Actual Video: UK Journalist Reports Live from Police Van After Being Arrested by Chinese Officials
LONDON (TheBlaze/AP) — A broadcast from Beijing’s Tiananmen Square has turned into a bizarre television experience for British viewers after a Sky News reporter and his camera operator were detained by Chinese authorities on live television.
Sky News correspondent Mark Stone says he was broadcasting at Tiananmen Square when officials detained him. He kept the camera on the whole time, narrating his trip in a Chinese police van as startled anchor Anna Jones asked him what was happening.
“This is a slightly surreal situation, I have to say,” she said on-air Friday.
“I should say this is surreal for us as well,” he responded.
It’s not clear why Stone was detained. Chinese regulations require prior approval to broadcast live from politically sensitive and heavily patrolled Tiananmen.
Sky News says it had permission.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 4:52amLol……not supposed to do that. Tiananmen Square is a very sensitive area. And never where any yellow clothing or have anything yellow with you. That means you support the Falon Gong who are considered terrorists by the Chinese government and who are rightfully so considered a terrorist organization. I’ve been in Tiananmen Square myself and I filmed video/took pictures all afternoon with no problem at all. Of course I wasn’t a news reporter either making a film about Tiananmen Square. I was visiting China as tourist and a guest. I even went inside the People’s Hall and took pictures/video inside. The Chinese police and government were very courteous and treated us all very nicely. One of the Chinese secret police officers even took some wall mural pictures for me in a room we weren’t allowed to go into. He was very gracious, courteous, and respectful. We talked for several minutes and had a very friendly, casual, educational talk.
When in China you must always remember you are their guest and you abide by their rules/laws. You’re not in the U.S. or Britain or any other country….your in China. If you do that, you will not have any trouble whatsoever. You can take still pics and record videotape all you want – live broadcasting requires a special permission. The Brits did screw up – simple as that.

Posted on March 15, 2013 at 10:35amOk……. So what is the story here? He’s in China! What exactly what did he expect? He is not in England, the US or OZ anymore……..He’s in a Communist Nation! Besides, this sort of thing happens in the US, everyday. Try to Video a Police Officer in some areas of the US now-a-days…… You won’t have the Officer politely tell you to stop taping, they will force the issue. No story here, move along now.

i wish i could quip about demonstrating that their citizens are still trapped under the boot heel of communism…
Unfortunately, we have ‘I’m not a sixth grader’ Feinstein and too many others in Congress, as well as the White House, who are more than willing to ignore the Constitution and take our freedoms away, as well, all based on an emotional irrational non fact based response to tragedy.
