Elisabeth Hasselbeck is being fired from ABC’s “The View” because market researchers found that her conservative views were out of touch with the show’s audience, according to a report in Us Weekly.

The magazine, citing unnamed sources, reported Friday that Hasselbeck will be leaving the show along with Joy Behar, an outspoken far-left liberal who quit the show by choice.

“The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right-wing,” a show insider whose name was not reported told UsMagazine.com about Hasselbeck Friday. “People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed.”

TV Newser later reported similar developments. The site referenced two separate sources that confirmed the conservative co-host was leaving “The View.” A spokesman for the ABC show told TV Newser that Hasselbeck has a “long-term contract.”

“If Hasselbeck’s conservatism is a problem with audiences, it would appear to be a relatively new one; she has been on the show for nearly ten years with no apparent fuss,” the Huffington Post notes.

So, that leaves the show with Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd — not exactly a group with diverse political ideology. It should be interesting to see if ABC chooses to hire another conservative to at least attempt to balance out the liberal side.

  Never watched the show but this looks like the beginning of the weeding out of conservatives in the media. There aren’t enough as there is but I willing to bet we will start seeing others dropped 1 by 1.

  I saw that too. I watched a few shows when it first aired. That’s it in a nut shell. Never like the others to be fair. Didn’t understand watching of people about stuff. I also saw the news heading that way in the 70′s. Opinion, opinion. We all have one. (opinions not A**hl’s) A talk show ok, news, no. Maybe Fox will pick her up, maybe not.

  Just as luck would have it, I thought the View would have a bigger audience now that that UN-JOYFUL witch is leaving……….and what to they do? They get rid of the only reason (so I’ve heard) that many continued to watch that stupid program.. they get rid of Elisabeth.

  Elisabeth is intelligent, witty and very nice on the eyes but..

  I used to enjoy the program, years ago. Hasselbeck was outgunned on every single topic that mattered. Truth be told, I don’t like watching The Five because of the diarrhea Bob Beckel often produces. So “The View” was beyond intolerable once it became clear that it was effectively brainwashing, but in a cool and fun way. (Or something).

  He issue is daytime tv on he alphabits (abc nbs cbs pbs etc) is loaded with this kind of left wing opinionated bias. Lets assume someone cannot afford full cable but they have a tv and its plugged into the wall. Lets assume people sitting around during the day arent at work and there is a good chance they are getting something from the govt. Zero conservative representation plus handouts equals total control. I dont watch BeckTV but i hope his effort rips the skin off network programming bias on the lower numbered channels.   I completely agree. Although I rarely get to see the show, she’s better off. She’ll get something else. I find it hard to believe that that many people complained about her. But then again, they obviously are not working (not talking about stay at home moms, I was one for 8 years…that is working!). So, they must be part of the welfare state group. Not surprised.   Wow! You folks sure do have an emotional investment in The View. I think it’s because most of you grew up watching Virginia Graham’s Girl Talk. Yes, you’re that old and decrepit. Your clocks are running out. Take my advice – get a life before it ends. Don’t watch so much bad TV. And don’t invest yourselves in reality show personalities. Don’t any of you have hobbies? Interesting avocations? Build something? Craft anything? Challenge yourself just for the sake of the challenge? Create interesting contributions to the human experience? I don’t think you do. You’re too busy with WWE and Duck Dynasty and hosing down the driveway. It’s just a talk show!

  Usually one viewing of The View is enough to turn your stomach. All the lies and hate they spew out tells you they are without love or caring for their fellowman. As for polls you can select them to get any answer you like no matter what the subject. Plus the wording can be so constructed that the answer you give will be the answer they want. Anyone who has taken any survey should realize this when have to answer as they are yes or no when your answer would need a comment not yes or no.

  ChildOfTheKing, when you make that kind of statement, you want to make the distance longer, as in “I wouldn’t touch them with a ten foot pole,” or perhaps, “I WOULD NOT COME WITHIN A MILE…” When you say you won’t come withing a foot of someone, your meaning is ambiguous.
  
  And by the way, they fired her because the audience for the show didn’t like her. It’s a ratings thing. The actual purpose of the show is to make money if you weren’t aware of that fact. It’s business, not personal. Please don’t hate capitalism, even if you are a communist.

  I agree; I also stopped watching it because they all would talk over Elizabeth or lightly ridicule her and she could never get a word in edgewise against the four of them. Already out-numbered to begin with, and they still wouldn’t give her a respectable chance. That, and Joy Behar is THE most irritating voice to listen to! I would have thought SHE would be fired if a similar poll were taken concerning her presence.

  I think she is a victim of Organizing for America a Obama group that is receiving funding from major Leftist donors including money being raised by the White House through access fee’s to the President. They are attacking politicians as well as Radio Talk show hosts, and some TV personalities. Remember also that Hasselbeck asked Obama a hard question while the president and his wife were on the show in which his wife gave her a scowl while Obama tried to avoid answering her. Doing that on national TV would certainly put her on a enemies list of the Obama’s.

  I guess they would have fired Archie Bunker too because he is a racist, and we would have missed out on years of entertainment while bringing up important issues of the day. I’ve no doubt that their research is accurate about “their” audience, because not only do they lose conservatives, but they also lose people who are not entertained by liberal bombast. Notice that they didn’t say that their audience did not like Elizabeth Hasselbeck, how could you not like her, she is a very sweet woman. They said that their audience found her views extreme. The network obviously wants to create a liberal echo chamber. Ask the right question and you get the answer you want to hear. The networks consider their news and opinion shows as loss leaders, while they profit from their entertainment shows on broadcast and cable and reruns of their classic shows of the past. The business is set up where they now produce and control their product. The days of Aaron Spelling and Steve Canell are long gone. That happened because Congress changed the law and allowed the networks to do this and now you see what you get. We have to change the law back. It is an important cultural issue, economic freedom issue and free speech issue that is never discussed.

