The Exact Moment a Crazy Critter Crashes a Soccer Match and Bites Player

It wasn’t a wild goose chase at a Sunday Swiss soccer match, but it was close. Instead, it was a wild marten chase.

During the match between Thun and Zurich, a marten decided to crash the party and have his way on the pitch. The fury little creature evaded capture on several occasions. In fact, at one point the referee whistled play to restart after the animal finally ran off, only to have to stop it all over again after the animal decided it hadn’t had enough time in the spotlight. That’s when Zurich player Loris Benito had enough. Benito decided to capture it and carry it off, and paid the price with a bite on the picture:

But that wasn’t the end! Even after Benito corralled the creature and carried him off, it reappeared. That led to one of the goalkeepers — with his gloves shielding him from bites — catching the marten again and bringing him off once and for all. Of course there is video:

“In hindsight, it was obviously foolish of me [to try and catch it],” Benito explained after the match. “Who knows what diseases the animal had. But I wanted to play the match and now I simply trust my immune system.”

Zurich ended up winning 4-0.

I have one living under my wood shed. Are they cool? Yes. Friendly, cute and snugglable? NO. Very efficient little predators. They love field mice, as well as chickens and baby ducks. They truly hate cats.My frriends know the rules… don’t mess with Ermine Munster!

THAT was definitely the most exciting part of that game… Which, since it is a Soccer game, isn’t all that surprising…

Poor animal… It’s going to have to be tested to make sure it didn’t catch anything (Like being a wussy) from that Soccer Player…

Seriously, what is with Soccer players… I have played Soccer before, and besides basketball, it was the lamest and most boring sport I could imagine… I seriously think Curling is more interesting…

Why didn’t they just use the Martin Collection Nets that they have on hand at all of the soccer venues ?

A Martin is not a kittie cat it is a mean little predator and it probably had rabies to be around people like that. The second guy at least wore gloves. I hope the first guy is okay but I’m sure he learned a lessen.

Never grab a wild animal by the back of the neck so it can’t harm you, always grab it in the middle, where it can turn around and bite you?

At least the guy laughed about it and admitted that was something he would never do again, nice.
