Bill Clinton Now Asking Supreme Court to Overturn Marriage Legislation He Signed into Law

WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — Former President Bill Clinton is calling on the Supreme Court to overturn a law he signed that bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages.
Clinton says the Defense of Marriage Act is incompatible with the Constitution. He says he signed the law in 1996 to avoid legislation that would have been even worse for gays.
Clinton writes in a Washington Post op-ed that American society has changed. He says he now realizes the law discriminates against gays and provides an excuse for others to discriminate, too.
”In 1996, I signed the Defense of Marriage Act. Although that was only 17 years ago, it was a very different time,” he begins.
“As the president who signed the act into law, I have come to believe that DOMA is contrary to those principles and, in fact, incompatible with our Constitution,” he writes later. Then he adds:
When I signed the bill, I included a statement with the admonition that “enactment of this legislation should not, despite the fierce and at times divisive rhetoric surrounding it, be understood to provide an excuse for discrimination.” Reading those words today, I know now that, even worse than providing an excuse for discrimination, the law is itself discriminatory. It should be overturned.
The Obama administration has stopped defending the law in court, and the Supreme Court is expected to take up a challenge to it later this month.
Separately, the high court is also considering whether California’s gay marriage ban should stand.

Posted on March 9, 2013 at 2:20amThis is great political theater. Bill is on the attack hoping to clear a path for Hilary in 2016. I’d buy the Pay Per VIew Obama Clinton grudge match. Howerver, that darn Bengazi thing isn’t going away. Hillary has shown herself to be unfit for leadership and God willling the truth will come out and she won’t even bother to run.

Regardless of where someone falls on the gay marriage issue, for goodness’ sake if you have principlese stick to them. If you change, at least try to make it less obvious that it’s a shamelss pitch for votes.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 1:04pmWell- if he said “I was flat out wrong” he might get an ear from me. But since he has to use clintonese and say “i have come to believe due to something else i didn’t care about and understand before, which i took an oath to uphold btw, but which i now am enlightened as to it’s new meaning because i have evolved” – not so much.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 12:56pmAll States should call for a Constitutional Convention and lay gay marriage and abortion to rest.
Constitution of the United States, Article V.
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when Ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the year One Thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.
The Senate and the House must be forced by State Governments to Amend the Constitution to show the true balance of Power, which is of course, The People.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 11:48amSame reason he pardoned Puerto Rican and Jewish terrorist right before they set up Hillary to run for Senate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Clinton_pardon_controversy This is prep work for 2016, nothing more. Don’t look for any moral or logical reason, pure calculation and no, he does not care a moment about gay people. They just use them to stay in office. Sound familiar?

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 11:05amWhy would this be such a big story? A man who does not even live by the Biblical vows of his own marriage, had multiple adulterous affairs and even accused of rape…yet touted by a party that even boo’s God, let alone wants Him anywhere in their platform.
A man who lied, under the oath of God and in humanistic court of law, let alone governmental…yet, once again, touted by so many.
His stripes never changed, and his values reflect who he is, let alone that of his wife. remember, this is a couple that would even sellout the bedrooms our founding fathers slept in.
Once again, this is no surprise, it was a foot in the door he installed in his term as President.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 10:59amBill Clinton makes statements that are timed and that will benefit him and his wife politically. He taught our teenagers that oral sex was O. K. He committed adultery with “that woman” in of all places, the Oval Office. His values aren’t evolving – he has always been a liar and a cheat and his new announcement on gay marriage has come at a time when he can get his face and headline in the newspapers. Someday that rascal’s sins will catch up with him.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 10:15amI can’t believe this irrelevant punk is still flopping his jaws at the American public. Why do people listen to this waste of human bio-mass?? He is still the same liar he’s always been, and is too much like hussein in that he feeds on adulation. I know of NO reason to fawn over this clown, and certainly no reason to applaud hussein. They are both punks with lifetime Secret Service agents at their sides. They just cannot stop ripping off the American taxpayers. Secret Service for life???….that is a waste of my money and they do NOT deserve it. F ‘em both.

Your comment is spot on. Bill’s change of heart is no different than Obama’s “evolved” stance on gay marriage. These politicians have no standards and no convictions. They will say anything and change their position at the drop of a hat in order to secure your vote. I may be gay but, I’m certainly not stupid.

Posted on March 9, 2013 at 5:16pmYou got that one right, it’s all about 2016. That’s 4 years to drag out all the horrible things that couple have been implicated in from Arkansas to D.C. Too many things to be coincidental, too many bodies. Enough to make you wonder, what if? It’s going all the way back to the things she supported while in college.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 6:22pmIt’s kinda fun to look on google and see how many people close to the Clinton’s lost their lives. Time wears on, but memories are alive forever. Several Hwy. Patrol guys and one of the wives who were close to Bill, and Ron Brown & a group lost in a plane crash??? Vince Foster who’s papers were found in Hillery’s office much later after she went through everything to see if she was implicated.
Yep, power changes people who didn’t have much faith to start out with in the beginning. You know, kinda like getting a camel through the eye of a needle? “God O God, why have you forsaken me?”

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 9:24amI don’t think there is such a thing as a conservative or moderate democrat, some just don’t feel free to express their true socialist leanings, especially in the southern states. These liberal continue their march towards socialism.
