A man was shot and killed by a homeowner after he attempted to break into a home in Spokane, Wash. by entering through the doggie door.
Police say the homeowners knew the man who attempted to break into their home. The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
A witness told police that the man, armed with a large knife, attempted to force his way into the home though the doggie door, KREM-TV reports. The homeowner then shot the intruder in the chest.
The suspect, identified as Marshall J. Balduff, 28, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, the medical examiner confirmed. Officers performed CPR on the suspect but the effort was not successful.
The homeowners told police that Balduff had been threatening them and they believed he was holding a large knife as he was attempting to break into the home. It turns out they were right as police recovered a large knife at the scene that they believe belonged to Balduff.
“All involved parties were cooperative with the police investigation. Police said the coroner and forensic unit may also join in the investigation looking for evidence,” KREM-TV adds.
An investigation is still underway but no charges have been filed in the case.

Mar. 8, 2013 at 9:34amI think we need to figure out a way to make this information more apparent to the public. As sad as it is, we are not the people who need to see these stories. The liberals jumped ahead of us by getting control of the media a maybe 20-30 years ago. We need to reach out to those who likely agree with us, but do not have the knowledge to make up their minds. We all (trolls excluded) have a responsibility to make these types of stories public to maybe 3 or 4 people to ensure the widest dissemination. This is also the case for the economic news and eventually when candidates need support. Good morning Blazers!

Mar. 8, 2013 at 11:21amHe isn’t out of the woods yet. I talked to my Sherri this morning and he said, Here in Oklahoma we have the correct laws. I asked him about shooting a guy trying to break in and he told me to drag him in half way and there will be no problem. In Washington state the owner probably should have done this. The nice thing is there is no witness to argue in court.

Mar. 8, 2013 at 12:24pmbut wait…wasn’t this homeowner supposed to call 911 and let the police save them? I would say this is a clear case of pre-meditated murder on the part of the home owner. He didn’t give the police the half hour to get to the home before taking the law into his own hands. This poor man was probably just drunk or high on legal pot…he probably didn’t even know he had a knife…I say this is another Trevon Martin case.

Sooo…are they just being detained, when they have not committed a crime? Are they forced to go to the station for questioning? What if they say, “I have committed no crime. You are welcome to question me at my home, but I choose not to go to the station.”

Mar. 8, 2013 at 6:16pmThere is evidence to prove that violent crimes have been avoided and/or thwarted by guns millions of times every year. Unfortunately, the death of this intruder will be included in the number of “gun related deaths” in the stats with no explanation that a perp in the commission of a crime was the person killed…. and a much worse crime was avoided. But then gun control is NOT about avoiding crime or saving victims, hunting, or recreational shooting…….it’s about control.

Mar. 8, 2013 at 7:20amI thank God that once again Law abiding citizens were protected and prevented harm coming to themselves or family members.
It is not about gun control, it is about CONTROL. It is about the simple truth of tyrannical rule by dishonest persons who want to be the only ones who can have guns, hired guns so they can have all the power to make slaves out of the rest of the citizenry. Read Saul Alinsky’s preamble to his book. He is honoring Satan and acknowledging evil, the transgressor who always believe they are equal to God, that they are God. Weapons can be made out of anything. Research what the prisons will not let prisoners have or visitors bring in. Quite the list of what ordinary items can be used to kill another inmate or a guard.

Mar. 8, 2013 at 8:04amRape is not about sex its about power and control. So-called gun control legislation is not about guns its about control and the power that comes from that control. So in simple terms legislators who push gun control are trying to rape the entire population.

Mar. 8, 2013 at 1:17amDoggie door seems to be the obvious place for psychos to enter. It’s never locked. I had a distant female relative who was estranged from her druggie husband. He did not live with her. But when she was about to go to bed, she saw the hallway light on. She walked out to turn it off, then saw him standing there with chains. He got through the dog door. He tortured her all night. When she did not show up for work the next morning, her fellow female employees called the sheriff. When the sheriff banged on the door and tried to bust in, he shot himself in the chest and fell on top of her. She was chained to the bed. He died on top of her. Women need to arm themselves.

Mar. 8, 2013 at 12:26amHi MONK, that being in Washington State, I hope all goes well for the home owner. That is just one of those states that I do not trust when it comes to protecting yourself from an armed criminal. Another thing, I wonder when the second guessers will show up to blame the home owner anyway. There have been a large number of continuing studies about how quickly a knife wielding suspect can cover in excess of twenty five feet to attack before a person can draw and fire a weapon. I expect to hear how 8 to 9 people in the home could have handled the perpetrator. The city here had three cops rapidly injured by a woman either last night or the night before when they went to serve a warrant. She just happened to have a box cutter secreted in one hand.

What kind of links are you looking for? The story didn’t set off any alarms for me, so I have not done further research on it at other sites. It will take time for them to decide whether they will charge the home owner for being a victim or not later. That is when I hope The Blaze does a follow up.
