Rape Survivor Pens Powerful Op-Ed Aimed at Anti-Gun Colorado Lawmakers: ‘Don’t Re-Victimize Me With Your Legislation’

Editor’s note: The content of this story is centered around an instance of rape and therefore will be disturbing to some readers.

After surviving the unthinkable act of rape, Kimberly Weeks is bravely speaking out and telling her story in hopes that anti-gun Colorado lawmakers will rethink efforts to “re-victimize” her through gun control legislation. Specifically, Weeks wants the right to carry the firearm she is licensed to carry on her college campus so she is not defenseless against an attacker.

In a powerful op-ed published on RevealingPolitics.com, Weeks tells her tragic story and makes an impassioned plea to gun-grabbing politicians in Colorado.

During the unbearable hours of my attack, I was painfully aware of what was happening. I wish I could have shut down – but I didn’t. I started doing whatever I could do to survive. I was fighting for my life.

During the assault, I lied and told my attacker I had herpes, which did not nothing to deter him. I told him I was claustrophobic, hoping he would move the shirt just enough so I could identify him later – if I survived. I asked to use the restroom saying I might wet myself, but he repeatedly denied my requests.

I was doing everything I could to escape – doing everything I could to stop the horrific violence that was being forced upon me. I did everything I could – and I prayed it would be enough.

Time was running out, so despite the pain, anger, and fear that was coursing through my body, I tried one more thing: I started talking and kept him engaged in conversation for the next hour as I watched the sun rise through my bedroom window.

Others that could help were so close, yet so very far away. No one else knew what was happening to me. It was lonely and terrifying.

I convinced my rapist that I would not report his actions, that I was too embarrassed, and I even told him that I forgave him. I told him everyone makes mistakes. When he asked if he could get a drink of water from my kitchen, I directed him to the wrong cabinet, hoping he would leave fingerprints behind. When he left to get a drink, I was alone in my bedroom. I frantically glanced around and saw my cell phone, a knife, a hammer, and other various tools sitting on my bookcase headboard from unpacking the night before. I knew I could not physically overpower him with any of those objects if he came back.

After what felt like an eternity, I saw something that I never thought I’d live to see – he walked out the front door.

I had survived.

She then pleaded with Colorado lawmakers not to strip her of the right to carry the weapon she is licensed to carry on her college campus. Colorado is currently considering seven gun control bills, including a ban on concealed carry on college campuses and a ban on high-capacity magazines.

“I ask – no, I beg – each Colorado Senator to stop ignoring the voices of citizens like me. Don’t re-victimize me with your legislation,” Weeks writes.

“Please, Colorado, don’t disarm me with your vote.”

The audacity of these ‘lawmakers’ to think they can write any law that infringes on our second amendment right. Sure they’ll write laws to violate that right and I will ignore them because that right didn’t come from government so they can’t take it away. Carry your weapon at all times and you won’t become a victim and ignore the progs in DC and every state house that tries to strip you of your God given rights.

And I am also sick of having conversations saying the infringement is legal because the Supreme Court backs it up.

The courts support the tyrant in dictatorships, too. Unfortunately for them, the Constitution is written in English, a language I understand well. The words “shall not be infringed” are clear.

If those words are outdated and wrong – fine. Convince 2/3 of Congress and 3/4 of the States to change them. Any other method shows blatant disregard for the laws you are writing and expecting us to follow.

Me thinks that these judges (lawmakers? a joke, yes) should be raped once or twice. Sadly, they would probably ‘enjoy’ their violation and continue on with their commitment to ‘control’ others and tell them where, when and how to act and think. People are able (in most cases) to think and act for themselves; thank you very much. I sometimes think these people are dropped from another planet. They Do live in an alternate reality, and are bossy pants to boot.

I see this same scenario repeating itself everywhere on every issue. Reasonable people who keep trying to reason with unreasonable people. My opinion is that the left is helping the POTUS fundamentally transform the USA using positions of power and the law to overwhelm everything! It is so obvious that it was intentional to rehurt this rape victim in order to keep all unfocused!
We need a 10 million man march on Washington to demand the reinstatement of constitutional law of the people and for the people and by the people of the USA.
Dont let them distract us from their true intent!

it’s called a Constitutional Convention”. And it is time. There are currently (to my last knowledge, I may be wrong) 38 states with CC articles. We need at lest four more. Write your representatives. A CC can strip DC of everything and start over if they so decide. Time for a “do over” people.

    Kimberly,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they don’t give a damn about you, the fact that you were raped….or the possibility that you may be raped again.

In fact they hope that you will just shut up. Their agenda to infringe upon your Constitutional right to bear arms that shall not be infringed is far more important than the night you were inconvenienced by a rapist.

