Try Not to Cry After Watching This Soldier Dad Surprise His Two Young Children at a Hockey Game
Siblings Karisma, 12, and Phillip Gallardo, 11, of Covington, Ky., were thrilled to attend a local hockey game with almost all their family members Saturday night.
The children’s dad, Army. Sgt. First Class Phillip Gallardo, had been honorably serving in Afghanistan. Little did the kids know, their father would be at that hockey game too.
Karisma and Phillip were called down to center ice during the Cincinnati Cyclones game by a member of the team’s marketing department. The kids thought they had been randomly selected out of the crowd to drop the ceremonial puck at the start of the game.
However, the real reason they were called down to the ice was so they could see their soldier dad, whom they hadn’t seen in over a year.
“It was outstanding,” said Gallardo, who had just got home from a roughly one year deployment in Afghanistan. “They were very excited.”

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 4:57amOMG big WHOOP. I live in an army base and our parents traveling to Afganistan is back. Not to mention most of our parents don’t fire a shots. Lets stop making it seem like everyone who is in the military is rambo.

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 9:33amI am a former Army dependent who lived on a variety of Army posts. I recall the Army used the word “post” and the Air Force used the word “base” to describe the military installation. It must have changed over time.

Posted on March 12, 2013 at 10:09pmAll four of the family must be used to ice balancing. They could’ve easily flipped over and been injured. Not totally thought out, but well intentioned. God Bless this family. We need to RE START THE DRAFT so there will be less need to recycle the same brave, tired warriors over and over. The women say they want to do too, okay, let them do so. Be a government issue and serve your country just like a man would. Please Lord, protect this soldier whilst he serves.

The draft is involuntary servitude, a form of slavery… Sorry, Mr. NeoCon time to stop these BS wars!

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 12:51amWith a draft you have a citizen army. Not perfect but most every male in the country has to at least think about the service. With out a Draft eventually you have a military class. People can just say and think those others can protect us and we remain safe. Let the military do it. In a draft everyone has some skin in the game. A free nation not a slave to be found. Free for all responsibility for all.

I was in the Army during Vietnam. A majority of soldiers were draftees. Many were brave and focused warriors. Some were real problem soldiers who, in many cases, caused others to be wounded or killed due to their lack of focus.
The draft sucked big time.

How ’bout a team in San Francisco?
The San Francisco Cyclops. A myopic juggernaut of total destruction.
Nancy Pelosi could be the mascot if they could get her on a leash.

Posted on March 12, 2013 at 7:41pmCincinnati CYCLONES. simple, simple intern journalism Blaze. This kind of stuff happens all the time on this site. I defend the content, but this place needs a lot of work and a total makeover. I have tried this site on many different computers as well, is it me or does the content load very slowly and the scroll erratic?

Posted on March 12, 2013 at 8:14pmIt’s not just you. There are some design flaws, and yes the ‘journalism’ is often unprofessional with certain contributors being more chronic offenders than others. Much of the content is interesting, but one has to wonder how much fact checking is involved when a writer can’t even be bothered to spell check.
Sadly, this seems to be the direction of all online journalism as one can find the same problems in online versions of USA Today and The Wall Street Journal as well as most other major news outlets. I would venture to guess that many readers don’t care as much about the professionalism as they care about getting the ‘facts’ that fit their particular philosophy, be they liberal or conservative.

Posted on March 12, 2013 at 7:21pmAfter the hugs were over, Mom pulled young Phillip’s shirt over his head and punched him the nose several times while Karisma checked her dad into the barrier then took a swing at Mom with her stick. There were no serious injuries; however, all family members were placed in the penalty box for 7 minutes.
