Youth Baseball League Raffle Tremendously Successful After AR-15 Put Up for Grabs

Atwood Hammond Little League Raises Funds Through AR 15 Raffle

So far an Illinois little league baseball team has seen “tremendous” support for its fundraising raffle of an AR-15. (Photo: Shutterstock.com)

The key to a successful raffle to raise funds is to offer something a lot of people might want. Atwood-Hammond Little League in Illinois, which only raised $10 in its hog raffle last year, decided to go for an item that has been flying off the shelves since December — an AR-15.

The gun shop owner donating the firearm described the overwhelming response the raffle has gotten so far to Fox News Radio:

“My phone has been ringing off the hook,” said Charidy Bucher, co-owner of the Atwood Armory shop. “The response has been tremendous.”

Bucher said her phone has been ringing since 4:30 a.m.

“People from out of state have been calling,” she said.

She said the winner of the rifle will also receive 260 rounds of ammunition.

“Ammo is just as hard to get as the firearms these days, unfortunately,” she said.

Funds from the raffle, which ends June 28, will go to purchasing new equipment that the league currently can’t afford, according to WAND-TV. Watch the report:

Some might balk at the idea of a youth baseball team raffling a weapon in their effort to raise money for the season, but the league’s commissioner Steven McClain acknowledged to the local news station WFIE that it might “sound crazy,” but he has taught his children proper use of a gun. Bucher also told Fox News Radio many people in central Illinois are “interested in preserving their rights to keep and bear arms.”

Little League, which is an official non-profit organizing youth baseball and softball, told Fox this team in particular was not affiliated with them. Although Little League in general doesn’t tell its teams how to raise money, the non-profit’s spokesman said “we certainly would not recommend one of our leagues do something like that.”

The winner of the raffle will have a background check and must provide an Illinois Firearms Owner’s Identification card, as if they had purchased the gun from the shop.

The same shop recently raffled off an AR-15 for a cancer foundation and raised $7,000 in two months.

Many moons ago when my son was playing youth football they had a fund raising raffle every year. Most years I was loathe to taking the tickets to work. One year they had a nice shotgun up and I as well as others had to get more books of tickets. Bought the kids solid gold helmets that year (JK).

We are the Atwood Armory that is raffling off the AR-15 to raise money for our children to have the proper protective equipment, and area for them to play (T-ball thru Little League Baseball). If anyone would like to contact us to purchase a ticket to help support the children, feel free to contact us at 217-578-2767. We would also LOVE to speak to Mr. Glenn Beck, being a huge fan of him (seeing him at the 2012 NRA Convention in St. Louis)!
Please help us support our children in order to provide them with the proper protective equipment, and etc., that they’re in dire need of we greatly appreciate it!! Last year only $10 was raised to support the Little League in our area, and our goal is to raise as much as we can to continue this truly American past-time for our children (especially with my wife and I having 5 year old twins that played last year, and will play this year).
We can’t thank America enough for the support we’re already received with the numerous interviews we’ve had the last few days (NRA Sirius XM Radio, Fox News, two local news stations, KMOX radio in St.Louis…just to name a few)…..but, we are still experiencing negativity from the anti-gun groups and people, but the majority is in favor for it…and we thank you!
    Thanks to one and al!!!

      THIS IS A WONDERFUL IDEA

I wish I lived in a state where I can take a chance. In NJ buying a raffle could send you to the State Rape Machine prison.

WHEN IS CHEAPER THAN DIRT GOING TO START SELLING RIFLES AGAIN?

Rifle purchases are still legal but gun stores are not selling any. If the Government can illegally stop the sale of guns, the Government can do the same thing to food. I want to buy a rifle but none are available for sale.

I bet that not a single father or mother will take a principled stance and take their kid out of little league because the want AR15 banned. Guess it really isn’t that important to progressives with kids in little league.

“It has been going gangbusters,” Atwood Armony co-owner Charidy Butcher told the local TV station. “My phone has been ringing nonstop since 4:30 this morning. It’s just been crazy.”

Well, a quick google search and I came up with the Name and part Owner of the Gun Shop supplying the rifle. We need a phone number but I can bet its busy 24/7 just like RRA in Illinois who I really believe just took the phone off the hook.

Break at work is over – will try to find a number later.

As costly and rare is AR-15′s are getting it doesn’t surprise me. They are sold out where I’m from.

If they really want to get a raffle going, raffle off a couple thousand rounds of 5.56, and 7.62, and a bunch of 30 round mags.

Lol, Yeah the .223 Ammo is as scarce as President Obama’s campaign pledges and balanced budgets. We need to get the .223 on the Governments endangered species list. I guess my supervisor had the right idea a few years back. He set himself up to make his own Ammo. He has thousands of casings, primers, etc… to make .223 and .308 for months. I placed an order – Lol.

Its also pretty sad when you cannot even find .22 Long rifle rounds in stores. Why are people making a run on those?

The 22 LR and the 12 guage shotgun shell are the ultimate in survival cartridges. Maybe not in a fire fight, but for pure survival, meat on the table stuff it’s hard to beat those two.

If the Left doesn’t get the message with this raffle then “It don’t rain in Indianapolis in the Summertime”! In effect, the Progressives and their Lib sycophants have so totally lost the narrative on the gun issue that their world is now turned upside down and inside out. Freedom rings!

Raffling off an AR15 rifle/carbine sounds crazy?

Not any more so than a state-run lottery which – allegedly – helps our schools.

If the lottery scheme worked, why would a state like Maryland keep raising our taxes to help the schools?

Maybe Maryland should raffle an AR15. Often.

A gun store in my area tried to sponsor a Little League team last year and they were denied. They were told it wasn’t appropriate–and I live in the Midwest (not Illinois)! I was shocked when I heard that.

America sure has changed (for the worse).
