If It Weren’t So ‘Sad’ It Would Be ‘Hilarious’: Educators Continue to Reveal and Blast ‘Common Core Standards’

Last Friday evening, Glenn Beck continued his in-depth look into the disturbing Common Core Standards implemented in America’s public schools as well as the controversial curriculum management system sweeping Texas schools dubbed CSCOPE.

With a Common Core language arts program that has, as Beck noted, included lyrics alluding to San Francisco’s federal reserve bank and a stated goal of “strengthening federal, environmental, energy and transportation management,” it is no wonder parents and teachers alike are up in arms about the contentious program.

So is Common Core “dumbing down” students? Beck unequivocally believes it is and quipped that “the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has little or no more value than the phone book in Common Core.”

“The curriculum should not be the coverage of content, but rather the discovery of content,” said one Common Core spokeswoman of the system.

Watch below as Beck looks into some of Common Core’s leadership, including someone actually endorsed by former Weather Underground leader, domestic terrorist Bill Ayers.

“This just looks insane to me,” Beck blasted.

He continued the program by hosting a panel of educators who are currently struggling against the system.

“They are trying to put the roof on before the foundation is even laid,” one teacher noted.

“When student-centered learning takes the place of instruction from a teacher you are simply playing around in the sandbox,” another educator pointed out as she explained Common Core’s “fuzzy” method of teaching.

The panel also said that if it were not so “sad” it would be “hilarious” as Common Core is forging ahead without offering any empirical evidence that the system works. “And we are buying it,” oneΒ educatorΒ said.

The teachers expressed their upset over the fact that government has forced on faculty and students to adopt Common Core. They maintain that the executive branch is to blame and that state legislators were not included on votes for Common Core.

Another disturbing element of Common Core can be found in its data collecting. So what exactly is data collecting and how does it effect those subjected to Common Core?

The panel of teachers and Beck explained that, ultimately, the Department of Education is gathering information on, aside from test scores, student’s “nicknames, religion, political affiliation, address…extracurricular activities… and bus stop times.”

The teachers feel like they are simply “data drones” one teacher said soberly. The teachers also said that they have felt intimidated by government officials pushing Common Core.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Instead of taking our kids out on fishing charters, it appears we should be loading them up and moving them out of the USA! As if the world isn’t difficult enough…..we had to vote Obama in again! Sounds to me like there has been some dumbing down going on in this country for quite some time.

I agree that teachers feel like data drones. I do. The big push this school year is “data”: data to determine how students have mastered a skill, data to determine how quickly students catch on to something, data to determine how effectively I have facilitated yes, facilitated – not taught) a skill, etc. Not to mention, the End of Course and “Common Exam” tests required as part of the Race to the Top money my state was granted by the federal government. I don’t have time for anything else, because I have to collect, analyze the data, and then determine what I must do to amend activities to ensure students “get it”.

I didn’t sign on to this when I started teaching.

My teacher friend in a San Antonio, TX school district told me how his department was tasked to review the CSCOPE program. Over a dozen teachers, all in the department, voted against it. The principal overruled them and is moving to implement for next year. This is education tyranny and must be stopped! Texans need to contact their state legislators now!

I often volunteered to review books when our school system adopted new ones. They chose new ones in different subjects each year on a regular cycle. Teachers and parents all reviewed the books from various book companies. We rarely got the ones we voted on either. I never saw the final votes to know who actually picked the winners.

Hitler once said give all your children and by the age of eight they will all be mine. Now here comes Obama with his core teaching plan. What’s the difference, its our own government teaching socialism, and communism in our schools, not the real lessons of math, reading etc.. an uninformed public is the same as clay in the hands of Obama, Mao, Lenin, hitler, and Ayers and his wife.

The more I hear about this CSCOPE program the more evil it sounds. I live in Texas, but all my children are grown. However, I fear for the kids currently receiving this indoctrination. Some of the examples I have heard are; referring the Boston Tea Party members as terrorists, referring to the 9/11 hijackers as “freedom fighters” and having some girls dress in Hijabs and Burkas. I mention the last item because talking about Christianity in school curriculum is strictly prohibited. Another thing that smells is the parents are not allowed to view the lesson material in direct violation of Texas law. If I currently had a little one in school, you better believe my wife and I both would be screaming bloody murder.

Wish the Blaze would interview the college professors who are on the common core committee who refuse to sign off on it, instead of just giving Beck’s opinion and that of the four guests. We need to arm people with understanding why the Common Core Standards are bad, because at many local levels, people are being sold a bill of goods at how great Common Core is for their child. I heard it this weekend while at a homeschool conference from publishers of curriculum that also sell to schools. Not one of the people touting the good had read the standards, but are telling people how good they are.

Please give other opinoins other than Beck’s as we have already heard his fears. Citizens need to be armed with facts and not just what Glenn Beck says.

Mr. Beck is lying about so much of this.

The data is collected in aggregate. It’s not individual.

    He’s wrong about the math.

    He’s wrong about language arts.

What’s wrong with providing real world education? Eventually children need to get jobs.

The tests are difficult; more like the tests you see in those articles about what school was like 100 years ago. Children will have to be very knowledgeable to be able to score high on them.

That’s so untrue. I have seen the data collection and it is indeed individual. And the tests, what garbage. They’re “difficult” because you test kids on things they haven’t even learned yet. Case in point, the Delaware DCAS system, which is heavily embedded with Common Core, uses a system that gets progressively harder as the test moves along and actually finds the failures in the kids…then it determines whether the child is “proficient”. Neither here nor there, it’s not about the mechanics of the test or how “difficult” it is, it’s about what children are learning. Today’s schools are HEAVILY invested in ignoring history prior to the 1900′s. They throw the obligatory nod to the Founders and they cover slavery of course…but there is little if any discussion of any history beyond that until late in High School. Instead, they focus on current events and massive unwieldy testing instead of concepts.

They try to cram as much as they can into the kids without establishing any kind of structural foundation and NOW, they want Kindergarten too…because “parents aren’t teaching kids well enough”…sorry MarybethElizabeth but you are completely full of crap.

Plus, there’s a big difference between real world education, and dumbed down education. Common Core doesn’t provide a solid learning foundation in reading and mathematics, so learning “real world” stuff in high school doesn’t matter because the students don’t have the fundamentals.

Common core is straight socialism in action. The government is pushing a curriculum that will make worker-bees out of American school children and dumb them down until manual labor is their only recourse. Meanwhile the elite’s children will be learning the correct way and they will maintain the family’s leaderships. Propaganda will come with Common Core’s curriculum. A communist murderer has promoted (Ayers) this curriculum so you know automatically that it will not be good for American kids. Obama is moving his socialist agenda a little faster now.