Thank you for speaking up and sharing your story…I guarantee that it will fall on deaf ears….the libs are a heartless bunch who care nothing about women, minorities, the poor…..or any of those other groups they profess to care about. They care about one thing and one thing only…power over you and me. …and they will stop at nothing to get that power…they will tear up the constitution and flush it down the toilet so that you cannot defend yourself …..because if you have a weapon….you have the power.

The Essence of the Gun-Control Debate: Obama

For various reasons, Americans opposed to governmental control of guns in the hands of civilians rarely cite what many decent, law-abiding citizens consider the chief reason they stand arm-in-arm even against seemingly innocuous plans for our current leaders to require everyone to register their legal weapons.
The Father of our Country, George Washington, said it first: “Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence,” as long as Americans are permitted to own them.

Most likely–and with good reason, considering the predominant thinking of our president’s mainstream media–gun owners and non-gun owners who believe in their constitutionally-guaranteed right to “keep and bear arms” may feel they will be labeled as kooks, gun nuts, skinheads, paranoiacs, or all of the above who should be committed posthaste to the nearest loony bin because they respect and honor the Second Amendment.

And, they would indeed be characterized as kooks, gun nuts, skinheads, and paranoiacs by the Obamian MSM for their beliefs, by those same Obamian mainstreamers who are either ignorant of the fundamental intent of the Second Amendment to our Constitution or choose to flaunt it.

That amendment was incorporated into America’s Bill of Rights precisely to authorize and enable the citizenry to take up arms against repressive and overbearin

OK, and liberal whack jobs never threaten violence when the tables are turned…so all those folks throwing rocks, bottles, trash cans, breaking windows, wearing gas masks, you know, the OWS a**wipes…they were card carrying NRA members, right wing whack jobs? Uh, no…most of them were Obama voters, mostly liberals, some anarchists, they made death threats, carried bomb making materials in their cars ( at least three cars we dealt with in the NW). They didn’t just make threats, they carried them out. The most significant threat you elude to was dealt with quickly and the idiot was arrested. The other threats were less specific. Her point isn’t about losing her right to have a pistol, it’s about carrying a concealed pistol at school. She is most vulnerable between class and the parking area…since most parking areas at colleges and universities are generally on the periphery of the school, they are generally remote, far away from the main or center campus area. Many have multi-story parking structures. These are great places to surprise unsuspecting people. She has every right to protect herself. No one should have the audacity to assume they know better than her HOW she should protect herself. No one should deny her that right. As for maniacs with “assault weapons” those particular rifles, were used in less than .06% of ALL murders in 2011…maniacs are apparently just running amuck out there…#1 killer hands and feet. The main intent is to protect citizens against maniacs with assault rifles. No one’s trying to take a pistol from a woman. That is one of the worst BS arguments that the gun romancers have. The concealed carry on college campuses bill won’t go through, and women and men will continue to be able to carry concealed weapons in most places even if it did. This is a facetious, idiotic argument that isn’t fooling anyone. The Blaze and other far right “news sites” should be ashamed of posting garbage like this.

So funny how you hide behind main intent, when one of the larger conservative complaints about overbearing progressive lawmaking is the myriad of “unintended consequences” they usually bring with them. Make the burden of ownership of a weapon more difficult, and thus nudge people down the path you deem correct. @USETP2WIPE And the main intent of the 2nd Amendment is NOT for hunting as you liberals keep trying to change this argument to. It is about protecting the American people (which may include you, I don’t know where you live) from a Tyrannical Government. Please, have you ever read the Constitution? Have you ever read the Bill of Rights? Or do you just sit at your computer all day and spout off left wing liberal talking points and tell everyone what you THINK it says. Here, I’ll help you out.

Amendment To The Constitution Of The United States of America

      Amendment II
“A well regulated militia, BEING NECESSARY TO THE SECURITY OF A FREE STATE, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.” [emphasis mine]

Our founding fathers new that in order for us to be free and to remain free, we needed to be armed. We needed to be that way because they knew government. They had studied governments throughout history, and they lived under a Tyrannical King. They put the Amendments, this one in particular, to limit the government and protect the liberty of all of us. Being one who calls it like it is, believe me when I say that I mean no offense to the one penning the letter, but reverse emotional efforts on these people does not work because they are phonys with their own emotional outbursts to get legislation past and rely on the village idiots to carry this emotional baggage for them. You pleas fall on deaf ears and please be learned in this fact, they do not care for your reverse emotional pleas for help in your cause unless it fits their narrative and this does not so seek ye another road to victory.

I’m starting to wonder if the only road to victory is to keep and bear arms directly to Washington to fix stupid the way we know best. These idiots only care about one. getting their way. It’s all ’bout power at this point in the game and they are addicted to it. I honestly think it’s time to forcibly remove them from office.

