French City’s Shock Choice for Honorary Citizenship

French Citys Shock Choice for Honorary Citizenship

Majdi Rimawi was honored by a Paris suburb even though he’s a convicted terrorist (Screenshot from Palestinian Authority TV via PMW)

Considering its citizens were recently the victims of a terrorist attack, it’s surprising French officials are now honoring a terrorist.

Last month, the Paris suburb of Bezons decided to bestow a unique honor on Majdi Rimawi. This due to his being a “victim of the [Israeli] occupation.” What French officials did not mention was that Rimawi is a convicted assassin and a member of the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. He is presently serving a life sentence plus 80 years for the assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze’evi. He was one of the four shooters waiting to ambush the minister outside his Jerusalem hotel room in 2001.

Israeli officials and Jewish groups are blasting the town’s decision. Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor says he’s “shocked.”

“The glorification of terrorists who deliberately murder innocent civilians is one of the greatest obstacles to peace in the Middle East. It must be condemned loudly and clearly,” Prosor wrote.

“This appalling act made me wonder: What’s next for the city of Bezons? Giving honorary citizenship to Anders Breivik [the Norwegian mass murderer]? Or Osama bin Laden?,” he added.

Palestinian Media Watch, a Jerusalem-based research institute that monitors Palestinian media, discovered that the city had granted the honorary citizenship to a terrorist after seeing the news item broadcast on Palestinian television. It then alerted journalists and officials about the honor.

Palestinian Authority television reported that the inscription on the plaque prepared by the municipality of Bezons referred to Al-Rimawi as a “political prisoner.”

PMW offered this English transcript of the Arabic report describing the honor:

PA TV host: “The French city of Bezons awarded honorary citizenship to the prisoner Majdi al-Rimawi from the village Bani Zeid Al-Gharbiyya. This title and award were given during an official ceremony held in France, to which the wife of the prisoner, Fathiya al-Rimawi, was invited… Prisoner Majdi al-Rimawi, of course, has been jailed in the occupation’s (i.e., Israeli) prisons for 11 years and is sentenced to life imprisonment plus 50 years (80 years, -Ed.)”

Terrorist Al-Rimawi’s wife: “This connection between the city of Bezons and the Municipality of Bani Zeid Al-Gharbiyya began in 2008… The matter of prisoners in our region caught the attention of [our] French brothers, and they decided to honor them by granting honorary citizenship to a prisoner from this area. Of course, all prisoners deserve all the good, all the honor and all the admiration, from the smallest of them to the greatest, from the most lenient sentence to the heaviest sentence. However, as part of the historical ties [between the municipalities], and since we in the [Bani Zeid] municipality started the relationship with the French brothers, prisoner Majdi Al-Rimawi was the one chosen to be recognized and granted this honorary award. For us, the family of the prisoner, this award is a great gesture from the French [people] and [shows their] support of the issue of Palestinian prisoners in general, and in particular the issue of prisoners sentenced to long prison terms.”

Palestinian Media Watch translators noted that the television report zoomed in to this text on the plaque: “In solidarity with the Palestinian people, on February 13, 2013, the city council promoted Majdi Irhima al-Rimawi (political prisoner) to the rank of honorary citizen of the city of Bezons.”

The Mayor of Bezons Dominique Lesparre posted the speech he gave at the ceremony on his blog in which he described the terrorist as a “victim.”

“Majdi is a direct victim of this occupation… As are the 4,500 Palestinian resistance [fighters] who were imprisoned for having dared to defend their country against an occupier whose military means are oversized and whose methods constantly violate UN resolutions and international law,” he said.

National Director for the Anti-Defamation League Abraham Foxman also condemned the town’s choice: “This award is an insult to the French concept of justice and liberty and a perversion of French values.”

“Al-Rimawi is a convicted terrorist and the PFLP is on the European Union’s list of terrorist organizations.  There can be no justification for honoring him,” he said.

Exactly one year ago in March 2012, three children and the father of two of the victims were killed in a terror attack on a Jewish school in Toulouse, France. Foxman wrote: “After Mohamed Merah murdered three children and a rabbi at a Jewish school in Toulouse, the French Jewish security agency noted a rise in anti-Semitic incidents, many of which included praise for Merah.”

