Report: Hacker Distributes Confidential Memos Sent to Hillary Clinton on Benghazi Attack, Libya

A hacker, known only as “Guccifer,” has reportedly distributed confidential memos that were sent to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and dealt with various developments in Libya, including the Benghazi terrorist attack. The hacker has apparently sent four of the recent memos to congressional aides, politicians and journalists across the globe, the Smoking Gun reports.

It was over the weekend that the hacker reportedly distributed the memos, which were sent to Clinton by one of her longtime confidants and former White House aide, Sidney Blumenthal. His AOL email account was hacked last week. One memo, sent to Clinton on Sept. 12, was labeled “Confidential.”

The Smoking Gun has more details:

The hacker’s e-mails went to hundreds of recipients, though the distribution lists were dotted with addresses for aides to Senate and House members who are no longer in office. But many of the addresses to which the Blumenthal memos were sent are good (though it is unclear whether karl@rove.com is a solid address for the Republican mastermind).

Most of the e-mail recipients were sent four separate memos that were e-mailed to Clinton by Blumenthal during the past five months. Each memo dealt with assorted developments in Libya, including the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. One memo marked “Confidential” was sent to Clinton on September 12.

As TSG reported last week, after Blumenthal’s e-mail account was compromised, the hacker searched it for e-mails sent to Clinton, and further sorted the mail to segregate any attachment–like Word files–that were included in Blumenthal’s correspondence to Clinton. Many of these pilfered documents were memos to Clinton on foreign policy and intelligence matters.

In another stunning twist, the emails disseminated by “Guccifer” over the weekend appear to have been sent from the hacked AOL account of an unidentified Hollywood actor’s wife. The hacker has apparently has used similar tactics in the past to shield his or her identity.

What exactly is revealed in the confidential memos remains a mystery. The Smoking Gun did not divulge any of the information included in the correspondence, however, the site did provide a screengrab of one of the hacked emails:

Additionally, authorities don’t know where “Guccifer” is currently located. While several of the IP addresses associated with the hacker have reportedly been traced to the Russian Federation, it could be a dead end as hackers regularly hide their tracks using proxies, IP spoofing and various identity-concealing software.

The hacker “did show some familiarity with the Russian media in Saturday’s e-mail blast. While the majority of the journalists to whom he sent the Blumenthal memos are based in the U.S., ‘Guccifer’ also sent the documents (in a separate e-mail) to about two dozen reporters working for Russian outlets like Pravda, the Moscow Times, The St. Petersburg Times, and the RT news channel,” according to the Smoking Gun.

  SOYBOMB, in one sense it matters what the government can and will do. In another sense it does not, meaning that if the government does not do what it is suppose to do but does what it is not suppose to do, not only will it be found out, but those who have instigated the wrong will be caught and punished severely either by the arm of Americans rising, or by the Living God himself.

The Benghazi disaster is the perfect example of what this administration is all about. The whole cast of characters were involved in that American nightmare and we the people deserve the truth about what happened.

  Is there a real difference between revealing confidential govt. ‘employee’ communications and confidential / classified military ones? The answer is Yes – if people’s lives are put in danger. However…
  The core question is… Do you support one hacker and not the other – because of who was hacked and what was revealed? (And SO FAR in this Clinton case… What has been revealed has not been revealed. So the story is simply about the hack itself – not any possible information revealed – yet!)

  Sorry, no. Hackers are BAD. The ends never justify the means if the means destroy the very principles you are trying to defend. Hackers, malware, adware and other malicious computer garbage costs this country Billions of dollars a year. Nearly every product you purchase has computer security costs associated with it.
  
  Hacking and hacktivism are under punished and over romanticized. Even shows like NCIS, CSI and other law shows routinely glorify illegal hacking- frequently by those that should be following the law.
  
  Hacking organizations like Anonymous should be dealt with like any other racketeering and blackmail crime syndicate.
  
  Hackers need to be held financially and socially liable for the damage they do, even if they are doing it ‘for the good of all’. That is just vigilante mentality with a computer instead of a gun.
  
  If we are going to be ‘okay’ with hacking for a cause, then we actually need to declare some sort of revolution or revolt so that clear sides can be drawn and fought out, both in cyberspace and real world. If we aren’t ‘there’ yet, then it’s just illegal hacking and it needs to be dealt with.
  
  Those memos could just as easily have been about our troops and troop movements.

  Aren’t you suspicious that all these supposed hacks result in no information being released to the public and are happening right before CISPA is back up for vote? I mean if they hack a CFR politician’s E-mail, why would they release it to the CFR owned media, and politicians around the world by E-mail rather than throwing it up on the web where it would go viral? Why not send it to Assange? Why not send it to the partisan R’s who are supposedly looking to hang Clinton for Benghazi?   He had no skin in the game like the helo pilots or the ground pounders in the streets of Baghdad. I have seen all the worthless talk making excuses for people going out after curfew in a warzone with kids.
  
  I have seen all the whining about journalists. If a journalist was embedded with the marines & gets fragged by insurgents no problem, but if a journalist embedded with the insurgents gets fragged, Katy bar the door … Red Alert.
  
  Rewind the tape, play it again for the 5th time … of course that is a camera & not a gun.
  
  Have you ever been in a helo in a war zone? I remember when they wiped out the technicals that had been shooting down helos left right & center. It was a good day. Have you ever been painted by civilians? Does it matter if you are painted with a radar or with a porch light when $#it is coming down range? If you say so then you are lying.

  Walkabout, the “boots on the ground” have came out against the event as well. Would you like to critique them? Besides we all have skin in the game. Empire building has historically ended in collapse. Maybe you can tell me what we’re doing differently than all of those empires before us?   Were they covering the news from the other side or were they making a jihadi video or both?

  Walkabout, I have no problems with the initial attack. None whatsoever, other than we shouldn’t be there in the first place and people have the right to bear arms to defend off foreign invaders. It’s what I’d be doing. If you say you wouldn’t then you’re giant wussy. Embedded journalists know what they’re getting into. What I have a problem with is them doing the double tap on the old man picking up his fallen family members to bury them and blowing the **** out of children in the process. It’s clear he never picked up the weaponry and wasn’t necessary. ESPECIALLY SINCE BOOTS ON THE GROUND WERE CLOSING IN. It also wasn’t necessary to order the soldier helping the child still alive to abandon the child, when the helo obviously had everything more than under control. Nor was it necessary for the HMVdriver to drive over the dead body, while others were laughing about it over the radio.

It will make no difference to people who want her to be president. They blame Benghazi on the Bush Administration and that she was doing her best to straighten the problems. The liberals of this country will do everything possible to make her president. They want to go down in history that they elected the first black president and now the first woman president.
