‘When I Say Infested I Mean Infested’: Passengers Describe Disgusting Bus Ride

Greyhound bus riders were accompanied by some uninvited passengers during a trip to New York on Friday.
Hundreds of cockroaches emerged from the vents and began scurrying over the windows, walls and on the passengers themselves.
“Roaches started crawling up on our clothes, crawling out of the ceiling,” passenger Gregory Simpson told WABC-TV.
Forty-eight passengers were on the bus from Atlantic City, N.J. to New York City, according to the station. The problem started just 15 minutes into the ride — just a few at first, then more and more.
“There were too many to count,” passenger Dejuana Alexander said . “When I say infested i mean infested…[passengers] were in the aisles literally brushing roaches off.”
In a statement to WABC, Greyhound apologized for the “inconvenience” and said it was looking into the cause of the problem.
“We apologize for this inconvenience and our team will be transporting the first bus back to our garage to investigate the situation and determine its cause,”the statement said.
Greyhound gave all passengers a refund on their fare.

Posted on March 17, 2013 at 1:05amMost of the important points having been covered, I’d like to touch upon a sensitive one –
Receiving GUESTS from NY or NJ, or most major inner cities in our Country.
Because if just ONE, JUST ONE, egg carrying German roach makes a successful trip in the baggage of one of your guests to your home, you WILL be INFESTED within the year, and you’ll start having serious problems with them in cupboards and drawers, in just a few short months.
The thing about German roaches is, if they’re not eradicated before they have a chance to expand from your house into the neighborhood, then it’s all over for you and your neighbors. And it takes a full tent fumigation to fully eradicate them – most of the time.
I HATE German roaches.

Posted on March 17, 2013 at 9:49amYea, but if the picture is accurate, that wasn’t a German cockroach. We had them in Bermuda in off-base houseing and had to move. Apparently, the perso next door moved, and they all came to visit us. The exterminator said there’s not really any way to get rid of them. They’re resistant to pesticides that haven’t been banned. We had the appartment sprayed anyway, and were lucky enough not to bring any with us to the next place.

Posted on March 17, 2013 at 3:47pmGood news: you are mistaken. It takes persistence to get rid of German roaches, but it’s safe and cheap. If it weren’t, these vermin would have followed me from Silver Spring all across Virginia and Maryland…and they have not. Thanks for handing me a blog topic!

Posted on March 17, 2013 at 4:44pmBoric acid kills roaches and any roaches that eat the dead ones. To make them lust for it mix it with egg yolk. I have seen a circle of roaches stay even when the light is turned on, they like it that much. You have to make a fresh batch daily. Bedtime is good. Leave drops on counter.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 6:32amI would DIE. My husband grew up in Hawaii and said even the Gov’s house had them (80s-early 90s)…and they FLY. I would empty a clip! No way, no how. If I saw one in my house, I would MOVE! Same with snakes. Even outside. I would die!

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 12:36pmTehran is not seeing anything new. Chicago has had rats that size for decades so has New York City and many other large cities that have a water source like Lake Michigan for example.
That is where the rhyme “Rats that kill cats and eat babies in their cradles”
My mom told me about that in the 50′s. She grew up in Chicago in the 30′s and 40′s.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 9:59pmThis is one reason why when I take any trip, my clothing comes into my home in a plastic bag and immediately to the washer with the bag thrown away outside. Then I either empty the rest of my belongings out of the suitcase and let them freeze a couple days in the winter or sit in the summer heat & sun for a couple days including my suitcase until I’m sure nothing could possibly still be alive inside. It’s also why I travel less and less.

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 8:06pmThose are german roaches. They multiply very quickly and will eat almost anything. I hope the passengers washed their clothes and cleaned their shoes because they can carry them home very easily. They are a nightmare to get rid of! Cockroaches are bigger and scarier….especially the ones that fly…yikes!

Posted on March 16, 2013 at 6:33pmAt least the officials did the right thing and refunded the money and more. Finally that seeks to satisfy the customers.
Nasty but it can happen. Probably a bag with a lot of food in it left hidden in the buss somewhere for a length of time. They will clean the buss thoroughly. Roaches can not survive with no food.
Perhaps the food got into the heating system somehow and was difficult to see. Or perhaps someone simply did not properly inspect the buss. The roaches did not appear for a while it is even possible one of the passengers brought them all on board in luggage perhaps grabbing the wrong bag that had trash in it instead of clothing or whatever.
