Taking the Plunge: Wedding Proposal Goes Awry When Massive Wave Sweeps Couple Off Their Feet

A would-be picture perfect marriage proposal took a turn for the wetter when a gigantic wave swept the couple off their feet.

It happened at the tidepools in Laguna Beach, Calif.: a man got down on one knee, pulled out the ring box, then bam — wipeout. The couple was swept back onto the sand, soaking wet, but judging from their kiss at the end, it appeared she said yes.

Equally impressive: the ring wasn’t lost in the surf.

The proposal actually took place in December, but only made waves (yes) on the Internet this week.

It’s either staged or she was unprepared and not excited. Doesn’t look to me like she was too happy about this proposal. Not a typical response for someone that would be excited over a proposal. Not too excited at all. Uncomfortable to watch. Felt sorry for the guy. She never said yes!

      Don’t know the back story.

Hubby and I picked out/bought engagement ring together. When it was ready, he picked it up from the store and told me he would setup a date night to officially give it to me. So there really was no surprise when he gave it to me.

Could be the same situation with them. She probable was thinking….you are giving it to me here!!!!

You might be thinking that because she was showing excitement before he brought out the ring. She knew he was pulling out the ring so her excitement was at an earlier time than the exact moment he opened the case. And also, quite frankly, I think when you spring the question it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise…if it’s a surprise to her than something is wrong.

Look at all the water on the rocks. Completely staged.

Believe nothing you hear, only half of what you see. More true than ever.

Staged. Note that he looks back to time the big wave to hit while he is kneeling. I’ve been on those rocks at that beach. The waves come in patterns. They knew it and took advantage so they could be youtube stars.

Way back when I was 12 years old. I told my father something I believed to be true. I told him it had to be true because I read it in a book. He told me if I beklieved everything I read, I could eat anything I saw. Same goes for the internet and videos!

It’s clearly a staged proposal for purposes of the family history. The wave is clearly not staged. The couple is adorable and may God bless their union with long years, much peace and lots of babies!!!

Jack- so he was hoping the wave would hit him? Im fine with that. Interesting story to tell to the kids even if he hoped it would happen but at the same time, it’s possible no waves would have come at the moment.

Because you can see the rocks are wet when they start which means the waves were splashing up before they got there. So either it was staged or……….. they are one stupid couple.

Yeah you are right, or it was Bush or it was the sequestration. Yeah that’s it. Maybe its a combination of both with a little bit of global warming thrown in? Either way, its the Republicans fault.

OMG! That wave was way too big for this time of year… It is part of the polar ice caps melting, due to global warming/climate change/climate disruption, that caused this huge wave… Fear for your lives… Run, run, away…

Anybody who has been around the ocean knows that waves come in as a “series of waves”… You can always tell which one in a series is going to be the biggest… in fact you can count them… Even Papion knew that when he escaped from Devil’s Island on the 7th wave that carried him out to sea while riding a raft made of coconuts bundled together… This guy was wave counting for the camera… I have no respect for him as a man and I hope his marriage ends in a bitter divorce where he looses everything and ends up committing suicide!

Socialist- stop being an idiot. This page isn’t even about Obama. OF course the rocks Did someone hack your account? Of course the rocks are wet, they’re against the bloody ocean! The most you can say is that he may have wanted the wave to come. It’s also possible he thought no wave would hit him while he was up there for the short period of time.

Fortunately, they will never get a California license to breed!

Say, here’s an idea, I’ll propose to her and risk having us both either:
    a) smash our heads on the rocks, or
    b) swept away by the undertow.

But the you-tube video will be great either way!

Dear God in heaven, please stop these people from reproducing…

    Two things.
    1. They are lucky no one died. Water is powerful, and people have in fact died doing this. Memory tells me one was in the last year or so.

    2. Is it my imagination, or is it possible this was slightly staged. I say slightly because he obviously had no control over the power of an individual wave, but he glances off to the right part of the screen for a fairly long time….almost as if he was timing his proposal so that they would get hit with a wave or at least splashed. Lots of cameras were right there.

A ‘perfect’ marriage proposal would be a boring story not worth telling. This one will be remembered by the family forever, therefor it’s perfect.
