Newt Gingrich Says ‘Dominant Wing’ of GOP Is ‘Mired In Stupidity’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Saturday that “the whole of Washington is trapped in the past” and jabbed at senior members of the Republican Party, saying they’re “mired in stupidity.”
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Md., Gingrich called for conservatives to introduce “new ideas” in the GOP.
“The Republican establishment is just plain wrong,” Gingrich said. “The Republican consulting class is just plain wrong in approaching politics.”
Gingrich echoed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) who on Thursday said, “We don’t need a new idea. The idea’s America, and it still works.”
“You’re going to hear a false attack that we don’t need new ideas,” Gingrich said. “Let me draw a distinction. We don’t need new principles … but we do need new ideas to implement [those principles].”
Gingrich’s speech was largely a critique of establishment Republicans and their “anti-ideas approach” to governing. He recommended “all conservatives” read “Citizenville,” a book by California Democratic Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom about technology and government.
He complimented Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush as the future of the GOP and said the current “dominant wing” of the party is “mired in the past and mired in stupidity.”
Gingrich, a convert to Catholicism, also said he’s “excited” about the newly-elected Pope Francis.
“He’s going to challenge the left on social policy and he’s going to challenge the right on thinking about the poor,” he said.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Rubio is a panderer, easily pulled into establishment thinking. Our top contenders for presidency have been Bush Sr., Bush Jr, John McCain and Mit Romney. I would say the Republican Party has a problem picking candidates. I am glad Ron Paul brought libertarians into the Republican Party. He brought attention to important ideals that the Republican Party used to uphold like – the constitution, free markets and liberty. Hopefully Rand Paul will get the nod in 2016.

Nobody picks lousy candidates like the DNC. The difference is all of the left wing factions get into lockstep when it comes to voting time to defeat their enemies. The communists, socialists, progressives, government dependents, and anarchists will get along long enough to out vote whoever the opposition is.

The same can be said for bi-partisanship in congress. There can’t be. We have basically 3 groups there. One group is progressive and wants to change everything. One group just wants to go alone to get along, so they don’t matter. And the third wants to reduce the effects of progressive-ism. Where is your middle ground? A little more progressive-ism is still more progressive-ism.

I’d give him a chance because I do think he has the ability. I think Romney was more conservative than people on here gave him credit for too. Romney would have done a good job. If you want perfection and someone to coincide with everything on your checklist and also win….good luck with that. I just want Obama out. I want obamacare gone. Posted on March 16, 2013 at 10:40amThe good news is Gingrich, an astute observer of the direction of the political wind, is usually correct about trends; and he seems to believe the trend in the Republican party is toward republicanism. The bad news is he appears to be trying to catch a ride on the breeze.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 11:47amUnfortunately, Jeb Bush will be characterized in 2016 as the person “most likely to win”. And then all those people who voted for Romney in the 2012 PRIMARY will also vote for Jeb Bush in the 2016 primary. Just think about all those people who voted for Romney in the 2012 primary while they could have voted for Paul or Santorum….Those people are not going anywhere and will be voting in 2016. The real battle is reaching out to those people and convincing them not to destroy it with another moderate

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 12:16pmSOY, I disagree with a certain exception. The media and the next group of David Axelhole clones will again do everything they can to serve up the next Republican loser as they did with McCain, then Romney. During both of those primary election cycles the lefty pundits announced who they wanted to see win because they were viewed as not electable in the actual presidential run. That is why so many on the left reregistered as Republicans in states where it was necessary to vote for the intended loser. There was a lot of underhanded tactics played. The only way I can agree with you that Jeb might be the next so called leader is if he is the actual weakest candidate.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 12:28pmYes, i agree the establishment pushed Romney, which is why they will push someone like jeb in 2016. But nobody forced anybody to vote romney in the primary – republicans willingly did it. I dont think democrats were the reason romney won anything….It would have took a concerted effort and we would have heard them organizing it. Although i would accept the notion that the republican party perpetuated election fraud in the primary just like democrats did in the general

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 10:59amHe has made radical statements that appear to reflect the most dangerous elements of Shariah-adherent ideology that enable the pre-violent “civilization jihad” to undermine the American system, and give ideological cover to violent jihadist terrorists.
He has been mentored by and associated with convicted terrorists including al-Qaeda financier Abdulrahman Alamoudi and Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Sami Al-Arian. His parents were pioneers and founders of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States through proven Muslim Brotherhood front groups such as the Muslim Students Association (MSA), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
Suhail Khan’s positions on national security, Islam and terrorism are completely divergent from the conservative mainstream. He appears perennially on leftist and anti-American media outlets as an accessory to the propagation of their worldview, and has fought against important anti-terrorism measures such as the admissibility of secret evidence in terrorist prosecutions.

He confronts rather than demurs. He is able to be confrontational without loosing his cool and devolving into a pool of inarticulate rudeness .

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 12:05pmBarber, i dont think you understand. The party politics are petty and just a game. For instance, the bickering that Romney/Obama did in the debates had nothing to do with Constitution or freedom. Gingrich is an intellectual so instead of looking to truth (constitution) to solve government problems, he looks inward

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 12:14pmSOY: An intellectual is capable of understanding the Constitution. At least a conservative intellectual can ! The radical Left doesn’t believe in tradition or looking to the past . They are all about themselves, the now, and “change.” They have the permanence of a weather vane. They are rootless and unmoored. That is why they love revolutions and change. Unhinged.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 10:35amI admire the fire in Newt’s belly. Conservatives need to stand up to the bullies and political goons of the Left. Also , agree about the Pope : the radical Left has ” stolen” the protective mantle of helping the poor BUT the Left steals the dignity and innate rights of the individual because the Left does not believe that those come from God . The Left does not believe in God. The Church offers both concern for the poor while still fighting for the rights of the individual . I hope the Pope gets much protection . The International Left will target him just like they did a previous popular Pontiff.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 10:57amI agree BARBER…
Newt carries a little too much personal baggage, and leans a little too Progressively for my taste, but he is a hell of a Statesman.
As far as the pope goes, i’m excited and leery at the same time because he is a Jesuit.
I went to Jesuit schools growing up and really learned to admire and trust most of The Society.
One out of every ten of them, however, was a Social Justice knob-job… & that scares the pee out of me.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 11:53amEAST: Sounds like the Pope survived the nasty years in Argentina when both the Left Communists and the Right were probably both way off base. I do think that a blend of spiritual and material concern for the poor is the answer. The radical Democrats/ Marxists have no concern for the innate rights and the dignity of the individual. The radical Democrats do not believe in God or the soul. And that scares the pee out of me !
