MSNBC Host Flips Out Over Soda Ban Being Overturned — Accuses Soft Drink Makers Of ‘Poisoning Children’
Following a New York court’s 11th-hour ruling that overturned Mayor Bloomberg’s “soda ban,” at least one liberal TV host could not contain her anger. MSNBC and “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski was not just visibly upset by the news, she went on a bit of a crazed rant that included some strong accusations.

A few of the charges and outrageous statements made this morning from the host:
- Industry groups like theater owners serve popcorn that is so full of salt it will kill you and these big drinks that you sit for two hours and drink and become sick… uh, they were elated. (:32 into the clip)
- Oh, look at this! (mocking tone) The American Beverage Association is relieved because they can continue to make money poisoning people. (:52 into the clip)
- At some point there will be a clamp down on the beverage industry, just like the cigarette industry. And they will wear a black hat. (3:53)
- Legal action will continue until they are brought down… Until they stop putting sugar, salts, and terrible fats into our food and making them addictive.
- Don’t be mad at me about that, be mad that you buy this stuff again and again and again.Β These companies feel like they have to produce poison for you and your children. (5:20 into the clip)
- I’m just saying, it’s killing us and it’s killing our children.Β It’s liquid sugar and sugar is poison. (5:40 into the clip)
Joe Scarborough made an effort to temper his co-host’s outrage, saying, “βMost New Yorkers agree with this judge. Donβt tell us what to drink.β Mika did not care about public opinion, she was on a mission to deliver her message and continued.
When Brzezinski talked about the companies feeling like they have to “produce poison”, Scarborough tried to reign her in,Β βStop it. Stop it, I think Iβve given you enough lead here. Reel it back in on this.β (5:20 into the clip)
Most of the “Morning Joe” on-camera crew was not as strident as Ms. Brzezinski. At one point a staffer was seen wearing a hat with two “Big Gulp” drinks from 7-11 while discussing the constitutionality of the soda ban.

The contrary point of view only seemed to inspire Brzezinski into more rants on what she considers to be toxic foods.

Is this “ban” actually a vehicle to get the masses hooked on aspartame as a means of population control?
If they really wanted to help, there are ways to do that. For instance, ban certain bar codes from purchase via EBT cards, say certain products with sugar contents or fat contents.
Or outlaw aspartame, a known poison.
Their intent is not good, at best.

It’s funny, her “poisoning children” bit is so old and predictable. Go visit a 7-11 or a McDonald’s sometime and watch who it is who buys 32 ounce sodas. Very few of them are children. Most are adult and older teens.

Sugar is not a poison, based on real scientific definitions of poison. Sugar is a carbohydrate. Other complex carbs you eat are broken down into sugars in your blood anyway, so refined sugar is just the same thing, but instantly available, no conversion necessary (i.e. “sugar rush”). Your body does the same thing with all sugars: insulin levels rise, sugars are immediately burned for food, and the leftovers are stored as fat. When you eat more protein, fat and plant fiber, the same things happen: insulin levels decrease, you use proteins for energy, and your body burns fat for fuel (because of the lower insulin levels).
Two other things quickly: One: fats do not make you fat. Whatever scientific kook came up with that years ago was a loon. Fats, pound per pound, are twice as calorie-dense as their lean muscle meat counterparts, so you still have to watch your caloric intake, but fats are necessary, not bad. Two: fats also contain cholesterol. Is that a bad thing? No, if you consume cholesterols, your HDLs and LDLs rise together, which is a net gain of 0. Your body uses cholesterols to make muscle.
Now, eat cholesterols and fats along with SUGARS (that’s sugar and carbs, which your body regards as sugar), and you end up with plaques and you gain weight. So eat your sugars along with proteins and the proteins are used, sugars are sto

People will eat what they want. Parents will feed children what they want. If they do it in an educated way, they are intentionally endangering their children. The large majority are “low-information” parents and really have no clue except for what “Mr. TV man” said.

Posted on March 12, 2013 at 3:30pmAspartame is not a poison. It is an amino acid monomer pair that is part of your DNA. It is so strongly sweet (though different in flavor) that the concentration of it in drinks is incredibly small.
It can have a toxic affect in people with Phenylketonuria cannot break down this protein precursor, and typically died in times past from build up, but it is now treatable by supplementing the co-enzyme that breaks it down.
Like everything we are made of, too much can be bad. In this case, you can’t consume too much without an industrial supply of the stuff.

I’m not sure about health risks of sucralose (Splenda) but the other products are all suspect. We you taste drinks “sweetened” with these chemicals, behind the perception of sweet is a hind of bitter. Having spent most of my career in the beverage business, I can’t think of anything one would add that is both bitter and beneficial in a beverage.
That being said, I dare say that the high-fructose corn sweetener that is being used to sweeten damned near everything produced in this country. It has gotten to the point that I’m starting to now see foods that advertise on the packaging that they don’t contain any of this poison. I can well remember when a 6 1/2 oz. (ounce for the Southerners) Coca Cola (one of the few good things out of Georgia) was refreshing, especially when ice-cold. When the new formulations of using this horrid syrup are tasted, the beverage is so syrupy that there just isn’t anything refreshing about it, sad but true…

Posted on March 12, 2013 at 7:00pmI had started to develop sleep problems lately. Couldn’t fall asleep at a good time, waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall back to sleep.
Many people would have gone to the doctors and got sleeping pills, etc.
I decided to stop drinking Soda.
I have been sleeping like a baby since.
But it was my choice. I still have the occassional beverage at lunch, but I keep it out of my house so at the very least, I don’t drink soda past lunch time. Now I sleep better without resorting to ambient, et all.
If you want to drink more soda, have at it! It’s your life and your body!