A key Colorado lawmaker behind Democratic efforts to increase gun restrictions in the state has a more extensive criminal record than was previously reported according to court records. Although Rep. Rhonda Fields (D-Aurora) has previously claimed that her criminal record of larceny and shoplifting was due to a “dark” and “desperate” time in her life, public records show that her disregard for the state’s laws continued well into her tenure as an elected lawmaker. State court records reveal multiple offenses committed by Fields that were not previously reported, including at least one while holding public office at the state level.

For example, Fields pleaded guilty to writing bad checks in 1998 when she was charged by the Ft. Collins Police Department. Fields was eventually required to pay fines and court costs of $344. The charge could have landed Fields a jail sentence of up to 30 days.

Fields also demonstrated a willful disregard for state and local traffic laws, racking up infractions in 2011, when she was a sitting lawmaker, in 2009, and in 2007. In 2011, she was fined $130 for a lane assignment infraction near the intersection of 6th and Lincoln in Denver. She was fined $130 in 2009 for speeding between 15 and 19 miles per hour over the speed limit at the Denver International Airport. In December of 2007, she was fined $190 for speeding between 10 and 14 miles per hour over the speed limit in Denver.

      A 1989 careless driving charge.

One fact that needs to be understood, liberal solutions are designed to fail so that further liberal solutions can be implemented. Leftists know that gun free zones don’t work, but they create more victims so that emotion can be played to allow so that more feel-good but totally ineffective solutions can be imposed. It’s a cycle that leads to more and more government control and less ability to defend ourselves.

Rape never happens to any female with a whistle, unless the whistle happens to have a date rape drug placed on the mouth piece.

Food for thought….There is a rapid increase in sex slavery in the country, and Obama said once on the View that his daughters were not allowed to have a Facebook page…Hmmmm……Food for thought.

Maybe all the Colorado congressional members should be sent to a rape safe zone and told/forced to just walk around from one place to another for an hour or two and then walk through a couple dark parking lots. During that time there should be a couple hundred pervs brought over from the local jails and told they were on work release for a an hour or two. Then everyone else but the congress members and pervs leave and they should all come back in a couple hours to see how the safe zone, blue boxes and whistles worked.

      Hey Monk:
I am so frustrated right now. Our Senators and Congressmen for my district are both Republicans and are trying to stop this insanity. I am calling my cousins and uncle in Denver, they have been calling their Senators and Congressmen, but both of them have Dems, and these guys and gals have decided that, even though over 70% of the state wide poll, and their constitutes say….NOOOOO…..these guys will simply vote with the Dems and DC. I hope these recall efforts happen very rapidly, plus I have already contacted an attorney to file a class action, unconstitutional lawsuit, as soon as they pass this. I will wait until the law goes into effect, buy a gun, and as soon as they make me pay a tax to does a background check for the purchase. Bam, lawsuit, based on the 1965 civil rights supreme court decision, no civil right can be taxed or infringed upon by a state.
So please pray for my state. I believe we are entering a major fight, and for the last 4 years, colorado has been the center of attack from California interests and liberal influence. It seems they think, if we can destroy Colorado, the rest of the Red States will fall. I am very close to pushing my move to Wyoming, my family is from their, and I am trying to hold out my final move until I retire, but I fear that is being excellerated.

Please Pray for Colorado everyone. Thanks.

      Hey Monk:
Just checked Fox News, they have a huge story “Federal Workers Owe $3.5 Billion in Tax.” But what I love about that, taxes aren’t due until April 15th, they don’t specify is that total this year until april 15th, and how many have filed for extensions. Every year they play the same story, it’s like all of us federal workers are multimillionaires, sipping wine, and driving Mercedes. I for one don’t file my taxes until April, I always have to write a check, and they can wait to get my money.

      Mr or Ms ZIPIT,

This is what you must know:

Insurance? Let me clue you into something. There comes a time for some of us when the only smart option is to self insure. Take auto insurance. I have dozens of speeding tickets. No insurance company is gonna touch me. So I post a bond with the state. Health insurance? Long term care? Biggest rip off going. I pay for everything out of pocket. Of course, you have to have a heckuva lot of money to do that. And I do. You see, I live a life of complete freedom.

So keep punching the clock, paying your premiums and polishing your pennies. one day you might get that trip of a lifetime – to Utah to see Glenn’s No Fireworks 4th of July Patriotpalooza. (I hear they’re planning a retrospective of The Gipper’s lies.)

I’ve never voted for a democrat in my life, and if this young lady learns anything it should be that. Never vote for a democrat. They will painfully listen to her, only to vote for the gun control. They are Godless, self involved, smarter than you, smug, unconstitutional pieces of crap without a lick of common sense.
