University of Central Florida Shut Down After Man Commits Suicide in Dorm and Cops Find Explosives
ORLANDO, Fla. (TheBlaze/AP) — Authorities investigating an apparent suicide discovered weapons and explosive devices in a dorm on the University of Central Florida campus in Orlando early Monday, and hundreds of students were evacuated, though the school said there was no immediate threat.
University police were called to the dorm around 12:20 a.m. after a fire alarm went off, UCF spokesman Grant Heston said. While they were on their way to the scene, a 911 call came in about a man with a gun.
Arriving officers found a man dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a residence at the Tower 1 dorm.
Heston said the dorm has suites, with a main kitchen and living area, along with four bedrooms. The dead man was inside one of the rooms. Inside the room, police also found a so-called “assault” weapon (although it’s unclear exactly what type of weapon), a handgun and improvised explosive devices.
Heston said the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI are helping with the investigation. The sheriff’s bomb squad was examining the explosive devises Monday morning.
About 500 students were evacuated from the dorm and an adjacent parking garage was closed.
“We don’t believe there is any imminent threat to the campus,” Heston said.
The university canceled classes through noon Monday as a precaution.
Officials have not said whether the dead man was a university student.
A statement on the university’s website said the UCF Arena would open to accommodate displaced students. Counselors would be available to talk to students who need assistance.
A spokeswoman for State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan said he was called this morning by UCF President John Hitt and told about the situation unfolding on campus.
“As far as we know no other students are in danger,” Kim Wilmath said.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 12:03pmFar too many conclusions are being drawn from way too few facts. For instance, “assault weapon”, really? How convenient. “Improvised explosive devices”? Do you mean a box of shotgun shells and a box of matches? Once again there is all this panic mode evacuation nonsense. Someone running the show needs some new material! Remember, “It’s only a paper moon and it wouldn’t be make believe; if you believed in me”! LOL!

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 9:52amThat’s my alma mater! It must be one of the newer dorms, which are quite nice. I hope it doesn’t blow up. If they’re evacuating the whole dorm that’s going to be at least 300 students. Fortunately, if there is one thing UCF has is buildings. We joked back then that UCF stands for Under Construction Forever, so there’s plenty of real estate there.
He must have snuck in an “assault rifle” quite stealthily. Those dorms are well lit 24/7. I wonder what his major was and how the “IED” came to be.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 9:33amJonathon Seidl, thank for the use of “so called” assault weapon. My guess is, this is another lie, that there was no, so called assault weapon present, but the cops and media will lie like hell, and say there was, to further odumass’ and the UN’s agenda. And why no name released, there again, do they need to scrub this persons facebook page, so we wont know he’s a lunatic lefty, or maybe a jihadist? Jonathon, stay on top of this one please!

This could be anything from a rubber band sling shot to a Nerf gun these days.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 9:38amBIOHAZARD, Good morning. What really gets me is that a number of fellow students had to have seen what this guy was bringing into the building had to look suspicious. Another thing is how he interacted with his fellow students. It seems that the other 500 sheep in the tower continued to graze, smoke dope, and play video games.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 9:48amGood morning, RJ! Judging from the students currently attending U Can’t Finish, I’m not the least bit surprised no one noticed a thing. Now, if his actions had interfered somehow with their Call of Duty or Portal game time, well then there would have been a serious problem.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 9:26amAnother twisted evil person preparing to do even more evil. Yet, the left will blame nothing more than the gun’s existence.
On another note, earlier this morning I caught part of a story in the news about the discovery of a Kill List, along with other written details maintained by Adam Lanza for what appears to be more than a year. But again, the blame still falls on the existence of the gun(s) used.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 10:12am@Time_To_End, they still won’t do a d@mned thing about getting loonies off the street and into treatment. They’ll just keep their laser-like focus on labeling people (especially former military members) with mental disorders of every variety to keep them from obtaining guns under their idea of “reasonable” gun control laws. Never mind helping the mentally ill, just keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens everywhere to make a liberal feel good.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 10:34amTIME, BIO, I have the TV news on but muted with the radio on. I keep checking back and forth as well as other channels such as CNN and BSNBC. But, they seem to be taking care with the knowledge of the ABC jump the shark maneuver by ABC with James Holmes. What I really mean is that they are doing more research that will surely be shared with other networks for that consensus like outcome.

Don’t get me wrong, I do care about people and such but this reactionary media madness is pulling us down.

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 9:23amWell the improvised explosive devices couldn’t have been a threat because we all know violent crimes can only be committed with guns. Ban the guns and all violent crime will magically vanish.
Don’t believe me? Ask Dianne Feinstein.
