Jay Carney Snaps at Another Reporter, This Time from Fox: ‘If You Did a Little Reporting…’

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney during an interview with Fox News’ Jenna Lee on Friday snapped at her questions regarding the effects of sequestration, saying that “if [she] did a little reporting” she would be better informed.

“The White House is going to be open for the East Egg Roll for families for Congress,” Lee said, referring to the various closures that the White House has announced since the March 1 automatic budget cuts, “but not open for families that are just, you know, regular families out there that want to visit the White House.”

Carney pounced.

“Well, actually,” he said, “Jenna, again, if you did a little reporting you’d know that the Easter Egg Roll is open for a lot of military families.”

“It’s paid for by the sale of those eggs that come out as well as donations from the outside,” he added.

For those of you who might be a little surprised at the Press Secretary’s tone, you shouldn’t be. After all, this is the second time this week that he has snapped at a reporter.

Recall that NPR reporter Mara Liasson on Monday asked him whether entitlement reform would be part of President Barack Obama’s official budget.

“Mara, the way you phrase that question makes me think that you’re still working on a typewriter or something. It’s available online. The proposal is there,” Carney responded.

Indeed, Carney’s tendency to be somewhat curt is hardly new — especially when it comes to Fox reporters. Consider the past dust-ups both he and Fox News’ Ed Henry have gotten into:

  Seems like the first msm reporter to get truthful (in a meaningful way on a substantial topic) stands to become a legend. How would it be to be the one to change history by pointing out Emperor Obama’s lack of clothes in a way that made it impossible for others to keep up the farce?   She was trying to figure out how to tie in a Easter egg hunt, paid for by private donors, to the Sequester. And you’re upset that military families’ children were going? But non-military people, she wants to know who they are so that she can decide if there’s an anti-Obama angle there? Or did she not know that the event was paid for by private donations? She was questioning who was invited to an Easter egg hunt? Seriously? And you think Carney was out of line for suggesting she do a little research before going on a fishing expedition?

  The job of those in a televised news conference is to generate responses that will be informative or news making from those giving the conference. It has nothing to do with what a reporter knows or doesn’t know. In fact, often they will ask questions that they know the answer to in order to get that answer to the public. Jay Carney knows this and doesn’t like it when it doesn’t line up with the White House agenda.

  I’ve got to agree with you on that one! He is a public official – it’s his job to answer the reporters questions in a professional manor regardless of how trivial or repetitive it is. It’s called customer service. If he worked in the real world he would be reprimanded. Key word is Professional & perhaps they should look for someone who can handle the pressure.

  I do not believe for a second that Jenna Lee is some kind of Republican lap-dog at all, in fact, based on her “reporting” which she does do, I would say that Carney is more upset with her for NOT being a blathering sheep of the Obamafuerher.

  @ Exrepublisheep – But here is the thing at the end of the day. Reporters, their jobs ARE in fact to know all of this stuff, and report it. However, one way a reporter can go about what they do is to allow the person they are talking to, to state or comment from their perspective in a way to inform the viewer. If they simply throw out a bunch of stuff the everyday person may or may not know and present it as fact, then the reporter can be opening him or herself up to attempting to “create news.” Thusly, an argument can be made that there is no such thing as a stupid question in an interview provided it is relevant to the conversation. If the reporter had randomly thrown out a question about who Carney thinks Obama will pick as the next WWE world champion, then yes, that would be a stupid question.

It is actually painful for me to watch/listen to hapless little Mr. Carney. I keep thinking that this nice boy thought he scored the coup of a lifetime as spokesman for the president of the United States. Unfortunately, so much of what Mr. Carney must purvey is not exactly true. (Okay. He lies. He’s told to tell lies.) What a nightmare of a job, when so many listeners shake our heads, grimly smiling, not believing a word he says and thinking he looks silly. Poor man.

What don’t reporters ask how that is the only thing that is cut out of the White House budget. All reporters need to do a little work. What is the budget for the white house? How much in the growth from last year is being cut. When are reporters going to get honest and ALWAYS phase the cuts as CUTS in GROWTH of the budget. Most American know that when they have a cut that means it is less than before not less that the increase promised. The slow destruction of our country with the help of the Media and leftest continues…

  Camp..Yes, part of the problem is uninformed voters. But its also a full circle of brainwashing in public schools. Several decades ago, it started with the fed’s control over education. That generation of kids were taught to believe government is there to take care of them. Now those kids are parents. Now not only do kids get brainwashed at school, they get it from home too! As long as there are people brainwashed in to believing government will take care of them and are willing to accept the scraps they dole out, and as long as there is a political party promising to keep those freebie handouts coming, nothing will change!

If your job was to lie to people every day, knowing how flawed the president is, having to build him up and cover for him, any normal man would snap. An honest man would turn down the job. Carney knew what he was getting in to and what the job called for. Keeping up with lie after lie after lie is taxing and it wears on a man. He inflicts wounds to his soul and character every day that will be with him until he dies…and will have to be atoned for after that.
