Long Island Station Elevator Has Been Urinated in So Much It Stopped Working

An elevator at a Long Island Rail Road station has been rendered nearly inoperable due to one very disgusting reason. Officials say it’s because people have urinated on it so much.

The elevator in question is at the Woodside Station in Queens and has only been in operation 58 percent of the time, CBS New York reports.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said all the urine has actually rusted the floor and seeped into the inner workings of the lift, causing operational issues.

LIRR President Helena Williams said the elevator has a “vertical urinal problem.”

Meanwhile, officials are debating whether they should repair or replace the urine-soaked elevator. Patrons would likely prefer the latter for a number of reasons.

“I just knew the acrid urine smell all the time and we just came to get used to it and make sure my daughter didn’t touch anything on the elevators,” one man told CBS New York.

Another woman called the elevator situation “really nasty” and was surprised to hear about such a problem in the area.

  You have been posting that message all over the site. Nobody can delete your comment – only a moderator can do that. People might flag it but the moderator makes the final decision, and generally speaking they are pretty tolerant…

  Having been an elevator service mechanic for 20 years I can attest to this particular problem especially in parking garages. Pigs tend to try peeing into the gap between the car and the floor. I found if the safety edge (that reopens the doors) was wired “creatively” it would prove to be an effective deterrent to that particularly bad behavior. As to the issue going on so long the floor rusted out – oi veh – !! Surprising the NYC elevator guys aren’t more creative with their time. ;-)

  They need to do just like they do in Japan, they have a urine sensor in the elevator. If someone goes, the elevator stops and does not start back up again until the authorities get there to arrest and fine the individual.

Yup welcome to Queens, I grew up in that toilet of diversity, those 5 words are very accurate

You don’t have to be Nostradamus to figure out a place like Queens with all that diversity would have words like nasty associated with it.

That is nothing. In San Francisco we had a bunch of escalators stop working downtown because the homeless were squatting and crapping on them while they were operating. Needless to say, this clogged up all of the inner workings and made for a foul stench. In fact, it was the only part of Market Street that didn’t smell like pee. True story. Google it.

  Doubt it will help. Driving just south of Time Square with a co worker in the 80s and a huge dude was in a phone booth (yeah, this was a while ago) and a huge dude was in there taking a leak, clear glass walls, laughing while he whizzed.

typical socialist/communist story. We have seen this in other parts of the world where communism was the government of choice (personal experience in the east block). Since the elevator belongs to everyone and belongs to no one, go ahead and piss on it. When it finally breaks down, everyone will just use another route or it will, maybe, eventually get repaired by the invisible fairy. Not their problem. Private ownership instills respect. When things come from the Wizard of Oz and people don’t understand the value, they piss on it. While mass transit is so nice to see in Europe and the big cities of the United States, it is not efficient, is always in debt, and prone to corruption (just look at Bell, CA and what the civil servants have done there). State run “anything” is a drain on the citizenry.

I think that the elevator needs to be replaced! Where are all the people going to relieve themselves now? Poor babies! Maybe Mike can issue a proclamation banning urination in elevators in NYC, he seems to have no problem with issuing orders on most everything else.

“pee free zone” signs didnt work i guess. so lets see, high crime rate, high taxes, bad traffic, no economy, not allowed to defend yourself, high govt control, people pee on everything so much it actually breaks machinery and people are used to the ‘smell’. and yet every new yorker will claim how they are so much smarter, and civilized than us flyover folk. good thing bloomy banned salt and sodies.
