Robber Confronts 81-Year-Old Man and Demands ‘Everything You Got’ — Turns Out, What He Had Was a .38-Caliber Revolver

81 Year Old Man Confronts, Shoots Robber in Ocala, Florida

As he was driving home on Sunday night, 81-year-old Florida resident James Stevens said he knew something was amiss after he realized a 2010 Kia had been following him for about 20 minutes.

Stevens wasn’t about to lead the man tailing him to his Ocala, Fla. home, so he pulled over in a field. Sure enough, the Kia also stopped. In retrospect, the suspected robber would tell you he should’ve just kept on driving.

The quick-thinking 81-year-old then retrieved his .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and got out of his truck, according to Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Stevens told investigators that the driver of the Kia — later identified as Lonnie Lorenza Hollingsworth Jr., 28 — got out of the vehicle, approached him and demanded “everything you got,” reports state.

“I didn’t want to shoot him, but I had to. I shot him,” Stevens told deputies.

According to evidence photos, it appears that Stevens fired four rounds from the six-shot revolver.

Hollingsworth was shot once in the abdomen and was lying in the grass motionless when the first deputy arrived. The deputy began performing CPR until an ambulance arrived and paramedics took over. Hollingsworth was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition Monday afternoon.

Michelle Barron, a resident in the area of the shooting, called 911 and mistakenly thought Hollingsworth was dead.

“We have a dead person out here,” Barron told the 911 operator. “The guy that lives across the street was parking his truck in the field and someone tried to rob him and he shot him and killed him.”

Hollingsworth has had numerous run-ins with the law and was convicted in 2008 of carrying a concealed firearm and altering the serial number of a firearm. He also was charged with wearing a bulletproof vest in the commission of an attempted crime, but that charge was dropped.

Hollingsworth did not have a weapon Sunday, reports noted.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the incident. No charges had been filed late Monday.

I like these happy ending stories! It is a shame that those who attempt to rob do not read these GREAT outcomes!

First off, I hope this story is as Mr. Stevens describes it because I do love stories that end with the bad guy getting what he deserves. That said, a lot of this story doesn’t make sense. Following some random old guy around for 20 minutes just hoping you might get a chance to rob him doesn’t sound like a very effective way to steal. And, at what point did the bad guy say “Give me everything you got?” It sounds like they both got out of their cars approximately together and Mr Stevens came out holding a gun.

“No charges had been filed late Monday.” But if these authorities are liberal gun haters, you can bet that they will pursue every avenue possible to destroy this man for having stood up to this criminal. They are saying, ‘We liberals absolutely despise anyone presuming to do anything to prevent themselves from being harmed. You have no right to do anything in your own behalf other than try to call for police help and then cower in hope that they arrive in time to save you. It is high time that you recognize that we in government are the masters and you are nothing more than our slaves, only to be our useful pawns to completely control and confiscate your money for our every desire.’

They may not get us, but the next generation will be perfectly indoctrinated into this mindset. Young people in school are being trained to not stand up for themselves against bullies, nor attempt to protect others from potential harm when authoritative adults are not around. Such as: the boy who was recently suspended for disarming a student who was threatening another on a bus with a gun, when what he deserved was a special assembly at the school and given an award and a hero’s party. He most possibly prevented a funeral or two, or many. Freaking progressives……make me sick.

The government is responsible for the attempted robbery AND that piece of crap getting shot. Posession of firearm with serial # altered in 2008. IF the government would enforce the gun laws ALREADY ON THE BOOKS, that punk would be looking at getting out of prison for the 2008 crime in 2018. Holder is responsible for this shooting, not the geezer just defending himself in Fl. All the liberals like to whine about people having a thug take their gun away and use it on them. That is exactly what would have happened here, if the thug had picked on a ball-less liberal puke.

.38 caliber, especially + P ammunition, is an excellent personal defense round. We have all heard stories of someone armed with a 380 handgun shooting their assailant multiple time and they keep coming after the victim.
But here according to the story only one round out of four shot hit the attacker (which is reality in personal defense situations and exactly why larger capacity magazine are absolutely necessary for adequate personal defense), and he went down and stayed down.
Keep this in mind when selecting your personal defense weapon (that’s what our Imperial Government calls it) and always use hollow point ammo, because it is more effective at stopping an attacker and safer for others as it will stay in the intended target, instead of passing through and possibly hitting an innocent bystander.

Can you talk on the cell phone and drive in Florida? Remember, our wonderful government is taking away our rights! Most places you can’t use your phone and drive, and they want to take away your right to own guns. Can THXLL38 and his buddies explain what we are to do next? Besides, I thought most Liberals hated guns! You are a Liberal aren’t you THXLL38?

I am a local Ocala resident and saw this on a local news station at 5:30… The news station repeats local news at 6pm also but this story had Been pulled and replaced with one where someone was being charged for buying the bulletts in a fatal shooting in Orlando… Coincidentally we had legislation introduced in the state legislature same day to require anger management courses before buying ammunition…. Obvious media bias, all other stories were about armed home invasion/ gun violence. It’s time for people to WAKE UP and realize what’s going on and demand real news reporting instead of political manipulations. I salute the blaze for picking up this story where the local news tossed it aside.

When these thugs try to rob someone, what they are saying is “I’m not sure I want to live anymore”.
They don’t care if you die, why should you care if they die in their attempt to kill and rob you?

I feel really bad for the old man who pulled the trigger. One, he’s living in Marion County, and a resident of Ocala, Florida. I lived in Marion County for 30+ years before leaving the state in 2008 for Oklahoma.

Give the Sheriff and his deputies some time. They will find a way to charge the senior citizen with a crime. Deputy Pudlo is especially corrupt. The night somebody broke into my house, set up my car and let it drive itself across the street into a tree, a message from local drug dealers who felt I should be warned… and I later learned they used a ‘bump’ key to silently break in to send the message… that Deputy told me to my face that if the detective can’t find fingerprints, he would arrest me for filing a false police report. I told him to leave, and I called the Sheriff and explained to his answering machine why he lost my vote. They never called back.

So yes, in Marion County, Florida, the innocent do go to jail. The innocent will get charged with a crime. Just you all wait until this story gets updated. You’ll see. Yeah, I’m that confident of their corruption out there.

I do not have a problem with someone defending himself but he could have done it different. The guy could have had a vest on. If you have no cell phone act like you have one. Put your hand up to your head and drive like your drunk.

And only regret that he didn’t fire 6, and make so they would have picked him up in a body bag and put him out with the trash.
