You’ll Never Guess What Police Found in This 6th Grader’s Backpack
A 12-year-old girl showed up to school on Monday with a backpack full of money — about $20,000 in cash to be exact. Police in Taylor, Mich. are now investigating where the sixth grader got that kind of money.
Officials with the Taylor School District were notified on Monday after the student apparently began giving out $100 bills to other students, WXYZ-TV reports. She reportedly gave one student $200 and another $500.
The 12-year-old girl reportedly told police that she got it from a “friend” that lives across the street in her neighborhood.
Police confiscated the money as evidence and will hold it until the rightful owners of the cash can provide an explanation of where it came from.

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 6:25pmWait until this girl’s parents find out what kind of gift tax liability they have just incurred.
Regarding the news reporter’s remarks about the likelihood of most of us,”never holding that much money at one time”…apparently the financial history of the Wehrmact Republic escapes her, and what we’re really talking about is the price of a Taco and a small drink next year. (You just gotta love the Fed)
Talk about your tax-bracket creep coming our way (“creep” used as both the verb and the noun form).
That $20K represents a mere 75% of the 2014 hourly minimum wage of $26.6 K/hr …which is why you will not want to work more than 3 hours total next year.
(We 98 percenters have got to stick together down here…which should be a lot easier since we won’t be able to afford hot showers.)
I’m gonna git me a Obama fone! Ah gotz lots ‘o kids and we can all git Obama fonzes!

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 6:44pmWhat bothers me is that the police won’t give that money back to the family who owns … OWNS it unless they have a good explanation as to how they got it?!?!?! So now having cash in your house makes you a suspect that has to tell the police just how you got your cash?!?
Am I the only one out here who is bothered by this?
The only thing that makes them “suspect” is that they keep cash in their house. Golly could it be that this family just does not trust the banks to keep THEIR money safe so they keep it at home? (lol granted that money was not safe if the little girl can play banker with it. lol)
My point is unless they have proof this family is engaged in illegal activity what right do the police have to keep that money?!?!

Posted on March 14, 2013 at 3:08pmI thought the same thing. Although its a bit irresponsible to leave it out where a young child can get it and take it to school, or to actually give it to a child to take to school, I don’t see how that is illegal.
If the police want to confiscate it they should have reasonable cause and/or a court order. On the other hand, if the parents or neighbors want to give it to a child to take to school, then everyone who received a gift should get to keep that gift.

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 6:08pmWow, people don’t trust banks? They can prove they cashed in their stock and there is no way the police will give back that money. Why do the police get involved with no crime? The school could have told parents and the money returned.
Do you think this could put a little girl and her family in harms way? So is the police going to put a car in front of this girls house until they know where the cash came from? Is she safe? Do they care?

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 6:48pmAmen! The crime here is what the police have done NOT this family! That money is not theirs and have NO LEGAL RIGHT to keep it! They have to PROVE guilt or get a court order to seize property!
Keep your eyes open people now having cash is becoming a crime or at least makes you suspicious!