Not that I am for banning either, because I believe it is your choice of what you put into your body. I just think these people would be better off chasing cigarrette companies. You’ll never see that thou, because a majority of them smoke (Obama) and are probably getting checks cut directly from cigarrette companies. These bans do nothing. Just look at Prohibition during the 20′s. Look how well that worked out. As soon as it became illegal, you had bootlegging gangsters from Chicago and New York making huge profits while killing hundreds and thousands of people through gang activity. It all occurred because the govt. thought they knew what was best for us. I don’t think we need the government telling us anything. The government has their own problems that they cannot solve. They try and say we are poisoning the children? How many kids died from drinking Soda/Pop last year? Yeah, thats what I thought.

We lived on a farm in my youth, and a soda was considered a treat bought for us by the folks, perhaps once every two weeks or so. Dad would bottle root beer for us when he made his beer for the adults and we also got those as treats. So it isn’t the soda that is bad, it’s the attitude that you need it every day, even now, I get one perhaps once a month or so, if I am driving on a long drive in the afternoon as a quick dose of sugar and caffeine to keep me alert. So don’t attack the soda, we live in a free nation (well it was before 9/11 and no idiot mayor (or newsman) should be able to order us to obey his ideal of what is good. God gave us a mind and the freedom of choice and I don’t care who the hell you are, don’t try and order me not to be able to buy any damn size drink I wish. This is one of the stupidest ideas I have ever seen in my 61 years on this old earth. The left is insane and it is proven daily with their idiotic attempts to dictate to the people how they should eat, drink, smoke or any other thing that involves our bodies!

It’s not socialism people, it’s CORPORATISM (the collusion between government and the Corporations) that’s the problem! Mika is grandstanding here and using grandiose terms like poison, which is unfortunate because she’s right. Bloomberg is exceeding his authority, but he’s doing it for well meaning reasons. Do I agree that he should be able to do it? No. But somebody has to do SOMETHING before my generation is the first to have worse health outcomes than our parents did!
One last thought: Frito-Lay has figured out a scientific flavor combination that will always make you want to eat more but never satisfy you. How are we supposed to make reasonable choices when we’re being peddled the food version of crack. THINK people, think!

I do agree that moderation is best with almost anything that we consume, but the freedom of choice should be left to the individual. I personally choose to drink two large cups of black coffee just about each day. When I do go out to eat, I like unsweetened iced tea. I do drink a lot of filtered water through each day, but will once in a blue moon drink a soda. Its my choice.

In our family, sugary snacks were a once in a while treat. Meals were healthy with lean protein, veggies and rice (Asian here)- very little fast food. Water or unsweetened tea were the main beverages. We went out and played for hours- playing tag, jumping rope, hopscotch, etc. Parents watched what we ate and reinforced good, healthy habits.
Gee, think we’re onto something here?

Next lets shut down schools because this is where most on adolescent bullying goes on which is a major contributor to teenage suicide rates. Let’s stop “all” sports related activities because this is where many, many accidents happen that cause long term care or even death. No hiking, marathon’s, soccer, football, basketball, boxing, wrestling and Heaven forbid hunting…yes Mika….I agree with you and today I am going to dig a hole in my backyard to bury my head…..sure hope I don’t hurt myself.

I’m sorry, this has nothing to do with the left’s “want to help YOUR health”! Rather it is a direct opportunity to collect more tax income. Two 12 oz sodas with full tax on both, OR the tax collected on one 24 oz. soda usually costing half again as much as the 12 oz, or even one quarter the amount.
If you have to buy two at the full price (necessary, because the additional cup, cover, straw, etc., adds direct cost to the product), you pay additional tax for the added cost!
Wake up–libs/progressive/communists don’t care about health, welfare, or anything else about others, UNLESS THEY CAN PAD THEIR POCKETS OR THE NEEDS OF THEIR POWER SOURCE (Bloomberg = NYC looking “good” monetarily), IN ORDER TO LOOK GOOD OR CONTROL YOU NOW AND ULTIMATELY!

What he may want it for fiscally is not related to the rhetoric he’s using to get it passed. He EXPECTS people to agree with his rhetoric that he knows better than us what we should put in our bodies. If he tried to sell it as a tax raising scheme he wouldn’t have even been able to put ink on the paper to get this even initially signed. But since so many damned busybodies agree with trying to control our every move in life, he picked up on that.
Plus you may be wrong outright, keep in mind this is the same dillbag that wants to control your salt and fats. He may well be doing this because he honestly thinks you’re too stupid to be able to know what to put in your mouth.
