Is the UN Planning to Clamp Down on Gun Sales?
With all the efforts by politicians within the United States to limit gun rights, one would think the National Rifle Association (NRA) would have its hands full. But as it happens, there may be another threat coming from the international community that has sparked similar levels of opposition from the NRA. That alleged threat is a United Nations (U.N.) treaty designed to clamp down on unsavory elements within the global arms trade.
Fox News reports:
The draft treaty under consideration does not control the domestic use of weapons in any country, but it would prohibit states that ratify the treaty from transferring conventional weapons if they would violate arms embargoes or if they would promote acts of genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes.
In considering whether to authorize the export of arms, the draft says a country must evaluate whether the weapon would be used to violate international human rights or humanitarian laws or be used by terrorists, organized crime or for corrupt practices.
Many countries, including the United States, control arms exports, but there has never been an international treaty regulating the estimated $60 billion global arms trade. For more than a decade, activists and some governments have been pushing for international rules to try to keep illicit weapons out of the hands of terrorists, insurgent fighters and organized crime.[...]
The National Rifle Association has portrayed the treaty as a threat to gun ownership rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The politically controversial issue of gun regulations has re-emerged since a gunman opened fire on Dec. 14 at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., killing 20 children and six educators.
The NRA’s opposition is grounded in a fear that the treaty’s provisions banning export and trade of certain weapons (“civilian firearms” is the phrase used) could be interpreted over-expansively and thus infringe on the ability of Americans to get more guns. However, UN experts are skeptical. The UK Guardian explains their skepticism:
Human rights campaigners said that the resurgence of theΒ NRA‘s campaign was designed to “stir up anti-UN panic” ahead of the UN conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, which opens on Monday in New York. TheΒ Obama administrationΒ indicated in a statement on Friday that it would sign the pact.
For years, the NRA has painted the UN as a bogeyman figure, claiming in its literature and fundraising drives that there is an international conspiracy to “grab your guns”. Last July, when negotiations on the Arms Trade Treaty broke down β in part because of US resistance to global regulations on gun sales β the gun lobby group claimed victory for “killing the UN ATT”.[...]
According to the Small Arms Survey, roughly 650m of the 875m weapons in the world are in the hands of civilians. That, arms control advocates say, is why any arms trade treaty must regulate both military and civilian weapons.
Scott Stedjan, of Oxfam America described the NRA’s opposition to the treaty as “irrelevant”. “They know that arms treaty is not going to impact domestic gun control” he said. “The issue they are most concerned about lies outside the treaty.”
Nevertheless, the NRA’s opposition is grounded on more than simple fears that the UN’s treaty will have objectionable policy consequences. Their objection is that no UN treaty should be allowed to exert authority over Americans’ constitutional rights, however loosely. NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre has been especially forceful on this topic.
βNeither the United Nations, nor any other foreign influence, has the authority to meddle with the freedoms guaranteed by our Bill of Rights,βΒ LaPierre said in an address to the UNβs Arms Trade Treaty Conference last July.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isnβt really about controlling guns at all; itβs about controlling us. This current emphasis on guns is incidental. They are trying to made UN law superior to US law and the laws of other nations. In many cases, including in my own country, they have had partial success.
The danger is that these people are effectively unelected and are supported by a majority of nations which are far more dictatorial than ours. No small percentage are ruled by thieves, murderers, and various stripes of tyrant. The prize, their Holy Grail, is One World Government, and they are fanatical in their pursuit of that objective.
I agree with most commenters that the UN has no place in our national affairs – and it was never intended that it should.
The west should, at the very least, significantly curtail its financial support of this insidious organisation, and strip it of the power that it has illegitimally acquired over the decades.

Posted on March 19, 2013 at 6:29amI think that Beck made a great link between the banking fiasco in Cyprus and the world-wide push to seize guns from law-abiding citizens here. Beck’s long-standing advice to have a couple of weeks of cash sounded prescient too.
If you’ll notice, all the protestors in Cyprus are pointing their naked fingers in the air. None of them seem to have friends like Mr. Smith, Mr. Wesson or Herr Rueger to comfort them in times of grand theft from their accounts.
I’m one gun owner who is ready to declare:
“Throw down, Obama and the UN, show me what you got!”
The time for debating the merits of gun control has come and gone. I believe that my right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Period. No amount of tears for slain victims of crazed gunmen will change that attitude. Go peddle that tripe elsewhere. There will always be murderers in out midst, whether they use their hands, clubs, knives or flamethrowers to do their deeds. They will prey on innocents because innocents can’t shoot back.
So, bring it on, Obama, and bring that pencil-necked Holder with you.

Agreed 100% about the UN Forces. They’re definitely Lame. Then there’s the possibliity of a TSA “JUNK JIGGLER” in an MRAP rolling down your block. Still no real threat. So it leaves one to ponder. Who will be tasked with disarming us? I think were all anticipating the frontal assault fellas. Our flanks are wide open. I believe it’s much more subtle. I truly believe it wont be a defineable call to action. I think the frog in the pot scenario applies here. I think we’re already in the pot, and it’s up to us to pay close attention to the temp. The Fed will simply buy up all ammo, and new guns, and stockpile them, forcing prices up due to shortages they create, and then figure out a way to tax firearms into oblivion. That or they’ll come up with an insurance scam of some kind making it impossible to afford a gun. All this being said so what if they send you a tax bill or a letter requiring a certificate of insurance. The UN is the gun mafia. It’s only when we the people have the guns that they are worried about it. That might just put them in jeopardy! As out of control as they all are!
Dismantling the UN and the EU and NATO enforcer, and all the other global entities that these globalist Controllers hide behind is necessary to stop them implementing their global tyranny over all of us.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 11:44pmThe UN is a broken organization where diplomats come to NYC to get drunk and waste other people’s money? You are in far greater danger from peaceful nuclear generation projects because they have no idea what to do with the waste, yet they can’t prioritize their time to take care of this clear, and what should be a fairly easy agenda for nations to gather around?
Why are we surprised with Iraqi aid scandals, etc? Anyone that dares say anything is accused of being a lobbyist and fined $750,000 like Donald Trump? What in the world is that about? Or they are added to a list maintained by Department of Homeland Security? What is the problem in NYC and New York State, they think they are a new world order that is above the Bill of Rights?
So people are forced to maintain a relationship where they can’t question the decision of politicians, but they can ask open questions about policy without supporting any viewpoint, and with careful language there is free speech in the political process for New York State? That’s what Rush Limbaugh does, he’s not political, he asks open ended questions about policy, and the liberals can not shut him up, which is why they make fun of him?
Why isn’t the State Department telling China, there is no legitimate use for nuclear technology in North Korea? There is no where to put the waste generated, help us out China?

The only threats it would pose would be 1) the UN could assume control of the export process currently controlled by the US government and 2) if politicians could use the treaty as leverage for their gun control agenda.
The treaty itself would have neither authority to supersede the Constitution nor any effect on gun sales within the United States.
