While I despise obama, I equally despise mccain and am glad he never achieved the presidency.

Posted on March 7, 2013 at 9:03amThank you for posting their names. I am proud to say although I live in Florida, in 2012 I gave campaign donations to candidates Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah), and Tim Scott (R-S.C.). I voted for Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) although I wasn’t wild about it but he did the country proud yesterday.
Now I know who else I will give my campaign donations – even if just $20-25 and that will be to Pat Toomey (R-Penn.), John Thune (R-S.D.), John Barrasso (R-Wy.), , John Cornyn (R-Texas), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.).
After 2012 with the GOP RINO elites shoving yet another RINO down our throats – this time Romney after giving us McCain and Bush – and now in 2016 possibly Jeb Bush or Chris Christy – I will NEVER give another dime to the GOP party itself despite their numerous calls. I will ONLY GIVE money directly to the men/women I support and I support all the men above.

The acting president gave the order. . . the White House is officially closed to the public. . . using the sequester as the excuse.
Ladies and gentlemen, whether you know it or not, the Obama’s have just officially and once and for all, taken command of our house and made it their house. Would you like to bet they never open it up again to the public?

Posted on March 7, 2013 at 1:58amWhat I regret is that my daily committments prevented me from watching more than just a little of Mr Paul’s filibuster. I think that I may have missed a critical turning point in American politics.
I can only hope that someone will put together something on Youtube…

NOBODY should have participated and sent their regards from the Senate floor. When will these people learn not to be played? And durbin was a joke with his fake defense.

Quite correct. If Obama came out and announced genocide tomorrow against a large swath of Americans, Steelhead and people like him would immediate find it a good idea. These are not rational human beings and they have no connection left to America outside of geographical location. They are a waste and a shame.