“By honoring another high-profile murderer, the city council of Bezons is callously encouraging more violence against Jews and it is important for all sectors of French society to counter this message and condemn the award,” Foxman added.

A prophecy, November 19, 1971: “If the Eagle should fly first, if the Eagle should guard and do the duty that it was made to perform — we see in the minds of some of your people the thought not to protect that proportion of Israel. This must happen, for it is part of God’s plan. But the fuse is lit in that proportion known as France, and is growing steadily toward Israel. If this should ignite, so should your world ignite.
And we say unto these people of your group, prepare now for the famine. Prepare a way for others. Store of the feed. Store of the seed. Do this in a gradual manner. And fear not, for the angel of God hovers above thee.”

French have a part of themselves in the garbage…May be their colonial history, the perversion they share under the table, the inability to live in the respect of other rights, they enjoy some malignancy… I do not know, how could they do this to humanity, but a good reason could be the mess they are in…. historically. We could send them our magreb ideologist with a note… please take it and keep it busy there! He could make good ride there!

How appropriate that 115 Cardinals will choose the new spiritual leader of the Catholic church.

Catholic, or not, Jesus –Christianity– rears its lovely head.
A ringing reminder of man’s history as it pertains to life; thoughts and actions, choice and control.

For non-Christians around the world, ‘God’ is again ‘something’ to contemplate; accept or reject.

How many of the “King David Hotel bombing” became honorary leaders of Israel? All terrorists.

Many criticize me for constantly writing opinions criticizing Jews, Zionists and Israel. I am called an antisemite. Why do we never see that same vehemence directed at those like Sharona Schwartz, who constantly write opinions excusing the behavior of Jews, Zionists and Israel? Of constantly promoting anything and everything Jewish, Zionist and Israeli?

Isn’t a fanatic semitiphile just as repugnant as an antisemite?

      @Jerk
Had the King David Hotel bombing gone as planned there would have been zero casualties. Irgun gave both the hotel and the British a warning within the hour prior to the bombing and neither responded. The Israeli minister was given no such courtesy.

Excellent idea! But don’t be surprised to learn that this ‘award’ serves as a magnet for mass immigration of islamists to the city of Bezons. They’ll be reaping what they sow in just a few short years – maybe 2.

Why not .. we honor a president that got a Nobel Peace prize and he kills people long distance, and who is thinking of killing his own citizens, we honor people who believe in mass killing of people of different ethnic race and religion, we honor people who out right lie to the public (Hillary, Rice), we honor people that want to enslave you (Feinstein, Schummer, Pelosi naming a few)..

And thousands died in WWII to fight for freedom and guess what after 60 years there is rise in anti Jewish sentiment again and talk of world war. I guess we never learn from history and our mistakes.

In addition homelessness is on the rise and FOLTUS gets lavish parties.

Your point sir, is not missed on me…

We have no money for the citizen supported white house tours, but at the same time, we DO have to money for the Royal Family to live it up in “The People’s house” while denying the owners of that house access… And the Royal Families entertainment budget hasn’t been trimmed a dime, they still have their $100k / yr. chef on full time, and has no plans to trim the WH party hosting budget…

But the sequester hurts EVERYTHING else, according to Das Fuhrer…

Obama is a hypocrite and a liar, and while I would never wish for any real harm to inflict him or his family, at the same time, I would not shed a tear if it did. His actions in the past 5 years has lost him ANY sympathy I COULD have spared him…

I wonder what percent of the population of this French city is Muslim. I know their are neighborhoods in Frnch cities where “infidels” fear to enter. What U.S. town or city will be the first to bestow a similar honor on a terrorist?

France has made their position clear. The attacks by Palestine is not only “allowed” but encouraged by them. France is supporting terrorist.
And in other news, vets like me that cling to my Bible and have weapons are the true terrorist in the U.S. (nothing backing that up of course).

Went there in late 80′s and early 90′s. Not impressed. Food was “ok”, however, the wine was pretty good. Me thinks that the scar of seeing an overweight elderly “gentlemen” in a thong might have had something to do with it.

How quickly they forget. All through the ’80s Muslims, and primarily PLO members set off bombs all over Paris and on a near daily basis. In ’86 I drove to Paris from SHAPE, Belgium only to return to read in the Stars & Stripes the next morning of a bombing in Paris. Of the several trips that I made, this happened each time.