  Not only was she physically attractive (to most men), but while she was far too ‘progressive’ for my taste, and she isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, she does have over a decade of experience in the business. Glenn Beck should hire her and do a competing show with only one ‘progressive,’ and the rest would be hard core Constitutionalists. And when I say ‘Progressive,’ I am talking about Elizabeth herself. S.E. Cupp is much too far to the left to be equivalent to Elizabeth’s position on The View…

Ratings are never as high for politically “balanced” shows.
You have to be over the top and extreme to get ratings up.
That goes for both sides.
And let’s face it, this show was never “balanced” in the 1st place.
She was only there so that executives could SAY it was balanced.
USING the word doesn’t make it true.
Just think “transparency”.

  I am speaking of TV in GENERAL.
  Andy Griffith – considered boring , but I like it.
  Archie Bunker and The Jeffersons – both big hits and “over the top” in racial/political views.
  Fox/Glenn Beck – I love them but if a liberal won’t watch there must be some balance missing.
  I am adult enough to admit that Fox is politically RIGHT.
  BEING conservative myself, I love their views – and yes they do rag on stupid conservatives at
  times – so I feel they are more balanced than others.
  But the reason CNN/MSNBC get lower ratings is there are too many liberal news shows to go around.
  
  Kinda like Ross Perot hurting the Republican candidate but HELPING the Democrat – but in reverse of course.
  
  Fox is the ONLY Conservative show.
  The country is roughly half and half.
  The are LOTS of Liberal shows to compete against EACH OTHER.
  
  A calm “Judge Judy” would be off the air.
  As well as Joe Brown.
  They are over the top with no limits and therefor fun for some people to watch.
  Explain the ratings of South Park or Boondocks without talking about over the top.
  
  Bottom line, she HAD to be a constant reminder to Liberals how stupid many of the views were.
  That stopped rumors/exaggerations etc from getting “over the top”.
  
  If I am an angry liberal who NEEDS to blame my problems on everyone ELSE, I don’t want her correcting me or the other extremists that I WANT to RELATE to.
  
  After all, I I can here a CELEBRITY say it, it must be true and justify my anger…

  A majority of the United States is Conservative. In fact, 80% is conservative or moderate and only 20% consider themselves liberal. Of that 20% that is liberal less than 5% is “progressive.” That is not the reason Hasselbeck is leaving. The show’s ratings are plummeting and they are doing what they did with Lisa Ling, Rosie, and Star Jones. (trying desperately to stop losing viewers). Behar and Hasselbeck are leaving at the same time. The show is painful to watch and will be cancelled once Walters cannot continue any longer.

  But to be transparent here, I do not HAVE cable TV anymore – got rid of it 2 years ago.
  I got TIRED of being pissed off all the time.
  With nothing but BS to watch to boot.
  And I have NEVER watched The VIEW.
  My only knowledge of it comes from “news” websites, and I have watched a few clips here and there on those sites…
  
  Now I get Andy Griffith, Archie Bunker, The Jeffersons, Kojak, Leave it to Beaver, Patty Duke, Mr. Ed, The Partridge Family, Bonanza, Rockford Files, Maverick, etc.etc etc all day/night long.
  
  And BBC NEWS.
  
  Now if I could just quit coming HERE and reading views of CONSERVATIVES that are hard core with no balance I would be a happier person.
  
  Example – SOME gun laws ARE GOOD in THEORY.
  The gvm’t just fks up the execution.
  And I HAVE guns and own STOCK in S&W.
  
  Medical care in America DID need to be fixed – but it was only made WORSE by not attacking price gouging, insurance fraud etc and forcing WORKING people to pay for the same CRAP to be given to the NONworking ones.
  
  A Border Fence DOES need to be built – but are YOU going to pick crops for $2 per bushel so I can eat CHEAP?
  
  A cleaner world is a GREAT thing – but at WHAT EXPENSE?
  
  Balance is a much needed thing in this world but it doesn’t get high ratings…

  I think you hit the nail on it’s proverbial head! This “President’ can’t work his act when he knows there is at least one person in the room who has not gone into a trance of imaginary ecstasy. Some folks thrive off of opposition, they make good lawyers or actors or teachers. Elisabeth must be one of these folks who love the David vs Goliath dynamics. It has to be her preference, to have tolerated these ‘people’ close up and personal, for so many years.   I didn’t even realize this show still existed! Only today I heard that “Joy” Behar was leaving because she wanted to be taken more “seriously,”–then I heard that she wanted to “Hone her comedy skills more”? Why knew she was either? I just thought that the View was folding or HAD folded and she was one of the rats leaving a sinking ship!
  
  Now I learn that the only person that’s been on the show for the last almost 20 years with any brains is being “fired,” Elizabeth. Even “Windy Waters” is a dork and a tool.
  
  All the best Elizabeth, you’re worth much, much more than the S&M that goes on on this show!
  
  Thank God for the choice to have no TV–two plus years now! If it’s not available easily on the internet, it’s not worth watching, and much of what IS AVAILABLE ON THE NET, isn’t worth watching either!
