Black Smoke Emerges From Sistine Chapel Chimney: No New Pope Yet

VATICAN CITY (TheBlaze/AP) — Black smoke has poured from the Sistine Chapel chimney, signaling that cardinals have failed to elect a pope on their first try.

Black Smoke Emerges From Sistine Chapel: Theres No New Pope Yet

Black smoke emerges from the chimney on the roof of the Sistine Chapel, in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, Tuesday, March 12, 2013. The black smoke indicates that the new pope has not been elected yet. (AP Photo/Dmitry Lovetsky)

The cardinals held the first day of the conclave Tuesday deeply divided over the problems of the church and who best among them could fix them following the stunning resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. The Vatican made clear it didn’t expect a winner on the first ballot.

The cardinals now return to the Vatican’s Santa Marta hotel for the night. They return to the Apostolic Palace for Mass Wednesday morning and a new round of voting. As TheBlaze reported earlier today, the voting process follows very strict protocol.

The supreme one issues fatwa? Why? Sharia is not a thing of stone. It is the works of men placed upon the Rock of Mohammad.

Better that the supreme one put his nose in the book and free the Women of Islam from the yoke of foulness. The Women of Islam are fully half of all Islam. Islam can not stand if half of it is not equal. It can not walk if half of it is stunted.

Put then they nose in the Book of the People or vain supreme and write Sharia as God would have it written. Without hatred towards women.

“…stunning resignation of Pope Benedict XVI”

The Pope stepped down because he knows what’s coming. He’s a Pope, not a government military. All the world governments are on the same page for WW3. This Pope is not interested on being on that page promoting violence. Violence is gross. He wants no part of it so he stepped down. He doesn’t want to scare you or start a conflict so he’s keeping his thoughts on the subject to himself. I’m sure he has prayed for the world. His leaving is but a quiet message. Think for yourselves.

The only person they will have to give his job to is to someone who is willing to play the war game.

Too bad the world governments can’t just reconfigure things without a war. Words are more powerful than blood, and there is no mess to clean up afterwards, no hearts broken. I don’t like war. I want everyone to get along. I guess all the military trucks in the USA are for when the gov’t stops paying out free food stamps and welfare????? For sure those people will riot in the streets – and that’s half of this country. That’s about 175 million people. There are not many trucks if it were that many people… transporting them to…. (ugh). I hope this war only lasts 5 minutes. Instead of seeing roadkill such as rabbits, now we’re supposed to see people? Little babies? Humans are the lowest form of life to plan something out so inhumanely like this. I hope the old Pope isn’t on the hit list.

If you believe with all your heart that Jesus is Christ our Lord & Savior, then by the grace of God your saved! I don’t pray to marry, idols and really don’t believe anyone is my father on this earth at this point in time! But that is my feelings with all honesty! I do believe Jesus will return and all will be set right! Many will confess to be Jesus! Scary times are coming and many will flock to those who claim to be the one! I don’t trust anyone on this earth right now! I see so much greed, hardships and people that play with you when your looking for work! I see so many things wrong with this world and it’s only getting worse! I feel sorry for the children of tomorrow!

My hope is that this selection of a new pope will mean someone who can lead the church out of the darkness and sex scandals that have plagued it for decades. I am not particularly concerned with from what country they hail but would like someone younger in age that is more in touch. No clue about the process or if that is possible but I am just musing….

But what would you expect from a Babylon Mystery religion that hides behind a facade of Christianity and is more concerned with power, wealth and satisfying unnatural lusts than with bringing sinners to Christ.

1 The supposed prophecy of St Malachy is a forgery
2 The last Pope listed is not numbered. TheGloria Olivae is listed as #111. The next name on the list is unnumbered. Which could mean there are several popes between “Glory of the Olive” and Peter the Roman.
3 The prophecy does not say what you imply. “Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.” You read “will pasture his sheep” and see him introducing the beast? Kind of a stretch. A shepherd’s job is to protect the sheep from the beasts.
4 Of the 111 “predictions” that have come to pass, the vast majority of them are wildly inaccurate and require all sorts of mental gymnastics to even remotely sound plausible.
5 You are as accurate about the next pope as you are about Babylon

      Your hate is showing, “Christian”

I’ll try to answer your question.
Historically, the eligible cardinals conduct a secret ballot until someone receives a vote of two-thirds plus one. The ballots were burned after each vote. Black smoke (straw was mixed with the ballots) indicates a failed ballot, white smoke means a new pope has been elected. Since the cardinals met in isolation, this was the only way to inform the public about the proceedings.
Because the Conclave (a secret or confidential meeting) was held in total isolation from the outside world this was the only way to communicate. To open a door or window would allow for possible outside influence. Theoretically, the person who would “raise a flag” to notify the public could see someone with a sign or something, then go inside and spread the news. (i.e. he could see a sign that said: King Somebody says elect Cardinal X or your all dead)
The Church teaches that Jesus established His church and allowed for apostolic succession with the Holy Spirit as it’s guide. The Cardinals are locked up with no outside interference hopefully to allow the Holy Spirit to do his work. The old joke goes: The Holy Spirit has already picked the next Pope, the only question is will the Cardinals agree.
Also, the smoke is meant to represent the temporary nature of earthly glory. Popes come and go, but the papacy, one of the world’s enduring institutions, continues to provide spiritual guidance.

