An Alabama homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar while defending his property on Tuesday night. It is merely the latest instance of a gun owner using a firearm to combat a criminal, which TheBlaze has reported on extensively.
The gun owner dropped the home intruder with just one shot from his shotgun, according to police. Investigators do not expect any charges to be filed against the homeowner as it appears to be a clear-cut case of self-defense.
Police responded to a call about a gunshot victim in Albertville, Ala. just before 9 p.m. Tuesday. Assistant Police Chief Jamie Smith told WHNT-TV that the homeowner made the 911 call to report the shooting.
“We are in the early stages of the investigation, but right now we’re treating it as a burglary and the homeowner defending his property,” Smith said, adding that “Your home is your castle, you can only retreat so far as your home.”
He continued: “I’m sure at the time he felt he was in danger so he took what action he thought he needed to take at the time to protect himself… You can back away from anything but home is as far backwards as you can go. At what point do you leave your house to let them have it?”
“If that’s even a question,” Smith added, “and in my mind, it wouldn’t be.”
The assistant police chief went on to say he is a “supporter of the Second Amendment” and defended residents’ right to “do what you’ve got to do and…use what tools are necessary.”
Due to protocol, the case will still be presented to the Grand Jury but police don’t expect and indictment.
“Police have not released the intruder’s identity as they are working to locate and inform his family, but Smith said police are familiar with the burglar from previous investigations,” WHNT-TV reports.

Mar. 14, 2013 at 1:22amKeep reporting this stuff, The Blaze! Our lefty, anti-gun liberals need to know how efficient guns are when it comes to self defense.
Of course, many of the liberal leaders have security guards or carry guns themselves, but their loyal, blind followers (sheeple) don’t seem to realize that and think that guns are evil, because that’s what those leaders tell them. It’s up to us to bring them out of their stupor.
Keep up the good work and fight the good fight!!

Did the homeowner follow Idiot Joe’s other advice to just fire said shotgun through the door. Yeah, that makes a helluva lot of sense, doesn’t it? Or, maybe he went out onto his balcony to fire a couple of shots into the air…..Hahahaha, I just can’t continue with that idiotic piece of advice. GEEK, you just keep swallowing that Biden BS. Different weapons work best for different situations and locations. From the looks of suburban neighborhood this home was in, yes the shotgun would have been preferable even to me. I have even used a shotgun often for PSD, or Personnel Security Detail. Always with a handgun too, but different jobs required an MP5, and even on rare occasions an M16. One particular security mission I had an M16 with an M203. Naturally, I don’t expect you to know what that is, so I will explain. The M203 is a 40mm grenade launcher.
But, you are certainly a self anointed expert is this field, so keep giving us your elitist advice.

Mar. 14, 2013 at 8:47amZIPIT, I know the area well, and even worked in the next city to the north on Hwy 431 they mentioned in the video, Guntersville a good number of years ago. I have no doubt in my mind that the homeowner has a good number of weapons. Not going to bother to guess on this story, but the area is heavily and I do mean heavily populated with illegal aliens. As far as the Sand Mountain area goes from north of here Boaz, Albertville, and Guntersville have been plagued with a lot of crime from the illegal alien communities, to include a large number of rapes, and some murders for years now. Even when we were working in Guntersville there were several murders in Albertville only a very few miles from where we were. Yeah, its the Guntersville mayor is that idiot Leigh Dollar who wants her cops to disarm the citizens during emergencies from natural to man made to include terrorist activity. Guntersville may sound like a mundane little city in Alabama but the dams there on the Tennessee River provide power for quite a bit of the surrounding area, and there are the reservoirs that much of the city is on lower ground than the water level.

