What’s the Future for Drones and Local Law Enforcement?
On the heels of Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster, it should be noted that Attorney General Eric Holder’s initial determination that the president would have been able to to kill U.S. Citizens without due process also would have applied to Federal Law Enforcement agencies including the FBI, DHS…the forestry service (Holder has now backed down and clarified).
Still, the advancement of drone technology will undoubtedly change law enforcement tactics forever. In a world in which speed limits are already enforced in some places by aircraft, is it long before there are drones above every highway checking speed limits and issuing tickets?
On ‘Real News‘ Thursday the panel discussed how the use of drones in law enforcement could open a can of worms in our legal system, and how the country may try to handle the delicate balance between civil liberties and security as this new tool becomes readily available.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on March 9, 2013 at 9:03pmWhen are we going to have a discussion about the safety of drones over U.S. skies. What happens when a drone has a malfunction, departs controlled flight and hits an apartment complex or a shopping mall. Who is responsible? What legal recourse will the victims have? With 3000 drones in the skies in the future…it is merely a matter of time.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 6:33pmWhile I have concerns about drones flying over inhabited areas (things do crash) I wonder why everyone is in a tiff over them. After all, if you go out in public whether on the street or your yard you have no expectation of privacy.
And what is the difference whether you are seen by a passing cop in a patrol car, or by the video feed from a passing drone? Is there a difference?
Everyone here seems to have an opinion, give me some reasoned intelligent details.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 8:21pmIt is my understanding that you will not know if a drone is flying over you, and it can kill you within second without anyone knowing what happen. The government can claim they did not do it or the bullet came from a stranger in bush….

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 2:59pmI have a bad feeling that all the years of the term”Police State”
that this might actually be the begining.
Serious…the capability of “constant surveilance” for low cost is too
irresistable for gov. officials.
They are already gleening public and private information at a exponential rate!

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 12:58pmOur local TV news this week reported how happy and hopeful Arizona is that we be awarded the military contract to be the first place to test these drones. About the same time the city town council passed an ordinance to allow the military to impose a partial martial law that would supersede local law whenever the military deems necessary. (Right now it was about Air force jets passing over in city airspace making noise. But one could imagine that including drones, although this was not brought up.) No vote or discussion was allowed.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 9:31amJust remember any weapon designed by man can be defeated by man. The real issue is at what point in time do “We the People” stop using legal means to end the use of invasive technology and begin employing armed military responses.
On many postings, I read that people are preparing but much of it is couched in the “lone wolf” hunker down language. To defeat tyranny we must unite as provided in the 2nd Amendment. We must become a well disciplined militia or face extinction as individuals.
I am not preaching violence and revolution. I am preaching preservation of our Constitution. I have had my fair share of war and I don’t look forward to having it again. However, at some point, we are either lions or lambs.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 9:31amWhat is needed is less Chicken Little rhetoric, fewer conspiracy rants, and more rational discussion of controversial subjects, such as what the panel in the video was engaging in. You posters here serve only to rile up hatred and further rants over every subject. Try and be helpful with your comments, and maybe solutions can be found……

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 8:32amDrones are just another tool and they do have a place. However, that place is not to be used ad-hoc.Just as you wouldn’t use a gun to shoot everyone on the street past 9 o;clock at night, you don’t turn a drone loose to patrol at will. It is easily an unconstitutional invasion of privacy.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 8:31amIt is all part of the arms race we have building in our neighborhoods. The only reason I own guns is because you people own guns. Now that you people are starting to own drones, I will have to buy me one to. Where does this horse **** end. Will I have to buy myself a nuke to get up with the crazy people.

It will be interesting how atheist “that do not comply“ respond ,when they see these evil world leaders ‘walking around with the mark’ with their own eyes.

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 6:44pmPlease point out to me where in the constitution the use use of drones is not allowed. The 4th amendment?
But if you go outside (viewable by the public) you have no expectation of privacy. So whether you’re seen by an actual cop, or by the video feed from a drone monitored by a cop what is the difference?
I am curious how you came to your decision, please explain it to me.