I am not Catholic yet the symbolism is what it is. Dark smoke indicates that the Cardinals still hold self before God and submitt to worldly things (like politics). Perhaps they will attend the Apostolic Mass seeking each to submit to to God as Christ exorts them. God speaks best when men remain silent.

If this were Gods church, you would not have to ask that question. God is unchanging, therefore so should his prophet be unchanging in the ways of the Gospel. It is not from God if one Pope opposes gay lifestyles, yet the next embraces gay lifestyles. Only to have the next oppose it again. God has made His view on morality and other topics very obvious and will never change it. It is either right or wrong. It is not up to the Pope or Prophet or any other church leader to change it. That is the sign of a false church.

And what’s with the black smoke having a negative connotation, why not white smoke for the screw-ups and black smoke to celebrate the new Pope. It all links back to the Obama haters.

[9] And call none your father upon earth; for one is your father, who is in heaven. [10] Neither be ye called masters; for one is your master, Christ.

      Traditional Catholic Douay-Rheims Bible

Matthew Chapter 23 Verse 9 and 10 with Catholic foot notes on verse 9

[9] And call none your father upon earth; for one is your father, who is in heaven. [10] Neither be ye called masters; for one is your master, Christ.

Explanation written in the Bible of Verse [9] Call none your father upon earth: Neither be ye called masters. The meaning is that our Father in heaven is incomparably more to be regarded, than any father upon earth: and no master to be followed, who would lead us away from Christ. But this does not hinder but that we are by the law of God to have a due respect both for our parents and spiritual fathers, (1 Cor. 4. 15) and for our masters and teachers.

      Dear OMEGA309,

Short answer it is an example of rabbinic hyperbole which was common teaching method in Jesus’s time; another example of rabbinic hyperbole can be found in Matthew 5:29.

Moreover St. Paul did not take Jesus literally:

“I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel”

      1 Cor. 4:14–15

Let me ask you three questions in regard to your comment: “when its your life that is at stake are you positive that your religion is more important than Gods word”.

      1. What came first the Church that Christ Founded or the Bible?

      2. How do you know that the books in the bible belong in the bible if it wasn’t for the Catholic Church who gave us the cannon of the New Testament?

      3. According to the bible what is the Pillar and Foundation of Truth? Is it the bible or the Church?

      Dear Omega309:

In Matthew 16 we see how Christ 1) only founded one church, 2) that Peter was appointed as the head of that Church and 3) and that Jesus gave authority to that Church:

“Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

      Matthew 16:16-19

Peter was the Rock upon which Christ founded his Church. I agree with you a church is not merely a building but a visible institution that give witness of his love and his mercy to the world:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden…in the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”.

      Mathew 5:14 and 16

The third point is a Red Herring argument that distract from the main point of our discussion however I will like to address it. Your example presupposes that the Catholic Church repress bible translations over the centuries and condemned people who dare to translated it. However nothing is further from the truth.

However nothing is further from the truth. The Catholic Church for about 2,000 years has defended and promoted the love and study of the bible and many translation to the vernacular language where sponsored by the Catholic Church before reformation.

“To be ignorant of Scripture is to be ignorant of Christ”.

      St. Jerome

400AD Translation in Latin by St. Jerome. Latin was the vernacular language of the time.

St. Bede started translating the Gospel of St. John into English around the 8 century.

1280AD Translated into Spanish (Biblia Alfonsina)
1430AD Translated into Spanish from Hebrew (Biblia del Duque the Alba).

1492AD Translated into Italian by Nicholas de Nardo

13 and 14 Century Translation into French…also the King John the Good Bible (although thought to be incomplete)…multiple different translations…

1477AD translated into German…among other translation in Low German. However there are numerous partial vernacular versions that go back to the seventh and eighth centuries.

1475AD translated into Dutch (at Delft).

By 1470 most if not all the bible was translated in Scandinavian languages.

Still you haven’t answered my question: How do you know that the books in the bible are inspired if it wasn’t for the Catholic Church…why don’t you accept the Gospel of Peter as inspired? If it wasn’t for the Church father who rejected it…or why do you accept Revelation when many in early church did not accepted it?

TraditionalCatholic. That is what I said. Protestants will say we put book in the Bible and that is why they took them out. They ignore the history of why those books were included and the fact that the Catholic Church composed the Bible.