You realize the bad guy in both cases, were stopped by good guys with guns?
You realize that if the only people with guns are the police and military, then you can end up with a situation like North Korea?
You realize that the majority of murders in big cities are drug and gang related, and intrinsically tied to welfare and democrat programs?
You realize that 50% of all murdered last year with African American?
You realize that african americans are 12.5% of the population, and do 1/2 of all murders in the US?
You realize that if we can drop black murder rates to the same as whites, that we will drop the murder per capita rate by 40% and save a whole lot of black lives?
You realize that in America, we own 88 guns per 100 people, but there are 27 nations with higher murder rates than us?
You realize that Honduras has only 6.6 guns per 100 people, but lead the nation in murder per capita rates?
You realize that in America less than 4% of murders are a rifle used, but it is the rifle that democrats want to ban?
You realize that right of gun ownership is not given by the government, but is to be protected?

sorry, but the FBI Uniform Crime Report as well as a number of other sources have consistently indicated that legal defensive firearm uses far outnumber those in the commission of crimes. You continue to base your belief on the silly and utterly false logic that its a zero sum game and that only deaths totals count.
The reality however is quite different. Criminals, as most of us here recognize, are in fact generally cowards who perpetuate their actions from a perceived position of strength…they are most assuredly NOT the supermen consistently made out by the progressives/liberals. Once that perceived strength has been negated in some way-being confronted with firearms being the most powerful and thus most effective negation-they flee. As such, most frequently law abiding citizens never need or do discharge their firearms. Its not necessary once the cowards have turned tail or are on the ground waiting for the police to arrive. My own father, while we lived in a very high crime area, twice was forced to confront criminals with a firearm-once for a property crime, once for an attempted forced entry into our home. In neither instance did he have to discharge the weapon.
Its the reality, whether you face it or not.
Keep flailing about…the poor argumentation skills you display are fun to take apart.

We are not anti shotgun, rifle, or pistol.
Many home invaders have been stopped in their tracks by shotgun, rifle, and pistol.
Shooting through the door like Joe Biden suggested was a stupid remark.
For home defence, the double barrel is not as good a choice as a shotgun, or rifle, or pistol with a changable magazine.
Shotguns are capable of semi automatic fire, and can have a detachable 10 round magazine.

Mar. 14, 2013 at 1:10pmI’m glad they’re reporting this & feel they should keep reporting it, but am skeptical at the difference it will make on the folks in Washington & elsewhere that have already made their minds up about guns being bad. They are what some radio hosts refer to as “drones” that will keep going down the same road of thinking no matter what evidence, science, rationale or proof is put in front of their face or served to them on a silver platter. My challenge for pro 2A people is to constantly think outside the box as to how we can all make an argument that will penetrate their heads & let them know that we’re not giving up EVER on our rights afforded to us by the Second Amendment.

The GOVERNMENT is TRUST !!!!
WE the PEOPLE are the GRANTORS and BENEFICIARIES !!!!
ALL PUBLIC SERVANTS are FIDUCIARY TRUSTEES !!!!
The CONSTITUTION is the RULES of the TRUST that the TRUSTEES MUST FOLLOW !!!!
Under TRUST LAW, a TRUSTEE has NO AUTHORITY over a GRANTOR or BENEFICIARY !!!!
WE the PEOPLE can fire the TRUSTEES, and re-write the RULES of the TRUST (Constitution) !!!!
The ONLY time a TRUSTEE has ANY AUTHORITY over a BENEFICIARY, is when ANOTHER BENEFICIARY has a CLAIM of DAMAGES against the accused !!!!
It is so.

Mar. 14, 2013 at 12:30amThe homeowner did his civic duty and stopped a criminal. Way to go man. Good Job. This is the way it should have always been. By confronting and eliminating this threat to society the homeowner has saved the taxpayers, insurance companies and society in general millions of dollars with one well placed shotgun round. The homeowners first consideration was the safety of his family and himself. The second was protecting his home and possessions. The third was to protect his fellow countrymen by eliminating the criminal. Taking out the bad criminal is not just an act of self preservation, it is a duty of all Americans as an act to protect their neighbors. Instead of parades going down Main Street with freaks and fairies wearing only underwear & flaunting their sexual deviance, the parades should consist of patriotic Americans that have stood their ground, stopped a criminal and be recognized as hero’s. If they had not stood & fought then how many other victims would there be?
