Rap Mogul Slams NRA: ‘Our Community Is Not Interested in a Corporate Sponsored Gun Group Telling Us What to Do’

Russell Simmons Attacks NRA in New Column

Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons has again lashed out against the National Rifle Association, publishing a column on his website GlobalGrind.com entitled “The NRA & Black People: Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That!”

In the blog post published Thursday Simmons criticizes a new video released from NRA News with an African-American contributor advocating gun rights. The music and fashion magnate accuses the NRA of using fear to make the “defenseless” believe “in interests that are contrary to their very own preservation.” Simmons writes:

I find the message of this new video by the NRA deeply troubling, where the guy in the Yankees hat is advocating that our people arm themselves and fight the government (all under the banner of the NRA). Quite hypocritical of them, as during the Civil Rights movement, when the government was overtly oppressing our people, the NRA was quick to pressure legislatures across the country to get the guns out of the hands of the Black militants who were ready to fight back. I guess those weren’t the “well-regulated militias” they had in mind when they read their version of the Second Amendment. But, now that we have a Black President, and we have made great progress in creating a more equal playing field in America (although we still have much work to do), the NRA is encouraging us to pick up guns again and start poppin’. With smokescreens and a barrage of bullets, the NRA is intentionally playing into the fears of a very few people. Very, very few.

[...]

Our community is not interested in a corporate sponsored gun group telling us what to do, when their real mission is to make more money for the corporations that line their dirty pockets with rolls of cash and silver bullets.

Simmons is the co-founder of the hip-hop label Def Jam Recordings, Phat Farm fashion line, and UniRush Financial, Inc., among other business ventures. With a reported net worth of $340 million, Simmons was a supporter of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Thursday’s column was not Simmons’s first commentary on the NRA, writing on GlobalGrind.com in July:

Only in the land of the free, where politicians can be legally bribed and our democracy is for sale, do citizens have access to weapons of war. Well, I’m not a politician, so the NRA can’t silence me and they certainly ain’t gonna punk me!

The time has come for our nation to face the National Rifle Association and its bullying-tactics.

Following this latest attack on the NRA, the contributor from the Youtube video detested by Simmons, Colion Noir, fired back via Twitter.

Breitbart reports that Noir has been making Youtube videos supporting gun rights for some time, but since his work with NRA News, Noir’s Youtube channel has attracted more than 7 million views.  NRANews announced on March 1 that Noir had been hired by the NRA as a contributor.

Well he obviously didn’t get rich from having an open mind, or his knowledge of history and the US Constitution. The truly sad thing is, is that he thinks he’s part of the solution, when in fact he’s part of the problem!

Well, anyone looking for guidance or wisdom from this “Rap Mogul” should be branded a fool and disregarded as a useful idiot for our ‘dear leader’.

The Low Information Voters know Simmons is a fraud. A limousine liberal stepping out of his ride to join the poor disaffected OWS protesters is a bit too hypocritical to deny…

Who the hell is this guy? Never heard of him. I guess its due to not following the rap and gang culture in America. Does this weirdo realize that the majority of murders are committed by gangs that are into the rap scene, those that wear his style of clothing and live out their lives to his type of music. That music glorifying killing, slapping their ho’s around, dealing drugs, committing robbery and rape?

I guess he doesn’t want his following to try and better themselves and get off of the democrat plantation.

I like how this arrogant fool, who hasn’t been relevant since the late early 80′s, thinks he can speak for an entire demographic. Apparently he thinks people still give a crap what he says. ALL Americans need to arm themselves, not just for protection, but because it is your RIGHT.

Time to start playing the American Card. Every time the Race Card gets played, nix it with the I Am An American card. After 60 plus years of Affirmative Action and the War on Poverty, it is time to call the hands of these race-baiting, and divisive groups and individuals. The Far Left is only doing this because they have been taught to hate America. Michelle and Barack both were. The Black Power / Chicago Seven styled radicals / Bill Ayers types all left a legacy. We are now seeing it in the current Democrat Party whose current leaders were all influenced by Marxist mentors.

Exactly, further WE the people ” gun community” are tired of taking the rap for RAP. Most crimes are committed by a certain group most of which can’t own firearms legally period. We are the majority, I am Not willing to give up any rights enough is enough. Start profiling and leave the Constitution alone.

Where is the war on poverty better seen than in Detroit where they are bulldozing whole areas of the city!! That war was over long ago we are just seeing the “unintended” consequences. Illegal gun crime, gangs, poverty etc…all good stuff. This is what happens when you destroy under the guise of helping.

Why buy retail when you can buy a gun on the streets? Heck, buy a gun with 2+ murders on it and you could buy it pennies on the dollar.

We don’t give a Moses Infidel what happened in the civil war, or the 1960s, we are not going to get “punked” out of our civil rights just because we are told to shut up and get with the program? Notice the pyschological warfare in his statement, he uses the word “punk”, a vile emotional term that has only one purpose, stir up emotions of rage with revenge?

Quite the opposite of those who are in the NRA today, people that tell black people to buy a gun, the government is not going to protect you, and it don’t matter if you are black, white, yellow, or red, without a gun, you can be stalked like a defenseless animal in a gun free zone? You will only be stalked like a defenseless animal if you spit on your civil rights, you tear down that flag, and stomp on it, burn it, and make vile comments about your brothers who want to defend your civil rights and stop the establishment from making money on your misfortunes?

How dare you bring up the subject of racism as a substitute for civil rights? If you call that a community, we call it slavery? Slavery to the corporations who manipulate the system and want to take one of the few things they can’t buy, that spark inside you that tells you, you are a man? The spark inside you that says, when I pull up my zipper today, I am not going to leave a father less child at the end of the day?

We like Kid Rock and the Stones too,