Jesus was wrong until 1500 years after his death AND he must really didn’t come to unite because there are thousands of denominations that all teach different things about Jesus or to be more precise the Gospel, which doesn’t mean just the first four book of the bible, but Christian truth, like the Trinity and the hyperstatic union. So lets all be illogical and divide ourselves from Orthodoxy and make ourselves look stupid by arguing about Jesus, and neglect the fact that the Catholic Church already has the absolute truth about him and his Vicar to protect against Heresy.

They had to use black smoke before using white smoke, otherwise they would be called a racist, neo-Nazi, skin head organization.

I find this interesting this whole process. One thing I can’t quite understand though. I was born and raised a Catholic, an alter boy, sang on the choir, Catholic grade school, high school and 1 semester of Catholic College, the whole 9 yards but the thing is: This is 2013 why do they wear those silly clothes. I bet if Jesus was still operating here intead of Heaven that he would find this silly too. I mean they have modern TV’s and communication devices get with it. I’m not saying they should change their principles but the clothes ???

Perhaps as Shakespeare wrote, “The world is a stage and we are all actors upon it”. Costumes are a prop not unlike a Hollywood strumpet holding a gun. They both make a statement. That being a given, I believe that tie-dyed jeans would be cool, if they had bell bottoms!

lol… you would prefer chinos and golf shirts?

I think there’s something to be said for traditional garb. Imagine if our Supreme Court showed up in jean shorts and flip-flops instead of robes.
Hell- in Britain they still wear the powdered wigs.

I agree with your observation. The wonderful thing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that it never changes. The clothing styles can change, mans opinions on gays can change, mans opinions on marijuana use can change, but the Gospel of Jesus Christ will never change. The 10 commandments will never change. The lessons of love, service, charity, compassion… will always be the basis of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Catholic church does not have the LIVING Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are stuck back in the days that Jesus was here on the earth. Their lack of a LIVING prophet has caused them to remain stagnant. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is LIVING. The Pope is just a fixture of the Catholic church without much purpose, other than to be seen by the followers as a symbol of leadership.

The Church of Jesus Christ has a LIVING prophet to receive Gods will on the earth today. I challenge you to compare the leaders of all churches and how they are “selected”. If a leader was called of God, would there be a need for campaigning? Who are these people fooling by trying to campaign for the JOB of Pope. Would there be a need for repeated voting? God knows who He wants to run His church and his APOSTLES would be given the inspiration of who was to be the next PROPHET. If the Catholic church was Gods true church, the vote would be unanimous the first time, unless those voting are not following Gods will.

East is right. Tradition. But it also serves other functions and allows individuals to identify their positions and responsibilities at a glance, much like military uniforms. The argument won if it breeds avarice, or sinful pride is something for the internal philosophers/Theologians to debate.

Priests and Bishops wear the clothes that God commanded them to wear in EX 28. The only part of God’s law that changed are the ones Jesus changed. Everything else is still valid. The questions I have for protestants is why isn’t your priest/minister wearing the priesrly vestments?

      Exodus 28

28 “Then bring near to yourself Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the sons of Israel, to minister as priest to Me—Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons. 2 You shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. 3 You shall speak to all the skillful persons whom I have endowed with the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister as priest to Me. 4 These are the garments which they shall make: a breastpiece and an ephod and a robe and a tunic of checkered work, a turban and a sash, and they shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and his sons, that he may minister as priest to Me. 5 They shall take the gold and the blue and the purple and the scarlet material and the fine linen.

Nothing in the New Testament requires abolition of priestly vestments.

Did Christ wear Priestly garb? He wore the robe of the priesthood, but this is not a physical robe, rather an intangible authority.

      Dear RX4NV,

I completely agree with you that the Gospel of Jesus never changes and that is why for about 2,000 years the teachings of the Catholic Church on faith and morals have never change irrespectively of cultural trends, bad Popes or religious persecutions, e.g. Napoleon and Stalin.

The fullness of revelation was given by Christ and was closed by the death of the last apostle however that does not implied that we cannot grow in our understanding of that unchanging revelation. That is why Christ founded one Church to guide her through the ever-changing seas of history.

The idea that Cardinals are campaigning for the job of Pope is more likely a fabrication of the secular media and a misunderstanding of how the Church functions. Concerning your last point the Holy Spirit guides the election of the new Pope however these are men like you and me and have free will. It is up to them to listen and discern the Holy Spirit. That is why as a Catholic I am praying for them so that they received the gift of wisdom and humility from the Holy Spirit and guided them in choosing the successor of Peter.

I’m very worried about this. Father Malachi Martin, the third message of Fatima, etc. has warned us about how the Church has been infiltrated by EVIL. It makes people question everything that is happening in the world. Extra prayers that I don’t scoot over to the wrong side.
