Chris Matthews Goes on Anti-Trump Birther Rant — and Gets Called Out on It: ‘Nobody’s Talking About It but You!’

Chris Matthews has long championed the Republicans-are-all-just-a-bunch-of-birthers argument. And on his Thursday program he resurrected it again, this time using Donald Trump and his invite to speak at CPAC to insinuate the conference and the conservative movement is promoting the idea Obama is an “illegal immigrant.”

Matthews hosted Al Cardenas, head of of the American Conservative Union (which puts on CPAC), and former RNC chair Michael Steele and cornered them on Trump.

Why more time for the number one birther in the country?” Matthews asked, referring to Trump getting more speaking time than others such as Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. That was after playing several old clips of Trump asking to see Obama’s birth certificate.

“He is nutty on the issue of birtherism,” Matthews emphasized. “I mean, that’s what he’s known for now. Not building towers into the sky.”

And that’s when Steele stepped in to offer a defense.

“I think that characterization can be put behind Donald Trump,” Steele said.

“He won’t put it behind him,” Matthews quickly retorted.

“Oh, Chris, he hasn’t been talking about that–,” Steele tried to respond before Matthews interrupted with disagreement.

After some back and forth, Steele finally got agitated: “Chris, nobody’s talking about it but you! You did a 30-second lead in on it.”

“You know why? Because people who think the president is an illegal immigrant shouldn’t be talking out loud almost anywhere,” Matthews responded. “They think he’s an illegal immigrant. That he snuck into the country, broke our laws, and is a fraud.”

“All that’s now behind us,” Steele responded.

Later, Matthews asked Cardenas if he would be happier if Trump didn’t talk about the birther issue, to which Cardenas offered a simple, “Yes.”

I started to watch the clip, but then saw it was nine minutes long. I’d rather listen to nails on a chalkboard for nine hours than listen to Chris Matthews for nine minutes.

  I like how every time Steele says “He is not talking about it now” Chris would try to interrupt him and say “He talks about it every time I ask” or “Every time I ask him about…” Also I find it funny that the most recent clip they find of Trump talking about it is back in April 7 2011.

  The fact that Obama is illegal has nothing to do with his birth. Everything that progs screamed about Bush Obama has taken for himself and increased (where are their screams now?). On top of that, his administration has refused to investigate voter fraud, made recess appointments while the Senate was in session, refused to persecute laws Congress has passed, prosecuted laws Congress has refused to pass, and murdered American citizens.

  Right on all counts, count me in as a proud birther. But, again, The Blaze overstates. I don’t see how anyone can think that Matthews was significantly “called out” when Steele basically stated that the GOP is afraid of the issue thus won’t talk about it. Why any sane person would listen to Matthews is beyond me. But, then leftists/progressives are lunatic cultists, that’s where Matthews’ audience is.

  I would agree to that as well. I think NO ONE should pay any attention to him. Fox, the Blaze and all other Conservative sites should never ever make mention of him. MSNBC has shown themselves to be anything but legitimate and so if we just completely ignore everything they do and say we will be way better off. Nobody with a brain watches them anyways.

Does anyone still watch Matthews or MSNBC? Why do Republicans agree to appear on a show or network that has seven, possibly eight, viewers? Matthews, like a Kardashian, is only in the limelight because we let them be. What’s fun is to watch them melt under the heat of such a light.

There are a higher % of American’s that are ‘Truthers,’ than ‘Birthers.’

Yet, American’s should judge ALL Repubs as haters, based on a smaller number of crazies than exist in the ranks of the Dems. Matthews ‘crazies,’ being progressives are OK FINE with him.

Sadly if you point out or agree with the definition of Natural Born citizen, you are automatically lumped in with the ‘birthers.’

Chris there’s many reasons to throw your sexual fantasy lover into prison where he belongs. Setting aside the fact that he isn’t a natural born citizen and the constitution requires you to be a natural born citizen to be POTUS. This countries politicians haven’t followed the constitution in over a century so we don’t have to worry that they’ll start any time soon. No Chris Barry can be thrown out of office on the Libya debacle alone,allowing an ambassador and three other men to be murdered is enough to secure a conviction in the senate. Since the senate is filled with candy@ss progressives with an ‘R’ and a ‘D’ next to their name it’s safe to say that your fantasy boyfriend is safe.

good to see Steele has something between his legs. But let me ask you this, would it surprise anyone if it came out that he wasnt born in America? Listen I dont care. I’m not screaming it from the rooftop but look at the facts, his father was from Kenya, he spent 80% of his young life out of this country.
