Paul Krugman: Conservative Facts Are ‘Non-Facts’

Liberal economist Paul Krugman, frequently known for his scathing attacks on Republicans, accused Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) of peddling “non-facts” to his face on ABC’s “This Week.” The attack followed a scathing back and forth between Johnson and Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz over the state of negotiations regarding entitlement spending between the White House and Republicans in Congress, in which Wasserman-Schultz accused Republicans of being disorganized and misinformed, and Ron Johnson accused Democrats of bargaining in bad faith, and ignoring the budget’s many problems.

It was at this point that Krugman jumped in. “Let’s start with the facts. And we’ve run aground right there. We cannot agree,” Krugman laughed.

“We’ve got to agree on the facts,” Johnson retorted.

“But your facts are false,” Krugman snapped. “The Social Security thing. Social Security is — it has a designated revenue base, it has a trust fund based on the designated revenue base. You can’t change the rules midstream.”

“Here’s the problem with the trust fund,” Johnson interjected. “The federal government owns U.S. Treasury Bonds. It’s the same thing as if you have $20, you spend it, and by the way, that money’s spent, it’s gone. You write yourself a note for $20, stick it in your pocket and say ‘I’ve got twenty bucks.’ No, you don’t, you have a note you have to sell on the open market. The trust fund is a fiction. It doesn’t — it has no value to the federal government.”

“If you think of Social Security as not being part of the federal government, then there’s no such thing as a Social Security problem, it’s just part of the general budget.”

Crosstalk ensued for a few seconds before Krugman triumphantly finished, “It’s important to realize the facts that are being brought out are, in fact, non-facts and how do we go from there?”

“They’re absolute facts!” Johnson snapped.

“As Pat Moynihan said, ‘everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts,’” Washington Post columnist George Will cut in.

THE biggest “TELL” against Liberals – especially Communists/Socialist/Marxist Liberals is they accuse their opposition of doing EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO.

Krugman KNOWS that the only way he can deflect the REALIZATION that OBAMA is doing great HARM to AMERICA and to keep the MARXIST movement alive is for Journalists and Liberal mouth pieces to accuse the PATRIOTS of doing the miserable things the Marxists creeps do!! The other thing they love to do is call us Racists. This is the proof any intelligent person needs to understand about “who is telling the truth”. Not everyone who opens their mouths and/or writes against that freak in the WH is a racist (that man is 1/2 white anyway, dopes) or belong to the “ADD A FACT” club like the Liberals. to the ORIGINAL question – 13th iman

      PRINT MORE MONEY!!

      It’s great.

Printing tons of excess cash devalues the debts you already OWE.
Then you can effectively pay off OLD debts at decreased value with NEW money
      that has even LESS value.

Of course it hurts the economy in the LONG run as inflation takes hold but as long as you aren’t
in office when that happens it will be someone ELSE’S fault.

Do you suppose BigO will help JEB Bush get elected so he can continue to BLAME BUSH???

And the real kicker is that his “constichency” gets HAPPIER as they see larger welfare checks thanks to the inflated OBAMA money – along with free cell phones – and, being too STUPID to see how the process actually works they become increasingly likely to re-elect Obama’s chosen follower.

Now BigO just has to choose between Hilldog and Jeb!
Either way, it won’t be HIS fault.

The answer to your question is; because they can spend more and more money. They will continue to print and spend until they have de-leveraged us from the massive black hole (hundreds of trillions) the bankers created in the derivatives/mortgage backed securities market. And to be fair, we are to blame as well. Personal debt is 350% of GDP. Or until we hyper inflate. Or the rest of the world decides not to take treasuries anymore. Or a host of possibilities. None end well for the people.

Why haven’t there been any prosecutions? Ha ha, because they didn’t want to pull to hard on that string for fear that the masses would see how the federal government has allowed this to happen both criminally and negligently. Complete lawlessness.

It’s time to realize there is no going back, no restoration, no stopping this train. What they are doing is trying to gently land us without causing panic. Hence the spending without regard to the future. They can’t control everything and it’s inevitable that eventually the pain will surface. They are preparing for that as I write. Making it hard to get ammo. Buying armored vehicles etc.

Historically, governments collapse in these situations. Like a cornered animal, government will do anything to cling to power. You’ve noticed the remodeling and wondered. Now recognize it’s to be our new style government when the wheels come off. It will promise equality for all, like Marx, but will deliver Slavery for all.

      I hate to continue but…

As the days go by the new “structure” is becoming more and more visible. The de-leveraging is real. It will destroy what we thought was real wealth in this country. Government preparing for civil unrest is real. Media will tell you everything is fine all the way to the end just like Baghdad Bob saying the US military was not there as an M1 Abrams rolled past. Current headlines are a perfect example. Stocks hit all time high, unemployment ticks down etc.

