Planned Parenthood, Pro-Choice Groups Celebrate ‘National Abortion Provider Appreciation Day’
Abortion is, no doubt, one of the most contentious issues in the sociopolitical spectrum. So, considering that Planned Parenthood and other women’s organizations promoted the “National Abortion Provider Appreciation Day” (NAPAD) earlier this month, it’s no surprise that pro-life advocates have subsequently been up in arms.
Believe it or not, the commemorative “holiday” has been around for quite some time. It was launched in 1996 in an effort to praise the work of abortionists and their associated clinics.
According to a description published by Amplify, a youth organization that tackles reproductive issues, the NAPAD was created to honor these individuals and institutions amid alleged harassment and threats that they purportedly face from the pro-life cohort.
“Unfortunately, many abortion providers continue to face significant risks, including harassment, stalking, threats to family members, and even violence,” the group’s web site explains. “Despite these risks, they continue to stand with us and provide care.”
So, for the past 17 years, abortion clinics have been honored annually on March 10 for their work. Planned Parenthood, among other groups, took the opportunity to tweet about the event, writing, “Today is the National Day of Appreciation for #Abortion Providers. We appreciate these courageous professionals today and every day. #NDAAP.”
Amplify also put together an initiative to help commemorate the day, encouraging readers to print signs that praise abortion providers, then take pictures of themselves holding the messages. Then, these individuals were encouraged to send the photos back to the organization.

Among the messages directed at abortion providers were notes telling them, “You are amazing” and “Thank you,” among other accolades.
Amplify also asked abortion providers to explain why they are actively engaged in offering the procedure. One unnamed individual praised the option as one that is much-needed by women.
“For me providing abortions is both a conscientious commitment to women and a political one,” it reads. “Abortion is about gender equity and self-determination, more than simply a medical procedure that women need when they determine that it is not the right time for them to carry a pregnancy any further or to raise a child.”

Just for the intellectual discussion of it; some professionals believe self-actualization begins around age two but if you were going for the very base definition of sentience (the ability to feel and perceive base stimuli) that exists before birth. The main issue with this debate is when does life have worth.

I just wanted to pop into your convo real quickly & mention that they now know & accept medically that the child can feel pain at 20 mos gestation & believe it may even start earlier than that. That’s why so many states are passing the fetal pain bills banning abortion at a later stage.. The truth is the further we get with medical technology, the more we’re learning about just how much IS going on at phases of gestation earlier than ever imagined..
To me the fact there’s pain being felt by a living creature, (this would be true for ANY living creature), as it’s slowly torn apart limb from limb, is more than enough for me to not be able to go there.. Of course that’s just me.. I mostly wanted to see if that stat added anything to the discussion in your opinion(s)?

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 1:48pmso if you feel like Rape is evil, fine but dont tell others that because they dont think it so, and thus you should not put your faith in the discussion. and yest thats logical with your response. People (the child, who is a child, not an alligator or a mouse) are murdered, but somehow we have convinced ourselves that its ok because they are not fully formed? A child is not fully formed, neither is his mind functioning at its highest level until adulthood yet thats a person isnt it? There is no grey here, even apart from faith. Science tells you thats a person from the moment of conception. Its either a person or just a hunk of cells like my finger nail, but my finger nail wont develop a heart, grow and become a fully alive adult someday. +JMJ+

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 1:51pmWe’re dealing with life or death situations, in which one section of the country views the life as a potential adorable toddler and the other an easily discardable chicken egg-like thing. These groups perceive the other as murderers or insane. “You are going to hell”; “I eat fetuses, yumm” (youtube quotes). As a member of the former camp, I gave up trying to reason with the latter and am now an advocate for ‘it’s a state issue’. I believe that emotions are too high for discussion on both sides.

There is no comparison for celebrating the dead versus the celebration of abortion. Death is part of life, so celebrate those that lived and died. Abortion denies babies the chance to ever live. In addition, they are not celebrating the aborted children that never lived, they are celebrating the murders themselves. I have never been overly religious, but at this point, we deserve whatever punishment God gives us for allowing this evil to fester in our society.
