High School Kicker’s Phenomenal Field Goal That You Have to See to Believe
At one point in time, football experts would have told you that making a 70-yard field goal was impossible. Obviously, they would’ve been wrong.
It didn’t occur in an actual game, however, Jonathan Semerene proved that it could be done by drilling a 70-yard field goal during a training session with kicking coach Brandon Kornblue. As the Yahoo! Sports blog Prep Rally notes, Semerene would be the new national record holder for a field goal at any level if he had made it during a game.
Oh, and did we mention he’s a junior in high school? He currently attends Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Fla., but if this video is any indication, we may see Semerene in the NFL one day.
Back in October, Washington high school kicker Austin Rehkow set a state record by nailing a 67-yard field goal in a rivalry game. Even he would be impressed.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 9:30amIf Obama was the coach, he’s say, “You didn’t kick that… somebody else did!” To make sure he never made a kick like that again, Obama would pull the ball out from under his foot like Lucy in the Peanuts comic strip.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 7:04amThis isn’t a big deal.
Most NFL kickers can kick 70yders with no pads on and no defense or snap to worry about.
I’ve seen high school soccer players do this just messing around.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 4:53amAlex Karass hated field goal kickers. He said you play you a@@ off and some yahoo from soccer team in europe runs on the field while sayin…”I go keek touchdown”
I think the NFL should move the goal posts in and then put a foot wide net in the middle that if you get the ball in there its worth 4 points if the kick is over 30 yards out. A little spice in a really getting boring game.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 12:02pmMany coaches and players resent kickers because kickers often influence the outcome of games more than coaches and regular players could ever hope to.
the top 29 scoring leaders in nfl history are ALL kickers.
That kind of dominance marginalizes the impact of coaches and field players and makes them extremely envious.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 2:35amOh please, she obviously had absolutely no business being there. Injured or not, a competent kicker can kickoff with a torn ACL and still make 40 yards at least. These regional combines aren’t silly games, and she disrespected all of the serious athletes that were there to ply their craft. This woman even said that she hoped all of her video game experience would help her on the field! Does that sound like someone who was being serious?!

don’t believe the “injured” bs. good soccer players, even though they have a dominate leg, can still kick with either leg. somebody was pulling somebody’s leg, injured or not.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 12:31amFrom what I’ve read this sort of thing is actually fairly common but considering the ramifications of missing a field goal most coaches wont let players make this sort of play…that’s just what I’ve read though, I’m not actually a football fan so I don’t even know the consequences of missing a field goal.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 1:00amWell, at least in the Cornhusker State, the game winning kick can result in A) the 20 year old kid makes the winning kick and gets laid by every cheer leader on the team, followed by a book deal and being sole owner of 3 Cadillac dealerships (or) B) the 20 year old kid misses the kick, Nebraska fans tear him to shreds via the internet, and he’s forced to leave college and become a clerk at Casey’s for the rest of his life.
Other than that being a kicker is just keen…

Also its not like wind isn’t a reality in real games. For anyone to say they are not impressed, I would love to hear the stories of their glory years and how you could throw a football over those mountains. PALEEZE!

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 5:43pmHe nails them consistently? I’m assuming you’ve been to all his games or something. The way they celebrated it looks like he had to try a while before the first couple of them went through. Just try doing that in Green Bay in January with 11 guys trying to block it. We also don’t know anything about the balls he is kicking. In the NFL they use balls that are basically straight out of the box to kick. I can’t imagine many coaches going for a 70 yard field goal anyway unless its the end of a half. You only get 3 points if its good, and the other team gets the ball at your 40 if its not.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 12:13amThere is a very big difference between kicking a field goal at a target, and kicking a ball up around and over a bunch of 300 lb guys jumping up and down in front of you. A ball that is being positioned as you are in the process of the kick. And yes- there is a strong wind of some kind as the ball is hooking impossibly to the right. Some more than others.