I question myself. So I look at the fundamentals and they’re just not there. Remove all the politics and fodder and all I see is a government preparing for civil unrest and our central bank creating money not backed by anything like there is no tomorrow. In fact every central bank, at least in the west, is pumping money unlimited. Historically, that never works out well.

So what about this new “system”. It seems to be a re-tooling of Marxism. An attempt to have democracy and a financial system like Marx envisioned. Marx knew that isn’t possible. Economic freedom is non separable. This has always been the progressive dream to have democracy and a collective economic system. We have many examples of how that didn’t work out in the past. It always turns to totalitarianism. When asked why Russia didn’t stick with true communism, Stalin said it was impractical. That they would eventually return the reins to the workers. They never did.

      Happy Monday everyone!

How can we spend more than we take in year after year? Easy. Individuals do it all the time…and eventually file bankruptcy. Government seems to feel like they are ‘above’ this eventual outcome, mainly becuase they just print more money when needed, but they are not. The bills will come due eventually.

The problem with Social Security is that it is a pyramid scheme which relies on an ever-increasing base of ‘new’ workers, and positive economic growth to ensure the new workers have jobs. Problem is the baby-boomers are retiring (stressing the system,) the influx of new workers is on the decline and the economy is poor. The longer we wait to address these issues, the worse it will be for everyone.

It is a waste of time pointing out the facts and relying on logic to carry the day. Mr Krugman, like so many others has be told to obfuscate, to distract, and to confuse.

      To lie.

It was the same thing that Robert Gibbs, the previous White House press secretary, was told to do over the drone program, as he now admits:

I don’t want Paul Krugman, or anyone like him, as a fellow citizen of any country in which I or my family have a citizenship stake. These people are Marxists. Totalitarians. Utopians. (Insane). They have been slow walking the US Constitution to the gallows for decades.

Now, Paul Krugman and his (Nobel accredited) comrades have their chance to put an end to Constitutionalists with a President, Senate, Supreme Court and news media hopelessly against us. I know that, you know that, and most people here know that…

      The question is: Now what?

      I believe preparation is key.

You may be right – there is nothing the little guy can do,

There may be many of us, but we lack organization (on a large scale).

I, for one, am grateful that I belong to a church that preaches preparedness – both temporally and spiritually. We are a close knit ‘family’ with a respected hierarchy. I suggest people clump together with like-minded others.

I also suggest keeping calm and resisting the urge to ‘rise up’; blessed are the peacemakers.

Other than that…love your family…love your fellow man…and love God.

No one can question the intelligence or talent of Jewish people but to pretend that they have minimal influence on national or world affairs is ludicrous.

In the US Senate 13 members are Jewish 11(D),2(I) in the House 27 members are Jewish 26(D) 1 (R).

In the news media Jews dominate ownership and all levels of management to the “Journalist”.

In Hollywood same story Jews dominate ownership ,producers ,directors ,actors .

In business and banking there is no shortage of Jewish fat cats.

This info is easy to confirm it is all out there on the web.

To pretend that somehow with all this power and influence that Jews should somehow be exempt of blame from the ills of the country and the world (Not saying they are completely to blame, naturally but they share a significant part ) then chalking any criticism of Jews in these powerful positions up to antisemitism is dishonest or delusional .

I’m not antisemitic, Jews have done a great deal of good in the world as well but we can’t ignore harm and evil no matter the source ,color ,religion ,gender ,political party . To ignore it because you belong to a group ,allows evil to take root and we get ,,,,,well we get what we now have.

Earlier today Glenn said that Krugman has always been wrong, and Glenn was on-target. A few years ago I had a beef with Krugman over something he had said about the USA being in Iraq. A small battle ensued where I went back on his NYT’s articles for 3 years and ripped them apart. He usually writes one article a week for syndication with the NYT’s being his biggest fan. Out of all of the articles he wrote for those prior 3 years (a little over 700 articles) I found 3 that he got right. The take-away for this is… if you start to read an article, then suddenly you see the author is Paul Krugman, stop and go on to something more productive.

Liberalism is a mental disorder (Thanks Mike Savage) stemming from infantile/childhood insecurities that cause them to view the government as the nation’s nanny. It’s like a bunch of 12 year olds that keep adding rules and changing the board game to gain advantage over the other players of the game. They never mentally developed from that stage of life. They don’t view other people as real, they view them as pawns in the game. They could care less about reality or about the effects of their “new rules.” And those in high positions can even arrange for those rules to not apply to them.

