Would You Have Jumped? Teen Gets Huge Surprise When He Leaps Into Seemingly Small Puddle

A teenager dared to jump into a puddle — seems harmless enough — was dunked in icy water after it turned out to be a giant hole.

Teenager Submerged Over His Head After Jumping Into Hole He Thought Was Just a Puddle

(Image: YouTube screenshot)

The puddle jumper named Lakeem in the video is wearing a bright white pair of shoes, but they aren’t the only thing that get drenched in the dirty water. He is submerged over his head.

His friends filming the $1 dare laugh hysterically — so much so, at one point the man filming is on the pavement — as Lakeem quickly removes himself from the water and another steps in to help him out.

Watch this WPIX report with footage of the dare:

According to the original video, which has more than 1.5 million views since being posted to YouTube Saturday, the dare was conducted in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store. Those looking on swear they didn’t know the puddle was actually a deep, water-filled hole.

Watch the original video (Content Warning: Strong language):

Moral of the story is it’s pot hole season. As you can see in the surrounding environment in the video, there are still mounds of snow hanging around. Freeze-thaws throughout the winter season could have created gaping pot holes — puddle jumpers be warned.

Update: Some have brought to our attention that, like many videos posted on YouTube these days, there is the potential it is fake. We investigated further and found more information. ABC News 57 in South Bend, Ind., identified the teen further as from nearby Elkhart and had more about the hole. Lakeem Cook said he, like his friends, thought the puddle was only about ankle deep.

It turns out this wasn’t just a giant pot hole as we originally speculate. City of Elkhart Utility Engineer Tory Irwin is reported as saying it was actually an empty dry well, which collects water and “allows it to infiltrate into the ground.”

For now, the hole is marked and covered. The landlord of the property is having it repaired by a crew next week.

Yes, we know it’s a fake story – look at the water marks around the hole before he jumps etc. I enjoy some of the interesting NON NEWS story’s that TheBlaze posts. I think a lot of us are unhappy about the way this story was portrayed to us as being true, when it most likely is not true.

I think there is a story here though. There is value in adding this footage of your database, because sometimes things aren’t always as they appear – and that is the story here. I would have not portrayed this event as true, and that is why we are bothered, because we demand the truth from TheBlaze!

      I couldn’t agree more!
I for the most part come on Blaze these days for their entertaining “off the wall” posts these days. I can’t bear a single more news story about guns (an issue I do NOT care one iota about – don’t own a gun and never will). And I already know how criminal the obama administration is. Don’t need to be reminded of that either. Just trying to survive the next 4 years and if fluff posts get me through my days, I say ‘Thank you, Blaze!!”

Bit by bit, day by day, story by story TheBlaze is descending into irrelevancy. Here is an entirely faked event and TheBlaze is reporting it as a true story . . . Lis Klimas wraps up her account with “Moral of the story is it’s pot hole season. As you can see in the surrounding environment in the video, there are still mounds of snow hanging around. Freeze-thaws throughout the winter season could have created gaping pot holes — puddle jumpers be warned.”

TheBlaze refuses to proof read their stories before publishing them and thus they are often laden with errors. For me I am clicking on TheBlaze less often each passing month. I need a news outlet that publishes the truth, TheBlaze is demonstrating to me that they are not up to that task. I find that sad!

      @Berbel73

I welcome some of TheBlaze stories that don’t meet the standard of serious journalism. Interesting clips are fine with me. My problem is all of the grammatical errors. My point is this. In order to publish a story that is accurate you must look it over to ensure that what you wrote is what you intended to write, or to ensure that you laid out the facts correctly. If you proof read your article for correctness (The Truth) before publishing it, then it would seem that you would catch the obvious errors.

The fact that there are so many errors tells me that they don’t do much checking for accuracy before they publish. That is a problem, and leads me to wonder if the story is correct or not. When I send an important email, I read over it first to make sure it’s right. I CAN’T IMAGINE posting a story for millions of people to read without going over it first!

And yes, there is a long list of stories that meet this poor standard on TheBlaze.

Some of us just want to see some improvement at TheBlaze, because 1) we want the truth and 2) we want them to succeed.

They didnt know it was deep? several teenagers always gather in family dollar parking lots and film friends jumping into a puddle for a dollar. Not to mention the kid has his arms fully plastered to his side so it doesnt scrape them on the way down. Poorly done and compleat setup. Surely we are not this dumb.

      Hey Proud,

I counted four white kids and one black kid in that video. Why is this about blacks? All five kids were doing something stupid. Racists are always the first to suggest racism.

But, I digress. Perhaps we should spend our time doing something else, as you suggested.

I think I’ll go review the president’s bankrupt, indefensible budget proposal that wasn’t able to get any support in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Naw, maybe I’ll just go take a tour of the People’s House. Oops, can’t do that due to your buddy’s political stunt.

Old Ben Franklin himself said to believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see. He’d probably revise that if he were alive today (to believe nothing you see).

This video is clearly a setup. The kid braces for the big drop, you wouldn’t do that if you thought it was just a puddle (notice his knee posture and his hands very tight to his sides). And why would you purposefully ruin new shoes unless you knew it was for a good reason (their YouTube video). Did you ever jump in a puddle as a youngster? Did you have TWO of your friends recording video of it from different angles? Of course you didn’t. This was just another setup in a long line of setups to get that viral video on YouTube.

And it worked. People are just too gullible.

Also, if you look at the frame right when he’s getting ready to jump (at the top of this page), you will see a rectangular outline around the hole (impression in the blacktop). There was probably a metal sheet or board covering the hole and these kids removed it. I’d even bet there was another marker on top of it, like a construction barrel or warning tape, that they removed too.

Even further, notice the vehicles in the parking lot (how they’re parked as if they drove up to the hole). These just weren’t kids walking through a parking lot, spontaneously egging a kid on. They drove to the hole for a purpose.

      Okay, I’m done now.

I just hope the kids were smart enough to cover the hole back up so someone didn’t get hurt later.