So what are the facts. Is that there is a big file cabinet in the basement of the IRS with 5 trillion dollars in it. Or did they raid that file cabinet a very long time ago and put IOUs in there. When someone gets their SS payment they have to print money to cash that IOU and then pay out. Krugman was all for and minting the 2 trillion dollar coin and then do it 8 times and the debt is paid. Just print more money. As long as there is ink and paper, there is no debt.

The facts are that there is a trust fund, sorta. It has been raided long ago. Vietnam era to be precise. It does in fact have a revenue, the FICA tax that comes out of your check. But FICA does not cover the bill and the rest is debt, also known as the general fund. No one in Washington will speak the truth about SS/Medicare. They will talk generalities or in some cases, plan nonsense.

Krugman is an academic economist that deals mainly in theory. Krugman pretending there is no problem with SS/Medicare is disingenuous at best. But as usual, you couldn’t really get the facts from this “show”.

At some point this little money creation train ride will be over and it will be painfully obvious to everyone the ride they have taken us on. They may as well print till the cows come home. Probably past the point of no return. And what will be the prize when the train finally comes to a rest in a giant heap of metal and broken dreams….A NEW STYLE GOVERNMENT! YAY!

It is understood that by referring to facts as non facts is a Communist propaganda tactic.
It is either fact or fiction but Krugman is also a bed wetting Neo Bolshevik that for some reason made it to the spotlight and all you useful idiots revere him. I get it. "A little cowardly bed wetter can make it big time, so can I! Hooray Paul Krugman!"

I wonder, what’s the bigger fantasy: A system running a deficet of over a trillion dollars annually, already closing on 17 trillion lost and we are to accept that everything is okay, that the rich will be able to sustain this system with their tax revenue. Or a system where government has to cut back it’s operations (reality it will have to be much further than even Mr. Ryan is willing to go).

Which seems like the bigger fantasy to you Verce?

If You Libs are so great why does your leaders focus on a new socialist healthcare while the country is economically exploding? They also talked about drones.. NY Times columnist Paul Krugman has difficulty understanding how one can support water boarding but still be against drones.

Let me help you, Mr. Krugman. First, who was talking about water boarding? Straw man thrown in to invoke the horror of GW Bush. Second, who said the filibuster team was promoting water boarding? Third, the filibuster team was not saying they were “against drones” in general; they were asking for answers as to how the administration would use them pertaining to US citizens. As citizens, we all have the right to know under what parameters are government is operating and if they are acting in accordance with the Constitution.

Finally, an interrogation technique against a prisoner rightfully in custody vs. vaporizing an American citizen without due process. Hmm, which one do you think is worse?

Same old song and dance. Blame the gop, its easier to put the blame on them than to realize that they have no budget, no plans for social security, Medicare. Just following the boy king Obama’s lead. Let’s not forget the others in this group. Reid, Pelosi, and our resident boot locker Biden. They’ll send these people to try to force their views by yelling and screaming at them. How is this amount of education so wasted. Let Adam corolla talk to them, and see who caves in first. The liars, or the one telling the truth.

Krugman wouldn’t know the Truth if it hit him in the mouth. All the surplus money that did not go out covering SS obligations was taken and replaced with IOUs in the form of US Bonds. The reality is one dollar from say 1990 bought one 1lb loaf of bread, with the governments printing money around the clock for the last 4 years it now can buy 1/2 of that loaf. With the cost of Medical care exploding that dollar that went into US Bonds will buy 1/4 of that loaf. Washington took a dollar that was worth something and in time replace it with a worthless dollar.

I just wish I had been able to invest my 20.00$ myself. I would have at the very least been able to keep up with (at the very least) inflation over my 447 years of dumping both my money and my employers share into a lock box that netted me 0 in interest .Plus what we gave away to people who pay nothing or little into it over my life time. But I learned along time ago. Only a politician can borrow 20.00 $ pay me back 10.00$ and say we both lost.

Not surprisingly, Krugman is actually wrong here. There is no “Social Security trust fund.” Social Security is part of the general budget, and that is why it’s dangerous. If it had its own separate funds, then it couldn’t bring down the government if and when it collapses. Regardless of what tag you put on it, the funds that keep Social Security alive are part of the general budget of the United States.

By the way, this was never supposed to be the case. It was supposed to be separate from general budgeting.

Two progressive pieces of legislation that came DIRECTLY out of FDR’s ‘Public Policy.’ and sold to our grandparents as ‘good…’ The first was the Social (in) Security Act — which reads in part “…. and for OTHER purposes…” The second was the implication of the ‘required’ “marriage LICENSE” — BOTH used to gain control and jurisdiction OVER the People (got to volunteer, ya see) — Now the 4th generation accepts it as ‘fact.’ It just ain’t so — :-)
